The flowering period is from February to April, the capsule is triangular and flattened, and the seeds are densely covered with dark brown soft hairs. It is mainly distributed in Tian'e County, Guangxi; it grows in mixed woods on calcareous soil in limestone mountains at an altitude of 2-4 meters.
Pale Golden Camellia: Evergreen shrub, 3 meters high; young branches are purple-red, glabrous. Young leaves are pale purple-red, old leaves are elliptical or oblong, with short sharp tips and broad cuneate or cuneate bases. Flowers are pale yellow, terminal or axillary, with a diameter of 1.5-2 cm; flowers have 8 petals, obovate, glabrous; ovary is nearly spherical, glabrous, with 3 styles, completely separated, glabrous. Flowering period is October-December, capsule is spherical, seeds are usually 10, brown. Mainly distributed in Longzhou County, Guangxi; grown in mixed woods on calcareous soil in limestone mountains at an altitude of 12-120 meters.
Multi-petal light golden camellia: evergreen shrub, 3 meters high. This variant is similar to the original variant of light golden camellia, the main difference is that the flower has more petals, up to 23-30 petals, oblong or strip-shaped, of which 9-10 petals are red, 14-20 petals are light yellow, the inner petals are longer, and the outer petals are shorter, with high ornamental value. The flowering period is from October to March of the following year. It is mainly distributed in Longzhou County, Guangxi; it grows in mixed woods on calcareous soil in limestone mountains at an altitude of 10-3 meters. This variant is a good parent for hybrid breeding, and can cultivate new varieties of double-petal camellia with various colors.
Camellia chrysantha: small evergreen tree, up to 5 meters tall; young branches are reddish brown and glabrous. Young leaves are purplish red, old leaves are elliptical or oblong, with a tail-shaped acuminate tip and a nearly round base. The flowers are light yellow, usually solitary, terminal or axillary, with a diameter of 3.5-5 cm; the flowers have 11-17 petals, up to 19 petals, the petals are extremely thin, without waxy luster; the ovary is nearly spherical, glabrous, usually 3-chambered, rarely 4-chambered, the styles are usually 3, rarely 4, completely separated, and glabrous. The flowering period is February-March, the capsule is flat-globose, glabrous, and there are 2-3 seeds in each chamber. It is mainly distributed in Fusui County, Guangxi; it grows in mixed woods on calcareous soil in limestone mountains at an altitude of 1-2 meters. This species is a good parent for hybrid breeding, and can cultivate new varieties of double-petaled yellow camellia.
Straight-veined Camellia chrysantha: evergreen shrub, 3 meters high. This variety is similar to the original variety of Camellia chrysantha. The main difference is that the style is longer, sometimes with 2, 2-2.5 cm long; the lateral veins are fewer, the angle is larger, and it is almost at right angles to the midrib, so it is called Straight-veined Camellia chrysantha. The flowering period is February-March. It is mainly distributed in Fusui County, Guangxi; it grows in mixed woods on calcareous soil in limestone mountains at an altitude of 2-3 meters.
Sichuan Camellia chrysantha: an evergreen shrub, 4 meters high; young branches are hairless. Young leaves are light red, and old leaves are oblong, with gradually pointed or pure pointed tips and broad cuneate bases. The flowers are yellow, 1-2 in axillary or ascending, with a flower diameter of 3-4 cm. The flowering period is September-October. It is mainly distributed in Huangjing Township, Gulin County, Sichuan; it grows in mixed woods on valley slopes at an altitude of 9 meters.
Camellia chrysantha: evergreen shrub to small tree, 2-3 meters high; young branches purple-brown, hairless. This species is similar to Camellia chrysantha, the main difference is that the petals are thinner; the outer filaments are bundled and fused at the base; the inner surface of the calyx has white soft hairs. Flowering period is October-December. The capsule is spherical, relatively large, with 10 chambers, each chamber has 12-3 seeds, the seeds are dark brown, densely covered with brown silky hairs and easy to distinguish. Mainly distributed in the river mouth of Yunnan; grown in mixed woods on calcareous soil in limestone mountains at an altitude of 1-4 meters.
Camellia liliiflora: an evergreen shrub, 2-3 meters high; young branches are glabrous. Young leaves are purple-red, old leaves are elliptical, with a caudate-acuminate tip and a broad cuneate base. The flowers are yellow and fragrant, 1-2 in terminal or axillary, with a diameter of 4-4.5 cm; the flowers have 7-8 petals; the lower half of the ovary is glabrous, with white soft hairs on the top; the top of the style is 3-lobed. The flowering period is from October to December. The capsule is oblate, and the seeds are covered with long soft hairs. It is mainly distributed in Ceheng County, Guizhou; it grows in the mixed woods of the sandstone valley at an altitude of 10 meters. This species is the parent of hybrid breeding, and can cultivate new varieties of fragrant yellow tea.
Bobai Golden Camellia: Evergreen shrub, 1.7-2 meters high; young branches are reddish brown and glabrous. Leaves are oblong, acuminate at the tip, and broadly cuneate at the base. The flowers are light yellow, 1-2 in axillary or terminal, 3-3.5 cm in diameter; the flowers have 7-8 petals, which are nearly round or ovate; the ovary is glabrous, the style tip is 3-lobed, the base is connate, and glabrous. Capsules are not seen. Flowering period is October-November. Mainly distributed in Huangling Town, Bobai County, Guangxi; grown in acidic soil and mixed woods at an altitude of 10-11 meters.
Camellia quinquefolia: evergreen shrub, young branches glabrous. Leaves oblong, with short acute tips and broad or nearly rounded bases. Capsules not seen. Mainly distributed in Huu Bon District, Cao Bang Province, northern Vietnam.
Guangxi Five-chambered Camellia chrysantha: evergreen shrub, 4 meters high; young branches are light red and glabrous. Young leaves are light purple-red, old leaves are elliptical, with a caudate-acuminate tip and a broad cuneate base. The flowers are golden yellow, solitary, axillary or terminal; the flowers have 12-14 petals, elliptical; the ovary is 5-chambered, glabrous; the styles are 5, occasionally 4, completely separated, and glabrous. The flowering period is February-March. The capsule is oblate, 2-3 mm in diameter. It is mainly distributed in Fusui County, Guangxi; it grows in limestone mountain mixed woods at an altitude of 3-4 meters. This variant is the only species of Camellia chrysantha species in my country with a 120-chambered ovary; it is rare and is an endangered precious plant with high ornamental value, and is also a good parent for hybrid breeding.
