Hogwarts in the shadows

Chapter 5 The Mystery of Hephaestus's Life

Hephis asked Professor McGonagall to take her seat and poured her a cup of tea, then Hephis sat opposite Professor McGonagall.

"Hello! Professor McGonagall, I still don't know a lot about magic schools. Can you answer some of my questions?"

Hephis asked the question that he had prepared for the conversation last night.

"Of course, Mr. Dame." Professor McGonagall said softly, "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a school for training young wizards. It teaches you relevant knowledge and helps you learn to use magic and control magic."

"You can just call me Hephis. You are a professor at Hogwarts, right? Although it may be a bit rude, could you please prove the authenticity of the magic? After all, this is very unfamiliar to me, and I hope you can understand this."

"Of course no problem, Hephis, I'm happy to help you solve your doubts." Professor McGonagall said with a smile.

Then she pulled out her wand from her bosom and waved it gently.

The teapot on the table instantly turned into a vivid white cat.

Hephis stared at the kitten in front of him with wide eyes.

It was still very novel for Hephes to see magic right in front of him for the first time.

"Is this the magic you are talking about? Can I learn it?" Hephis said happily.

"You can learn it too. In fact, that's why I invited you to join Hogwarts." Professor McGonagall said with a smile.

After saying that, she waved her wand again, and the cat transformed again, turning into a bird that flew happily around the house.

"Magic is so amazing!" Hephes couldn't help but exclaim.

"Yes, Hephis, magic is indeed magical." Professor McGonagall continued, "Now that there is no problem, we need to go to Diagon Alley to buy the things you need for school."

"Okay, Professor McGonagall, wait for me to get some pounds." After saying that, Hephis wanted to get up and get the money.

"Wait a moment, Hephis. Wizards do not use pounds, but Galleons. As a freshman, you can indeed exchange it at Gringotts, the wizard bank."

Professor McGonagall hesitated for a moment and continued, "But I don't think you need to. This involves your background, and I need to explain it to you."

"My background?" Hephes frowned slightly, looking a little puzzled.

"Hephis, there are some things I think you should know." Professor McGonagall said softly.

"Your mother is actually an Auror. In the wizarding world, Aurors are like police officers, responsible for maintaining order and fighting against evil. But in a confrontation with a dark wizard, she sacrificed herself to protect others."

At this point, Professor McGonagall's voice trembled slightly, revealing an indescribable sadness.

"So my mother is a wizard! But why? Why did you tell me now?" Hephes was silent for a moment, with an unknown anger rising in his heart.

"Child, because your father was still alive at the time, the Ministry of Magic tacitly agreed that he would raise you, so the decision of whether to tell you about your mother's affairs was up to your father." Professor McGonagall sighed softly.

"Who killed her? Or who murdered her?" Hephis said in a cold tone.

"A dark wizard, but that dark wizard has now been imprisoned in Azkaban, the wizard prison."

"That means he's not dead, right? Professor McGonagall, I need to know his name."

"You don't know much about the wizarding world. Believe me, kid, he will suffer more in Azkaban than death." Professor McGonagall looked at Hephes's grim face and finally uttered a name.

"Bellatrix Lestrange."

Hephis took a deep breath. He had some impression of the name, but he couldn't remember it specifically.

But he remembered the name, so it didn't matter if this person was not among the people who escaped from Azkaban.

If so, he wouldn't mind avenging this body's mother.

Hephis thought of something else: "Where is that uncle? He is the one who claimed to be my mother's brother. He appeared for a few days and then disappeared. Is he also a wizard? Where is he now? Is he dead too?"

"We currently know very little about your uncle. He has indeed disappeared for a long time, but the specific reasons and whereabouts cannot be verified. In the wizarding world, it is possible for an adult wizard to disappear for several years or even decades." Professor McGonagall shook her head slightly.

"Professor McGonagall, when did you know all this? And when did the Ministry of Magic learn of my uncle's disappearance? Do you know that his appearance made me lose my only chance to enter the orphanage, leaving a nine-year-old child to fend for himself in this world?"

Hephis clenched his fists, and the anger in his heart was ignited again.

He could not be angry with his mother, and even wanted to help her take revenge. After all, she was killed, not intentionally to get rid of Hephes.

But that damn uncle appeared and disappeared, forcing him to rely on rummaging through trash cans to survive as soon as he came across.

If he hadn't had the Shadow Fruit, he might have died long ago.

"I'm sorry, kid. You must have had a very difficult past two years." A trace of heartache flashed in Professor McGonagall's eyes.

"Child, although the Ministry of Magic governs the affairs of the wizarding world, every wizard has his or her own unique way of life, and the Ministry of Magic will not interfere or investigate excessively. As for me, I just learned that Hogwarts will only learn about the family background of the little wizard when sending the admission notice."

Hephis lowered his eyes, not knowing what he was thinking about.

"Hephis, these things are indeed a big shock to you. But please believe that the future will always be better. Hogwarts is your home now." Professor McGonagall said with concern.

"Thank you for your concern, Professor McGonagall. I lost my temper just now, but it has already happened. There is no point in blaming anyone. And now, I am doing well."

Hephis took a deep breath and adjusted his mentality.

Ah Q spirit is activated. If there hadn't been that year of suffering, maybe the Time Travel Association would not have given me the golden finger at all.

Losing something in the evening may lead to gaining something in the evening, who can understand the cause and effect?

"Hephis, you are such a strong boy. Shall we go to Diagon Alley, where is the wizarding world, and see some new and interesting things?"

Professor McGonagall was very happy to see that Hephesus had calmed down.

"Professor McGonagall, please wait a moment, I need to get some money." Hephis stood up directly.

"Child, your mother is actually..." Professor McGonagall was slightly stunned.

"Professor McGonagall, perhaps the mother I have never met left me a fortune. But please allow me to be willful for once. I don't want to use her money now." Hephis interrupted her with some annoyance.

"In the wizarding world, there is a bank called Gringotts. They provide currency exchange services, similar to Muggle banks. The exchange rate is five pounds to one Galleon, and the maximum amount you can exchange before school starts each year is 100 Galleons."

Professor McGonagall did not insist. She did not want to irritate the child any further. She thought of something and added, "Muggles are what wizards call ordinary people."

"So, does Gringotts also purchase items like gold and jewelry?" Hephis asked.

"I collected it. Do you want to..." Professor McGonagall asked in confusion.

"Although I don't know the purchasing power of 100 Galleons in the wizarding world, it doesn't sound like a lot. So I'd like to exchange for more Galleons. Please wait a moment."

After saying that, Hephis turned and walked towards a small cabinet.
