The Charles Becomes a Wizard
Chapter 17: School Preparation (Transition)
A gunshot shattered the quiet morning.
Vincent, riding on a tall horse, retracted his hunting rifle. The hunting dog under his feet had already rushed out impatiently and soon brought the prey back to him.
"Master, you have great marksmanship." Butler Tanaka, who was following behind him, clapped softly.
"I haven't exercised for a long time, but at least my marksmanship has improved." Vincent smiled softly. Today is his sons' eleventh birthday, and he has a rare free time to go out for horse racing. The prey he catches can be used as a dinner party snack, and the children should like it.
"master."
"what?"
"There seems to be something wrong with this prey." Butler Tanaka took the fatal bird from the hound's mouth and showed it to Vincent.
The smile on Vincent's face suddenly froze.
......
"So, what you mean is that you shot down the owl that delivered the acceptance letter to me?" Charles pinched his aching brow helplessly.
I got such a "big surprise" early in the morning. Can my birthday be good this year?
"Read the letter first." Feeling guilty, Vincent handed over the envelope covered in blood and dirt. Who knew he would be so mean!
Charles pinched the relatively clean corner of the envelope with two fingers and opened it. The faint stench of parchment spread in the air. Charles quickly read the letter and pushed his brother's head, which was pressing on his shoulder, away a little.
"It says that a professor will come to take me to buy the things I need before school starts." Charles looked up at Vincent, "Dad, do you want to go with us?"
Having been allied with the Malfoy family for such a long time, they have never been to the commercial streets belonging to the wizarding world for various reasons.
Vincent is actually a person who enjoys life very much. He always likes to get in touch with new things, so he readily agreed to Ciel's proposal. However, Rachel, as a mother, happened to have something to do that day, so it was finally decided that Vincent would take the two children to the legendary Diagon Alley to buy things that Ciel needed for school.
At the same time, Dumbledore, who was far away in Hogwarts, was also arranging for professors to lead the young wizards into the magical world.
"You'd better have something urgent!" The door of the headmaster's office was pushed open forcefully, and a tall figure wrapped in a complex smell of potions appeared at the door. Snape looked down at the old man sitting in front of the table.
"Severus, don't be so impatient. How about sitting down and having a cup of black tea with honey?" The old man with white hair and beard smiled cheerfully.
"There is a pot of potion in the basement that is about to be made. What's the matter?" Snape's mind was completely on the pot of potion at the moment, and his voice was particularly cold.
"Severus, I would like you to be the Guiding Professor this year."
"Have you finally gone mad?" Snape frowned. "What gave you the illusion that I would rather waste my time on those little trolls with slugs in their heads?"
"Oh, Severus, children are lovely creatures. You should get in touch with them more often. They will make you happy."
Snape grinned, "You mean I don't need to spend time brewing tooth decay potion for you in the future?"
"No, no, no, your tooth decay potion is still very useful," Dumbledore stiffened slightly. "But you should know that the child will start school this year."
Snape's expression suddenly turned cold.
"Don't worry, I won't waste too much of your time," Dumbledore handed over a piece of paper with a few names written on it, as if he hadn't noticed anything. "I hope you can get in touch with these students. You know, the temperament of your classmates can have a great influence on your children."
Charles' name was clearly listed on the note.
Facing the pair of blue eyes hidden behind the half-moon lenses, Snape was silent for a moment, snatched the note out, and the corners of his dark robe rolled up. The man with a depressed look on his face left the office without saying a word.
Dumbledore looked at the door and sighed, then stood up and touched the ugly phoenix lying in the cage. His old voice rang out in the messy office: "Fawkes, I'm hated again..."
The phoenix called "Fox" called softly, as if to comfort him, and raised its head with difficulty to rub his fingertips.
The owners of the names Dumbledore wrote on the note were all wealthy, and their parents had considerable influence in the Muggle world.
Snape knew very well why Dumbledore made such arrangements. He simply wanted these children to be prejudiced against Slytherin before they entered Hogwarts. He wanted to isolate Slytherin and pull those Muggle wizards into his own team. Pounds could be exchanged for gold Galleons. Controlling these little wizards could not only prevent the Slytherin nobles from getting support from the Muggle world, but if the little wizards were harmed by Slytherin, he might also get a considerable amount of money from the Muggle parents who paid to vent their anger on their children.
What could be done more quickly and easily than with a gloomy, sharp-tongued, unlikable dean?
As the head of Slytherin, Snape was quite protective of his own academy. If it was before, he certainly would not agree with Dumbledore's obvious suppression of Slytherin. Although Dumbledore did this kind of thing many times, this year was different. This year, Lily's son was going to enter school...
Thinking of the pair of bright green eyes in his memory, Snape clenched the note and exhaled deeply. Even if he was reluctant, he would definitely protect that damn Potter. After all, he was Lily's only blood.
It was very easy for Snape to be an unlikable professor. He could even easily scare a few children to tears by just playing the role in his true colors, until he appeared in front of Phantomhive's house again.
"Good morning, Mr. Snape." Vincent greeted gently. "My father and I are going to cause you trouble today."
Before Snape could even open his mouth, Charles and Eric surrounded him on both sides. Instead of the fear and disgust that one would have imagined, their faces were filled with curiosity and admiration.
The cheerful and polite tone made Snape, who rarely received kindness from others, feel uncomfortable. You know, even Draco, his godson, respected him more than loved him, and it was impossible for him to take the initiative to approach him, let alone show such a bright smile!
