Wilderness Redemption Tour

Chapter 34 Playing with Micah

After thinking all the way, Lin Yan still couldn't figure out the reason. He felt that Sadie was more enthusiastic towards him than others because of her favorability. He helped her get revenge, so isn't it normal for her favorability to be higher? Could it be that she has other feelings for him? It shouldn't be. She loves her husband so much, and her husband just died not long ago. Could it be that foreigners are so open and tolerant?

The more Lin Yan thought about it, the more outrageous his thoughts became. If Sadie could read my thoughts at this moment, I guess my fate would be worse than the murderer of her husband. Thinking of Sadie's eyes when she saw her enemy, Lin Yan couldn't help but shudder and forced himself to end this absurd association.

On the way back, because of the detour, waiting for the carriage to arrive, and the fighting, it was almost dusk when we returned to the camp.

Because Sadie came back early, Pearson prepared dinner earlier than usual. So when Lin Yan and the others returned to the camp, dinner was almost ready.

Marybeth, who was sitting at the camp table playing cards, saw Arthur coming back and shouted to him from a distance: "Arthur, there is a letter for you. I put it on your bedside for you."

"Okay, thanks." After saying that, Arthur slowly tied the reins to the hitching post.

Compared to Arthur's leisure, Micah, after returning to the camp, rushed to find Dutch, who was reading in the tent with Molly while listening to soothing music.

"Dutch, I have something to talk to you about." Micah rushed in and said to Dutch.

Dutch didn't care that Micah had intruded into his personal space. He closed the book and said to Micah with a smile, "Hey! Micah! I knew Arthur would be able to rescue you unharmed."

"Rescue? Do you want to bribe the sheriff to let me out and call for rescue?" Micah said indignantly.

"Bribe?" Dutch was stunned when he heard what Micah said. "You mean Arthur paid the sheriff to let you out?"

"Didn't you tell me to do this?" Micah asked uncertainly when he saw Dutch also had a confused look on his face.

"How could I possibly explain it in such detail? The specific execution methods of the mission are all formulated by the parties involved. You know that."

"Of course I know that, but the problem is that Arthur wants me to pay for it! Do you know how much it is? A full 450 US dollars! I know this may not be a big deal in your eyes, but since I joined, did we get any money in the two major operations, the Blackwater Town operation and the Cornwall bond robbery? No! Not a penny! Except for the money you hid, there are those bonds that cannot be taken out! Dutch, I am loyal to you, you can't treat me like this."

"Arthur, was this idea yours?" Dutch walked out of the tent and asked Arthur who was standing in the open space outside.

Arthur admitted frankly: "Yes, I just don't want to cause trouble anymore, especially when I'm with this troublemaker."

Dutch saw that Arthur admitted it so straightforwardly, and he didn't want to continue to dwell on this matter. "Okay, okay, as long as you rescue the people, I won't blame you for anything." Then he looked at Micah behind him and said, "Micah, just think of Arthur as joking with you, I'll pay for you."

When Micah saw that Dutch had taken all the money, he immediately smiled. "I told you, a wise leader like you, Dutch, wouldn't care about this little money. A leader should have a unique vision. We are all family, and selfless dedication to our family can highlight our unity." Micah's flattery made Dutch feel proud, and his previous unhappiness was instantly swept away.

Seeing that Dutch had no problem here, Micah walked over to Arthur. "Arthur, Dutch said that he paid for it, so the money in the bank carriage should also belong to me."

Arthur said simply, "No problem, I can give you a share, but there is a condition." After that, Arthur walked towards the donation box that Dutch had placed in the camp. "The camp is short of various supplies now. All the food in the camp is provided by me. And if you look at this account book, everyone has donated supplies or cash to the gang in the past few days, except you. After you get the money this time, don't you have to show some appreciation?"

Micah took the camp's donation book and flipped through it, and found that no one donated more than $10 each time. He closed the book and nodded. "Okay, as long as you give me the money I deserve this time, I will donate part of it to the camp."

Arthur immediately smiled as if his plan had been accomplished. "Deal!"

