Wilderness Redemption Tour

Chapter 35 Bounty Hunter

After dinner, Lin Yan found Arthur and asked for the money that belonged to him and Sadie. Arthur was not as talkative as usual this time. After giving the money to Lin Yan, he just chatted with him for a few words, then changed the subject and said, "Jamie, I have some private matters to attend to tomorrow, so I can't take you out."

Lin Yan said nonchalantly, "It's okay, you don't have to worry about me. Sadie and I are going to Valentine tomorrow to do some private business, and I was just about to tell you."

"Private matter?" Arthur raised his eyebrows and teased when he heard Lin Yan say this word: "Are you two progressing so fast?"

Lin Yan saw Arthur's expression and knew that he was guessing that again. He explained speechlessly: "We are just going to Valentine to buy some clothes and a few weapons. Don't get me wrong..."

"Oh, okay. There shouldn't be any problems along the way, but you still have to be careful." Arthur reminded perfunctorily.

Seeing that Arthur still didn't quite believe it, Lin Yan was too lazy to explain to him anymore and turned to find Sadie.

"Arthur said he has some personal matters tomorrow, so will it be just the two of us going tomorrow?" Sadie asked casually after taking the money Lin Yan gave her.

"Yeah, I think he seems absent-minded since he came back."

"Forget it, forget about him. I didn't want to go with him anyway. Let's go out for a walk tomorrow, and then stop by Valentine on the way back to the camp. Are you familiar with this area? Is there any fun place?"

Lin Yan shook his head. "I just got here too, I don't know what's around here." Suddenly his eyes lit up and he thought of an idea. "Hey, are you interested in being a bounty hunter? Why don't we arrest people according to the wanted order and split the money we earn between the two of us? How about that?"

"I didn't expect you to be adventurous. Now that you've said it, we can just go to the place where they were last seen. But aren't you familiar with this area? How do you know where the criminal described in the wanted poster was last seen?"

Lin Yan showed a mysterious and confident smile. "Don't worry about this, I have my own way."

"Well, it's settled then. I'll go with you tomorrow and try my luck. If the warrant says to capture him alive, you can take the rope. If it doesn't matter whether he's dead or alive, I suggest you take a blanket with you to avoid soiling the horse.

"Well... we two new guys haven't made any contribution to the gang yet, so it's not a good idea to ask for things rashly. Anyway, we're going to pass by Valentine tomorrow, so why not buy all the supplies in the town first, and then go look for them. You can also buy the gun you want first."

"no problem!"

After arranging tomorrow's affairs, Lin Yan and Sadie chatted for a while. Lin Yan was not very familiar with this era, so Sadie was the main talker, and he listened quietly and responded occasionally. It was almost time to go to bed, so Lin Yan and Sadie said good night to each other and returned to their respective beds.

At midnight, the system in Lin Yan's brain started up as usual, but like yesterday, no rewards appeared.

The next morning, with the first rays of morning light in the forest, Lin Yan also opened his eyes.

Arthur's bed was empty and Lin Yan didn't know when he left.

What was Arthur so anxious about? He left early. After sitting up and muttering something, Lin Yan put on his boots.

After washing his face with the public water in the camp, Lin Yan asked Pearson, who was busy making coffee, "Mr. Pearson, when did Arthur leave? Why didn't I hear anything?"

"Arthur? Isn't he in the camp? I haven't seen him since I got up."

He actually got up earlier than Pearson. What on earth was Arthur up to? After thinking for a long time, he still couldn't figure it out, so Lin Yan simply gave up thinking.

"Hey, you got up quite early. It seems that you are very excited." Sadie's voice came from the side.

"No way, I get up very early every day. It's rare for you to get up so early."

Sadie chuckled. "Haha, then just assume that I'm looking forward to it."

Since Pearson's breakfast was not ready yet, Sadie and Lin Yan wanted to wait by another campfire, after all, it was still a little cold in the morning. But when they saw Micah sitting in front of the campfire fiddling with his pistol, they decided to stay in front of the campfire for a while.

