Chapter 72 Thanks
Before this group of robbers who called themselves "Lemoyne Raiders" launched their attack, Lin Yan "unexpectedly" and "unethically" "took away" the one who was shouting among them.
This action angered the other robbers.
We are obviously the one with more people. It would be fine if you didn't surrender, but you actually dared to launch a counterattack first?
"Go ahead! Kill these sons of bitches!"
"Put some holes in their heads too!"
"The Lemoyne Raiders are invincible!"
As slogans were shouted, these people rushed forward with guns in hand, fearlessly.
Inversely proportional to the courage of these people is their poor shooting skills. Lin Yan estimated that these people's shooting skills were only slightly better than those of the O'Driscoll Gang, a gang that wanted everyone. To say that their shooting skills were just passing marksmanship was a compliment to them.
Three minutes later, the battle was over. None of the Fan Gang members, led by Arthur, were killed or injured, but this group of "Lemoyne Raiders" were all turned into corpses lying on the ground.
Seeing that no more enemies appeared, Arthur put away his gun, returned to the tree, cut the rope and let the man down.
"Thank you! Thank you!"
After cutting the cloth that was strangling the man's mouth, he thanked him repeatedly in his not-so-fluent English.
Arthur waved his hand in response to the man's thanks. "No need to thank me, thank them instead." He pointed at Lin Yan, Sadie, and Charles who were cleaning up the battlefield. "They were the ones who insisted on coming to save you."
After hearing this, the man extended his right hand towards Lin Yan with gratitude.
Lin Yan could still understand the international friendly gesture of handshake. So he also stretched out his right hand and shook the other person's hand tightly.
"Thank you! Thank you for coming to save me!" Holding Lin Yan's hand, he thanked Lin Yan and Sadie at the same time.
Arthur seemed unaccustomed to hearing words of thanks. He interrupted the man and said, "Okay, that's all for the thanks. Your family is still waiting for you."
"Jamie." He said to Lin Yan, "You and Mrs. Adler take this..."
As he said this, he looked at the German with a questioning look.
"Oh, my name is Andres, you can just call me Andre." The man replied politely.
Arthur nodded, "You send Andre back to his family."
"No problem." Lin Yan agreed immediately.
"Charles." After arranging the tasks for Lin Yan and Sadie, Arthur looked at Charles not far away.
"After we finish the search and dispose of these bodies, I will go back and lead everyone to move."
"Got it, go ahead." Charles replied.
After Arthur finished his instructions, he left in a hurry. Lin Yan's side was also easy to deal with. The "Lemoyne Raiders" just now left several horses. He let the German Andre pick one himself, and then he and Sadie sent him back to the camp at Dewberry Creek.
On the way, through the conversation, Lin Yan got to know Andre better. The German's family was in the gold mining business in the northern United States, but he himself did not like the icy and snowy climate there. So, he decided to take all his belongings with his wife and two children to find a warm and humid place to do some business. He chose Saint Denis and hired a guide to prevent getting lost.
On the way, the inexperienced man told the guide all his details. Unfortunately, he underestimated the greed of human nature. When the guide was about to reach the end of the journey, a group of robbers came to rob him. As a result, the robbers searched all his belongings but found nothing valuable. Feeling cheated, the robbers mercilessly killed the guide and kidnapped him, intending to contact his family to demand a ransom.
This was roughly what Andre meant. His English pronunciation and limited vocabulary made it difficult for Lin Yan to understand. Even with Sadie helping with translation, he still had to work hard to understand what the other person was saying.
Lin Yan did not ask him where he hid the valuables or how he avoided the search of that group of people. Curiosity is curiosity, but someone telling you something on their own initiative and you asking them are two different things.
According to the markings on the map, he brought Andre back to his family smoothly.
Many items in the camp had been loaded into the carriage with a high fence. The woman and her two children were sitting on the grass next to it to rest, and the old double-barreled shotgun was placed at her feet.
"¥\u0026*!" Seeing his wife and children again, Andre shouted something in German excitedly, then jumped off his horse and ran towards the three of them.
"Andres! Andres!" When the woman saw her husband return safely, she stood up excitedly and hugged him, unwilling to let go for a long time.
Even though Lin Yan didn't understand the conversation between the two, he could guess it was just some words of comfort. He and Sadie watched the reunited family quietly, tears in their eyes and smiles on their lips.
Quietly wiping away tears, Lin Yan rode forward and said to the family who were still hugging each other: "If there is nothing else, we will leave first."
Then, he kindly reminded them: "You should also set off early. Saint Denis is still some distance away from here. If you don't leave now, you won't be able to get there before dark."
"Oh! Yes, yes, it's time to set off." Andre gently pushed his wife and children away, looked up and said to Lin Yan: "Please wait a moment, give me a chance to thank you."
After saying this, he walked to his carriage and reached out to feel around under it. The next moment, he took out a large golden brick from under the carriage.
"Mr. Custer, Mrs. Adler." Andre, holding the gold brick, bowed slightly to Lin Yan and Sadie who were riding on horses and said, "Thank you very much for your help to me and my family. You are the friendliest Americans I have ever met, and your noble qualities will benefit me for the rest of my life."
Then, he walked to Lin Yan and handed the gold brick in his hand to him with both hands.
"Please accept this small token of my gratitude."
"This..." Looking at the gold brick handed over by the other party, Lin Yan said that he didn't want it because it was fake, but influenced by the unique implicit thinking of Chinese people, he was embarrassed to take it directly from the other party.
When Andre saw that Lin Yan didn't take it, he thought that he thought one piece was too little. Seeing this, he gritted his teeth and said, "My family only gave me two of these gold bricks. If you think one piece is too little, I'll give you the other one!"
Lin Yan didn't expect that his action would be misunderstood by the other party. When he saw the other party turning around to take the other piece, he waved his hand to stop him and said, "No, no, no, I didn't move just now because I felt that we shouldn't take your money. We saved you voluntarily and didn't expect you to repay us at all."
Andre turned around again, handed the gold brick to Lin Yan, and said stubbornly: "You rescued people voluntarily, and I paid money to thank you voluntarily. This is a small gift from our family, please accept it."
Seeing this, Lin Yan was no longer polite. He grabbed the gold brick and put it into the space bag in front of Andre.