Then he took out a wad of cash from his pocket and handed it to Micah. "Here, this is your share. I have already divided it in advance."

Micah looked at the stack of bills in Arthur's hand, which was already clipped in his wallet, and suddenly realized, "So you had already thought of it. You deliberately provoked me to donate money to the camp."

Arthur snapped his fingers, pointed at Micah and said with a smile, "That's right, and you can't refuse this reason."

Micah reluctantly gave in. "Okay, you win."

Then, Micah counted the money in his hand, put some of it into his pocket, and took the rest to the donation box and loudly announced to everyone in the camp: "Ladies and gentlemen, look here! I have 25 dollars here, and now I'm going to put them in this donation box! Don't just stand there, come over and thank your Uncle Micah!"

Micah's shouting attracted the attention of everyone in the camp. Seeing everyone looking at him, Micah held up the money in his hand ostentatiously, shook it in the air, and then put it into the donation box.

After doing all this, he sat down on a wooden stake at the edge of the camp and began to fiddle with the dagger he had pulled from his waist.

After Micah left, Dutch also took out $450 from his savings and gave it to Arthur. "Arthur, if it were in the past, you would definitely make a scene in Strawberry Town and take Micah out. What happened to you this time?"

"Dutch, have you forgotten the original intention of our gang? We are different from those evil robbers. We only rob the rich, not the poor. Even if they are bodyguards hired by the rich, I can kill them without hesitation, but this does not mean that we are not measured. Micah was caught by the police, and I can't provoke the government openly. Those Pinkerton detectives have been chasing us endlessly. If I do this, I dare say they will find this place tomorrow or the day after tomorrow through the traces we left. Then we will have to embark on the road of escape again, and I don't think this is what you want to see."

Dutch took out a cigar from the cigar box in his suit pocket, cut off the head of the cigar with a cigar cutter, and lit the cigar with a match. After taking a deep breath, he looked at the woods in front of the camp and said, "Indeed, my mind has been in a mess since the accident in Blackwater Town. I didn't think so much for a while. Thanks to you and Hosea for coordinating the overall situation, otherwise I might have ruined this family."

Arthur also stared at the woods in the distance. "It's not as serious as you say. We just need to be careful in the future, get good news and plan strategies before doing anything like we did before. I think it will be no problem for us to stay in one place for a few months, but the premise is to keep Micah and Bill under control."

Lin Yan and Lenny did not participate in the conversation after they came back. Having rescued Micah and done a big job, Lenny was in a very good mood. Seeing that there was an empty seat at the card table where Marybeth was playing cards, he joined in excitedly.

Lin Yan got off the horse and chatted with Kieran, who was taking care of the horse, and then sat down beside his small bed to watch the farce in the camp. When Micah finished his performance, seeing that Pearson's dinner was not ready yet, he decided to check on Sadie first.

Sadie did not join in the entertainment activities with the others in the camp, nor did she sleep on her bed. After a quick guess, Lin Yan went straight to the place where he and Sadie first met.

As expected, Sadie was sitting there looking at the slightly red sky in the distance. Lin Yan walked over and gently sat next to her.

Sadie knew who was coming without even looking. She handed the gun she had been stroking in her hand to Lin Yan and said, "Your gun, I always forgot to give it to you. What happened in the camp just now? Why is it so noisy?" She asked when she heard the newcomer sit down.

Lin Yan took the pistol and put it into the holster on his waist, then chuckled, "Who else could it be but Micah." Then he said to Sadie excitedly, "Arthur lied to him on the way and said that he would pay for his rescue this time, and he would not get a share of the money from the robbery. Micah refused to do it, and after he came back he went to Dutch, and finally Dutch said that he would pay for it, and then Micah asked Arthur for money for his work. Arthur said it was okay to give it to you, but I have never seen you donate money to the camp, and you have to donate some after I give it to you, so Micah shouted loudly to let everyone in the camp know that he donated 25 yuan."

"Heh, Dutch and Arthur are probably the only ones in the entire gang who can control this clown."