While returning along the same route, Lin Yan complained in his heart: I remember seeing Micah sitting there fiddling with his dagger before I went to bed, and when I woke up he was still sitting there, doesn't he need to sleep?

The two waited for Pearson to prepare breakfast, ate it hurriedly, and then set off.

After Lin Yan saw the wanted poster and the photos that Arthur gave him, the locations of these people were marked on the system map, so he was full of confidence in today's "One-Day Bounty Hunter" experience.

First, he and Sadie went to Valentine's stable to find the stable owner and bought a few bundles of ropes and two blankets, and then the two went to the gun shop in the town.

When the gun shop owner heard that Sadie wanted to buy a pistol, he began to introduce the various pistols in his store to her. "This is a double-action revolver... This is a Volcano pistol... This is a Scofield revolver... This is the latest semi-automatic pistol..."

Sadie listened to the gun shop owner's introduction for a long time, and finally chose the Schofield revolver that was exactly the same as the one in Lin Yan's hand.

"I want two Scofields, a holster, eight boxes of regular bullets, and two boxes of hollow point bullets. Also, do you accept guns? I want to sell the one I have."

When the gun shop owner heard that it was a big deal, he quickly responded, "Yes, and my offer is absolutely reasonable." After that, he took the revolver handed over by Sadie and began to appraise it.

"Well...it's just a very ordinary revolver. It looks to be only about 8% new. I can only offer you $2 at most." After the appraisal, the gun store owner gave his price.

Sadie nodded after hearing the offer. "It's the price you said."

Just as the owner of the gun shop was about to get a gun for Sadie, Lin Yan said casually, "Why don't you give me the same one too? And give me more bullets, like 16 boxes of regular bullets and 4 boxes of hollow bullets. Oh, and I need a holster, too."

The gun shop owner was so happy that he couldn't stop smiling. "No problem, I guarantee you'll be satisfied."

Sadie also looked at Lin Yan at this time. "Why? You also want to experience the joy of dual wielding weapons?"

"Let's not talk about dual wielding or not, having two guns will increase the chance of error. It would be bad if there are too many enemies and you don't have time to reload."

The gun shop owner put what the two men wanted on the counter. The two men checked their pistols and after confirming that there were no problems, they paid the money to the owner first, then put the gun cases on their belts and inserted the guns into them, then walked out of the gun shop with their bullets.

Lin Yan had a space bag, so it was no problem for him to hold these bullets. Sadie put three boxes of them on herself and put the rest in the saddle bag.

Riding back on the horse, Sadie said to Lin Yan: "Lead the way, where should we go?"

Lin Yan stopped her and said, "I don't know who is more anxious. We haven't solved the problem of food yet. We still have to go to the grocery store again."

After purchasing enough food at the grocery store, Sadie wanted to help Lin Yan with some of the burden, but she saw Lin Yan put all the food into his bag.

Sadie looked at Lin Yan's bag in surprise and said, "If I remember correctly, you put all the bullets in the gun bag at the gun store. Now I see you put all the things you bought in it. These things are not light in total, and the space they take up is much larger than your bag looks. There must be something strange in it."

Lin Yan still looked at her with a smile, and still said the same word: "secret".

Sadie also understood that Lin Yan had an extraordinary background. Although her curiosity was overflowing, she finally held back and didn't ask any more questions.

After purchasing the supplies, the two of them set off on their journey.

"Where are we going?" Sadie asked Lin Yan after they set off.

"Let's go catch a drug dealer first. The sheriff said someone saw him in the mountains north of Valentine, near the Dakota River."

"Capture him alive? You have to tell me in advance whether you want him dead or alive, otherwise I might accidentally kill our target."

"That's right! Both of Sheriff Malloy's bounties are for the dead."

Lin Yan thought that since Sadie already knew so many of his secrets, it wouldn't matter if she knew a few more. So he didn't take her around in circles near the target's temporary residence. Instead, he took Sadie directly to the hiding place of their target - a depression in the mountain wall next to the Dakota River.

This location is very hidden. If Lin Yan had not seen the smoke rising from the distant mountain walls, he would have had to wander around here for half a day even with a map and location.

