Chapter 6: Hardship and Simplicity
In order to take care of her younger brother, Zhou Wanwan sells her homemade snacks and handicrafts on the busy streets every day. Her tricycle is her entire property and her source of livelihood. However, on a sunny morning, a group of urban management officers suddenly appeared in front of her.
The head of the urban management department had a gloomy face. He pointed at Zhou Wanwan's tricycle and said, "You are not allowed to set up a stall here. We are going to confiscate your tricycle!"
Zhou Wanwan's face turned pale. She stood up hurriedly and tried to explain her predicament: "Sir, I'm just a small vendor. This is my only source of livelihood. Can you give me a chance?"
The head of the city management department sneered: "You people who set up stalls randomly always occupy our city resources. We won't give you any chances!"
Zhou Wanwan bit her lip and couldn't help but shed tears. She watched helplessly as her tricycle was towed away by the urban management, her heart filled with despair and helplessness.
After the urban management towed away Zhou Wanwan's tricycle, Zhou Wanwan lost her only source of livelihood. She was angry and unwilling to give up, so she decided to find a solution.
"You are setting up a stall randomly, so stop causing trouble here!" the guard said aggressively.
Zhou Wanwan suppressed her inner anger and tried to explain calmly: "I just want to find an opportunity to report my predicament to my superiors, hoping to get some help."
The guard sneered and said, "Do you think the superiors will care about a small person like you? Stop daydreaming!"
Zhou Wanwan felt that her efforts seemed meaningless, but she was unwilling to give up easily. She went to the streets and talked with other vendors who encountered similar difficulties, hoping to get some inspiration from them.
An old street vendor said with a wry smile: "Do you think the urban management will care about us small vendors? They will only try their best to drive us away to make the city cleaner and tidier."
Zhou Wanwan felt that she was stuck in a dead end, and she knew that she needed more power to change the status quo. So she decided to find some like-minded people to fight for her rights together.
She was depressed for a while, but she did not give up. She knew that only by persisting could she achieve real change.
Zhou Wanwan has no education, but she has always dreamed of working for a big company. However, every time she went for an interview, the interviewer's ridicule or indifference made her feel depressed. In the end, she had no choice but to set up a street stall again to make a living.
On a sunny morning, Zhou Wanwan stood in the bustling crowd, busy placing goods for her stall. She carefully displayed various small commodities neatly, hoping to attract customers' attention. However, even if she tried hard to sell the goods, she could only get indifference and sneers from customers.
A young man walked up to Zhou Wanwan's stall and stopped. He looked at the merchandise on the stall and asked with a smile, "How much is this little pendant?"
Zhou Wanwan looked up and was stunned when she saw the young man. The young man in front of her was handsome and well-mannered. He was wearing a clean and tidy suit and holding a notebook in his hand. He seemed to be a white-collar worker.
"This little pendant only costs ten dollars." Zhou Wanwan came back to her senses and replied with a smile.
The young man nodded and took out ten yuan and handed it to Zhou Wanwan. After taking the money, Zhou Wanwan couldn't help but ask curiously: "Sir, what do you do? Why did you come to buy my products?"
The young man smiled and said, "I am an employee of a large company. I often pass by here. Today I saw you selling something, so I wanted to buy something to show my support."
Zhou Wanwan felt a mixed feeling when she heard this. She looked at the young man with envy, because he had the job and life she had always longed for.
"Sir, can you tell me what requirements are required to enter a large company?" Zhou Wanwan couldn't help but ask.
The young man looked at Zhou Wanwan, thought for a moment and said, "Large companies generally value academic qualifications and experience. If you don't have academic qualifications, you can consider taking training courses to acquire relevant skills and increase your competitiveness."
Zhou Wanwan was silent for a while. She understood that the young man's words made sense, but she did not have the financial ability to attend the training course. She could only lower her head silently and continue to display the goods.
As the days passed, Zhou Wanwan still insisted on her street stall business. She was often laughed at and treated coldly by passers-by, but she never gave up.......
In order to allow her brother to go to school, Zhou Wanwan decided to start working part-time. She often washed dishes in a nearby restaurant, working hard every day for a meager pay. However, she was not discouraged because she knew that only through her own efforts could she give her brother a better future.
One day, a customer came in to wash her hair. Zhou Wanwan saw this opportunity and took the initiative to say, "I can help you wash your hair." The customer hesitated for a moment, looked at Zhou Wanwan's firm eyes, and nodded. Zhou Wanwan quickly picked up the towel and shampoo, and focused on washing the customer's hair.
After washing her hair, the customer exclaimed: "Your technique is amazing! I have never enjoyed such a comfortable hair washing experience." Zhou Wanwan was secretly happy when she heard this compliment. She realized that she had a good talent in this area.
From then on, Zhou Wanwan began to accept more and more hair washing jobs. She gradually accumulated experience and her skills became more sophisticated. People liked her service and recommended new customers to her.
However, Zhou Wanwan was not satisfied with the status quo. She began to think about how to expand her business. One day, she heard a group of young people chatting in a barber shop. They mentioned an emerging industry, hair extensions. This industry not only has high income, but also can exercise their creativity and communication skills.
Zhou Wanwan worked day and night and earned a lot of money with great difficulty. She wanted to pay her brother's tuition, but unexpectedly, it was stolen by a thief. This sudden accident made Zhou Wanwan feel very sad and depressed.
One night, Zhou Wanwan was on her way home from get off work when she suddenly felt someone brush past her. She subconsciously touched her pocket, but found that her wallet was missing. She was startled and turned back suddenly, only to see a dark figure quickly disappearing into the night. Zhou Wanwan immediately realized that she had been robbed.
"Hey! Stop!" Zhou Wanwan shouted loudly, and she chased after him without hesitation. She ran desperately, but the thief was like a nimble cheetah, easily shaking off Zhou Wanwan's pursuit.
"Stop right there!" Zhou Wanwan shouted again, trying to keep her breathing steady and continued to chase the thief. She told herself in her heart that she couldn't let the thief escape, otherwise her hard work would be in vain.
Zhou Wanwan kept chasing, and she ran into a narrow alley. In the darkness, only a faint light illuminated the road ahead. Zhou Wanwan felt desperate, she stopped to catch her breath for a moment, but found that she had lost her way.
"Damn thief!" Zhou Wanwan cursed angrily, but she also knew that she had to calm down and find her way home. She looked around, trying to identify the surrounding environment, but this strange alley was too unfamiliar to her.
Just when Zhou Wanwan felt helpless, she heard a deep voice: "What did you lose?"
Zhou Wanwan turned around and saw a strange man standing behind her. He was tall and had a gentle smile on his face.
"It's you!" Zhou Wanwan said in surprise, "You are a thief!"
The man shook his head and smiled and said, "I'm not a thief. I just passed by here and heard you chasing a thief, so I came to see what happened."
Zhou Wanwan felt a little complicated. She didn't know what the real intention of this strange man was, but she also realized that she needed help now.
"My hard-earned money was stolen by a thief. I want to find him and get my money back!" Zhou Wanwan said, her tone full of anger and determination.
The man was silent for a moment, then looked at Zhou Wanwan and said, "Maybe I can help you, but you have to tell me why this money is so important to you?"
Zhou Wanwan's eyes became firm. She took a deep breath and then told the story of her hard work experience and her efforts to pay for her brother's tuition.
The man listened quietly, the smile on his face gradually disappeared, replaced by a serious and concerned expression..........