"You're wrong. Although Micah has a foul mouth, he's not stupid at all. He only picks on people who look weaker than him. Although he's a good shooter, he has a weakness, which is that he's not very good at fighting. Arthur told me that when Micah first joined, he saw that Charles didn't talk much and often mocked him for his background. Then one day, Charles got angry and gave Micah a good lesson. After that, he never spoke rudely to Charles again."

"Charles? Is that the black Indian? I've been here for so long, but I've hardly ever talked to him." Sadie recalled and nodded thoughtfully.

When Sadie looked at Lin Yan and found that he was still wearing the windbreaker with holes in it, she frowned and asked, "Don't you know that your clothes are torn? Why are you still wearing them?"

"Oh, really? I didn't notice it." Lin Yan said, taking off his windbreaker. After seeing two inconspicuous holes on the back of the windbreaker, Lin Yan said nonchalantly, "It's not too serious, you can still wear it. I see that everyone's clothes are also very old, especially Pearson's sweater, which is like a patchwork on the body."

"The broken part has to be fixed. Let me help you fix it now while it's still light." Sadie said and was about to get up to get the tools.

"Uh...thank you then." Seeing that Sadie was so concerned about this matter, Lin Yan did not stop her.

Sadie found Tilly who was also doing needlework in the camp. After borrowing the needle and thread of the corresponding color of clothes from Tilly, she returned to Lin Yan.

Lin Yan obediently handed over his clothes. When he saw Sadie threading the needle skillfully, he couldn't help but secretly give her a thumbs up. It was amazing. She could fight on horseback and sew on foot. She was simply Mulan in the West.

But after seeing two crooked bulges appear on the back of the clothes after Sadie's operation, Lin Yan instantly changed his mind.

It turns out to be just a silver-plated spear head, which looks good but is useless...

After seeing the result of her work, Sadie seemed a little dissatisfied. "Hmm... it doesn't look very good. I'd better take it apart and fix it again."

When Lin Yan came back, he understood a lot from Arthur's words. He pretended to be surprised and looked at the fruits of Sadie's hard work for half a day, and praised: "Why do you want to take it apart again when it's so beautiful? Don't you think it looks like a work of art?"

"Artwork?" When Sadie saw Lin Yan's exaggerated expression and that inexplicable word, she wondered for a moment if Lin Yan had sustained a head injury in the explosion.

"Yes, works of art! Don't you think they look like two... um... two... caterpillars! Yes! Like two cute caterpillars!"

Sadie put her hand on Lin Yan's forehead and probed. "Are you sick?"

Lin Yan was speechless when he saw Sadie's actions. Did you think I was talking nonsense because I had a fever? I did this just to make you happy.

He tried to tilt his head back and move left and right to avoid Sadie's outstretched hand. "I'm serious, it's OK to fix it like this. It looks pretty solid, at least it won't break again."

Sadie saw that she couldn't persuade him, so she compromised and said, "Okay, that's it. But your clothes are so dirty, do you want to wash them again?"

Looking at the windbreaker covered with mud marks, Lin Yan scratched his head. "That's right, but I only have this one coat. If I wash it, I will have nothing to wear. I am not as cold-resistant as Bill. I only need to wear a shirt in this season."

Then he looked at Sadie, who was also wearing dirty clothes, and asked, "You've been back for so long, why don't you change your clothes?"

Sadie smiled miserably and said, "When Arthur and the others brought me to the gang, I was only wearing pajamas. Even the one I'm wearing now was kindly given to me by Malibeth and the other girls."

Seeing that Sadie didn't have any clothes to change, Lin Yan suggested, "So we all need to buy some clothes? Then let's go to Valentine's tomorrow and buy a few more. At least we should have one set to change into."

"Well, even if you don't mention it, I'm going to go there tomorrow. I'm also going to go to the gun store and buy a few more handy guns."

"Gun?" Lin Yan remembered that Sadie said she could use two guns, and combined with the fact that she had taken his guns before, he immediately understood her idea. "That's good, I'll go find Arthur after dinner to get our money back."
