Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 345 Superfluous move
Yuzhen swore that once this man died, he would tear down the palace. Despite the golden and red splendor, everything here seemed dull. It had created too many unforgettable nightmares.
Yu Zhen has a strong dislike for this place. He will personally destroy it bit by bit, and then rebuild it according to his own preferences.
Although the airy corridors provided ample sunlight, it was very dark here. An ominous atmosphere permeated the palace. Shadows lingered in the corners, waiting to grab a helpless soul.
"What is it?" Yu Zhen asked as she entered the emperor's bedroom.
From the corner of his eye, he saw the imperial physician take a step back and bow deeply. A solemn look appeared on everyone's face. You might think that the emperor was dead or something, but unfortunately, the man let out a wet cough.
"You rascal..." The emperor exhaled and threw the blood-stained handkerchief aside.
"Is this how you greet your sick father?" As he roared, a eunuch stepped forward with a clean silk handkerchief. Before long, the cloth was clenched and wrinkled.
Yu Zhen didn’t respond. He walked to the bedside, his nose twitching at the smell of burning incense. He hated the smell of eucalyptus. It reminded him of the medicine his father used to take.
The man was already dying. What was the point of prolonging his life? Death was already waiting for the emperor. There was no point in making the man wait.
"Bah, you disappoint me." Before his son could say anything, the emperor sneered. He wiped the blood from his lips.
"The wedding... in two days." He said with difficulty. He rubbed his chest and felt a sharp pain there.
“I expect there will be a successor soon,” he said.
Yu Zhen raised an eyebrow. "What makes this old man think he'll ever meet his grandson? Especially after how he treated his own son?
"That little princess..." He panted, patting his chest.
Upon hearing this, the eunuch rushed forward with a tray of freshly poured herbal tea. The emperor took it without hesitation and drank the medicine. The bitter taste that overwhelmed his senses made his gloom deepen.
"She is very weak," he whispered.
Yu Zhen narrowed his eyes. Li Xueyue’s body had nothing to do with the emperor. This ancient turtle should lie on the bed and die peacefully.
"Be careful, don't... hurt her." He coughed.
Well, this is unexpected. Yu Zhen thought that his father would be stupid enough to criticize his Xueyue in front of him. His cruel expression softened a bit.
"She looks very weak," the emperor added. He could no longer bear to sit up. With a wave of his hand, people came forward and laid his body on the bed.
"Is that all?" Yu Zhen asked in a monotonous tone.
He felt very strange to see his father like this. The once tall and mighty man couldn't even lie down in bed without help. The emperor's scent used to be spices and blood, but now his scent was spicy herbs and incense.
Yu Zhen didn’t think he’d live to see the day his father’s health deteriorated. But he was enjoying every moment of it. His father had never sympathized with him, so why should Yu Zhen?
Yu Zhen will never forget the day his father tried to kick Little Orange to death. The reason? Yu Zhen smiled around the animal. Or maybe it was the afternoon the emperor ordered Hu Dengxiao to be executed, seeing his son really enjoying life.
"The palace is too cruel." The emperor whispered.
He looked up at the ceiling, which was hung with muslin canopies. It was dark as midnight, and the curtains on the bed were slowly drawn, until finally he could no longer see his son's face.
The second prince appeared as a blurry silhouette, dark, hazy, and swaying—like the shadow of a candle flickering in the dead of night.
"Keep her safe," the emperor whispered. He began to grow drowsy. His eyelids felt heavy. The drug was finally taking effect.
Yu Zhen clenched his fingers into fists. He didn't need to hear such words from his father.
"If she doesn't..." He sighed. "Give you a son, don't put pressure on her."
The emperor felt so weak that he couldn't even lift an arm. Even so, the pain was relieved a little.
The emperor said: "A wife is to be cherished...a mistress is to be abused."
He could no longer open his eyes. Slowly, quietly, he fell asleep.
Yu Zhen left the room without saying anything. He slammed the door and stormed out. His mood had already soured twice this morning. And the day had just begun.
"I want him." Princess Yu Lingluo said as soon as she entered her brother's private study.
Yu Lingluo put her hands behind her back and walked into the room carefree. If her behavior was done by someone else, that person would not be able to take another step. How can you walk without a head?
But this is Yu Lingluo, Han Jian’s most beloved third princess.
"Who is it this time?" Yu Zhen said as he wrote without turning his head.
Yu Lingluo pouted after hearing what he said. Why make her look like she was gathering men for the harem? Well, that would definitely be interesting...
"Aren't you going to tell me off?"
"..."
"You know, it's shameless." Yu Lingluo said. She stopped in front of the huge parchment spread on the mat. As expected of his calligraphy, it was strong and powerful. His brushwork was fierce and unique.
“You just want attention,” Yu Zhen said.
Yu Lingluo snorted in anger at his words. She crossed her arms. "That's because you've been ignoring me lately."
"It's not my job to entertain you," Yu Zhen said in boredom. He stared at the huge calligraphy. Without warning, he threw the big brush to the ground, startling her.
"Brother Zhen——" Before she could finish her words, her eyes widened in horror.
Yu Zhen tore the letter in half. He crushed it between his fingers, crumbling the parchment in disgust. He wrote whatever came to his mind. This time, it was a quote about his father.
"But it's beautiful..." Yu Lingluo whispered. He turned the parchment over and threw it into the corner of the room. She didn't need to look at the calligraphy to know the general idea.
"Dad is sick, go see him."
Yu Lingluo pursed her lips. "I just saw him this morning. He asked me to go out for a walk in the sunshine because his room was too dull for me."
Yu Zhen did not respond to her words. He turned his back to her and walked to the desk.
"Can't you spare some time for me?" Yu Lingluo snorted. She was familiar with his cold reception and lack of response.
Her brother always looked cold and indifferent. She was used to it. But sometimes, she wished he could smile. Just a little. All she wanted was for him to be happy. Was it too much to ask?
