Lord Li Taojun had been looking forward to this conversation so much. He wanted to apologize for appearing in her life so late.

Li Taojungong wanted to form a father-daughter relationship with her. There were many things to do, but he didn't. He thought she would at least hug him or shed tears.

"Don't you have any sympathy for me?" Li Taojun asked loudly. He was hurt by her words.

"Don't be so complacent." Li Xueyue chuckled. "The only contribution you have made in my life is to bring me into this world. By the way, no, thank you."

Li Taojun was infuriated by her indifference. Was this how she was raised by two families? Someone told him that she was much more humble and friendly than this. What was wrong with her?

"I think this conversation is over." Li Xueyue smiled slightly, and her eyes softened with this tiny movement.

She was amused by his dumbfounded look. It was as if he thought she was incapable of being kind.

“I wish I could say I’m glad to see you, but it’s not the case.” Li Xueyue picked up the Hanfu and walked away without a nod or a bow. He didn’t deserve any kindness or sympathy from her.

A coward. That's what he is. Her biological father is a useless man and her biological mother is an absent parent.

Li Xueyue couldn't help wanting to laugh when she saw her situation. Her past would always leave scars in her heart. She couldn't find the energy in herself to forgive her biological parents. Nothing they did or said would change what happened to her.

The only things that can heal Xue Yue are time and acceptance.

"That's it? Are you going to throw me aside just because I'm of no use to you? Even if I can drag you into the mud, are you going to pretend you don't know me?

Li Xueyue sighed. Is this her stubbornness?

King Lee Shindang glared at her. "I may have lost my power due to the death of the previous emperor, but that should make me a more deadly enemy."

She tilted her head and raised her eyebrows. What was he talking about?

Something inside her broke. She lost it.

"I have no hostility towards you, how can I plan anything? And you have all hostility towards me?" Li Xueyue asked softly. Her eyes dropped to the ground, and her shoulders shrank slightly.

"Is it too late to apologize for my rudeness? Please don't ruin my reputation, father. I worked hard to build it." Li Xueyue pleaded.

Li Daojun blinked. "I can't see your pathetic behavior. Do you really think I'm that stupid?"

Li Xueyue felt that he was not as simple-minded as most men. After all, it took a lot of skill to train someone like Wen Jinkai. It must be even more difficult to gain power after losing everything.

“Father, what do you want me to say? Since you have kept my secret from me, do you really think I will continue to insult you and dig a deeper grave for myself?” she asked gloomily.

She looked up, a hint of fear in her eyes.

Li Taojun smiled bitterly. At times like this, her shyness was like her mother's. "Do you really think you can fool me like that shrew? I have learned from my mistakes."

Lord Li Daojun did not think that far. He thought she had inherited this trait from him.

This was the last straw that broke Xue Yue's back. The one that broke the camel's back.

How dare this useless man ask her to betray the only family member who had ever truly loved her.

Li Xueyue no longer worried about the consequences. She raised her head from the ground and prepared to end it all. Once and for all.

Li Xueyue forced herself to frown. "This isn't fair."

"This is the punishment for what you did to me just now." Li Daojun scolded. "If you were a little better and ran into my arms earlier, I wouldn't do this to you."

Li Xueyue discovered that this man only had muscles but no brains. How did he get his strength? Did he sweet-talk the previous emperor? Hmm…

"I need more time." Li Xueyue whispered. "In less than a week, I will leave for Han. It is impossible to obtain so much information in such a short time-"

"I don't care." Li Daojun snorted. "You made a mistake. Now, you will receive a severe lesson."

"So you really want to scold me like a father?" Li Xueyue thought.

Lord Li Taojun's eyes narrowed. "If I don't do this, who will? Apparently my brother did a terrible job disciplining you," he scolded.

He looked her up and down in disgust. "It seems that my resentment towards the Bai family for their abuse of you was in vain. You, the disobedient little girl, need to be taught a lesson."

"Isn't it a little too late?" Li Xueyue bit her tongue to prevent herself from blurting out the answer. She continued to bite her tongue with her teeth until she tasted blood and tears came to her eyes.

"You are so unfair." Li Xueyue whispered gloomily. Her eyes fell on the ground, and there were tears in her eyes.

"Okay." Li Xueyue gritted her teeth. "I'll do as you say, just this once."

Li Taojun clenched his fists. She was playing him. Did she really think he would fall for those fake tears? How many times had they been used against him by her mother? He had lost count.

"Well, go quickly, or they will get suspicious because you're not here," Li Taojun said. He drove the princess out like she was a dog that kept showing up at his door.

Li Xueyue turned her back to him. She took a step forward, but then stopped. "You know, Father. There is one thing you didn't ask me."

"Stop using that name to appease me. It doesn't do anything."

"You never asked me if I missed you." Li Xueyue said in a low voice.

She continued, "Have I ever looked out the window in my utter despair, wondering if my knight in shining armor was out there somewhere? Have I ever cried wanting to see my biological father? Have I ever prayed day and night to see you, even if only once?"

King Li Tao's throat went dry after hearing her words. These were the words he wanted to hear from her first. Because he had done the same thing before.

Li Taojun looked up at the endless night sky, wondering if she was okay, happy, or well fed. That was before he discovered the abuse at the Bai family.

"Because that's the truth." Li Xueyue said, raising her chin and looking at him. "I did it."

Li Daojun's heart suddenly sank. It was as if the rug had been pulled out from under him.

Li Taojungong squeezed his eyes shut, forcing himself not to believe her. And because he was so focused on blocking her, he didn't hear the soft thump of her shoes. He also didn't expect someone to bump into his body, or put their arms around him.