Looking at the smoke from cooking in the distance, Lin Yan and Sadie followed a very hidden and rugged path in the mountains and successfully found their target: Benedict Albright.

The other party seemed to have gotten up late today and was now sitting by the campfire on the cliff making breakfast. When he heard the sound of horse hooves stepping on the mountain road from the crackling of burning branches, his first thought was not to run away, but to hope that if the other party really came to arrest him, it would be best to let him finish this breakfast before leaving. He didn't want to be caught by the police station on an empty stomach.

Lin Yan and Sadie dismounted their horses not far from the campfire, drew their guns, and came to the man who was sitting in front of the fire. He was wearing a blue suit, a high hat, and a pair of single-sided glasses.

"Are you Benedict Albright?" Lin Yan stepped forward and asked the other party's name first.

The other party showed a puzzled expression. "Who? I don't know who you are talking about. I'm just a businessman passing by. I think you have recognized the wrong person."

Sadie seemed to have heard something funny. She sneered and said, "A businessman passing by? Would a normal person camp in a place like this? I think you are the person he is talking about."

"Ma'am, it's very rude of you to say that. A well-educated lady would not speak to a gentleman in this tone. I suggest you learn..."

"Shut up, you old bastard! I'm not discussing manners with you! A fake drug dealer like you is not worthy of talking to me about manners." Sadie's temper flared up. She took two steps forward, raised her pistol and pointed it at the other's forehead.

The other party was frightened by Sadie's move and retreated repeatedly. "Hey! Ma'am! Please don't get excited. I... I'm just talking casually. I don't mean any harm, but I'm definitely not the person you're looking for."

Lin Yan ignored his explanation. He walked to the mountain wall, squatted down, checked the other party's luggage, and then took out a bottle of small medicine bottles from the pile of small medicine bottles in his package and asked: "You said you are not a drug dealer, so why do you have so many medicine bottles in your bag?"

"I...I..." The other party was speechless for a moment. Just when Sadie was about to lose her patience, he argued: "I am not a drug dealer, let alone a fake drug dealer. I am a healer. I can...I can communicate with the gods. At the same time, I am also a scientist. There must be some misunderstanding."

"Misunderstanding? The sheriff told me that your medicine has killed people, otherwise no one would offer a reward for your arrest. Mr. Albright, if you think there is a misunderstanding, go and tell the sheriff. We are just following the rules." After saying that, Lin Yan grabbed his hand and pressed him to the ground. With his 5 points of strength, it was easy for him to suppress a fake drug dealer. Then he freed one hand and put the pistol on the other's waist into his space bag.

"Sadie, get him a rope and tie him up."

"No! You can't do this! I've sold hundreds and thousands of bottles of my medicine, and I can guarantee that there is absolutely no problem. There must be some misunderstanding here, you can't do this to me!"

Seeing that the two had no intention of compromising, the man changed his tone and said in a negotiating tone: "Hey! Can we discuss this? You can arrest me, but can you let me eat my breakfast? I don't want to go on the road hungry."

"Let him eat?" Lin Yan, who was about to tie the other person's hands, asked Sadie.

Sadie tightened the ropes that bound the man's legs and said, "Ignore him. His unreasonable demands are a waste of our time."

"Okay." Lin Yan shrugged helplessly. "This is a lesson for you. Eat breakfast earlier next time. If it weren't for this bonfire, we wouldn't have found you so easily." After saying that, Lin Yan and Sadie tied each other's hands together.

Looking at the man who was still chattering at his feet, Lin Yan kicked him and warned him: "If you still talk so much on the way, we can only tie your mouth as well."

The man then shut his mouth.

After tying him up, Lin Yan searched the man's body, package and saddle bag, and then with a slight sense of guilt, he stuffed all the money, food and useful things he had found into his own space bag.

After working together to move the man onto the back of the horse, Sadie asked, "Should we go back now, or should we take him to find the next one?"

Lin Yan checked the map and found that the other target was not too far away. He patted the man on the back and said, "Maybe you have to ride on the back for a while, we still have another person to catch. But you can also think of the bright side, at least there is someone to keep you company, right?"
