Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 368 Cold and Tender
Li Xueyue had never felt so free. The wind blew through her hair, and the heavy hair accessories were blown into the air. It wasn't long before the night breeze blew through her soft hair. She could feel her thunderous heartbeat pumping adrenaline into her system.
At this moment, nothing mattered anymore. No more etiquette. No more rules. No more worries. Just her and Black Moon, nothing else. And she was grateful for that.
Li Xueyue didn't care that they were running into the dark night. She didn't care that they would get lost, or that the moon was high in the sky and the stars were beginning to show. The moonlight guided her to where she wanted to go.
Black Moon ran and ran, the sound of his powerful hooves hitting the ground sounded like an earthquake. His body merged into the darkness. He rushed so fast that no one could see them.
"Let's take a break." Li Xueyue said as they stopped in front of a stream in a remote place.
Li Xueyue slid off the horse, her sweaty palms were cold. After her long sleeves were wet, she sighed irritably.
"I've always hated you." Li Xueyue angrily peeled off the multiple layers of Hanfu.
Li Xueyue threw it on the ground and glared at it with her head down. They reminded her of the unbearable palace. She didn’t want to go back there. She didn’t want to fight anymore. She didn’t want to be watched.
These were lies, and she knew it.
Li Xueyue was just tired of staying in this suffocating palace. She already missed the days of freedom. It had been a while since she was allowed to do whatever she wanted.
"No, don't eat that." Li Xueyue muttered when she saw Heiyue chewing on the daisy. He listened to her, sighed, and continued to drink water.
Li Xueyue remained bent in her position. She wore nothing but two layers of clothing: her underwear and the decorative layer of her hanfu—the expensively embroidered hanfu she dared not throw away.
It's too late now, isn't it?
Her hairpin was lost, somewhere in the grass. But no one dared to complain.
If only Li Xueyue knew the art she created. The scattered hairpins formed a glittering jewel road. As the moonlight danced on it, a glittering trail formed behind them.
"You might get food poisoning," Li Xueyue warned as Heiyue bit into another flower.
She plucked it from the ground and stared at the pale petals.
"A life of idleness is not suitable for me." Li Xueyue said to herself.
Hei Yue hummed in agreement. He nudged her with his head, almost curious about her emotions.
"I hate doing nothing but sitting and reading. I hate writing poetry. It's boring. I hate walking in the garden every few hours. If I have to sit in that room for one more minute, I kick my chair to the floor".
Hearing her words, Hei Yue tilted his head. Why couldn't she just...get up and leave? She could take him with her. He would take her anywhere she wanted to go. Just crawl back onto him.
"But I love him."
Li Xueyue glanced at the ground. She pulled out the weeds around a small flower bud.
Heiyue tilted his head and listened to her roar patiently.
"I loved his smile, his laugh, his soul. I loved everything about him, even his terrible temper."
Li Xueyue lay on her back and sighed. She looked up at the sky, and the stars twinkled like his eyes. The pebble-like light winked at her, just like his naughtiness.
Even in the wilderness, she thought of him. From the blackness of the night, to the color of his eyes, to the trembling of the grass, as soft as his touch.
"I love him very, very much," she whispered.
"He is the only reason why I tolerate all this." Li Xueyue said to Heiyue.
Heiyue touched the side of her cheek encouragingly, wanting to hear her gentle voice again.
Li Xueyue closed her eyes tightly. She put one arm on her forehead and listened to the rustling sound of nature. She felt a sudden light appear in the darkness.
When Li Xueyue opened her eyes, she could no longer breathe. She stared at the obsidian-like black beads. He stood beside her, holding a lantern in his hand. However, that was not the source of the light.
It was fireflies crawling out of the shadows. One by one, they lit up the dark grass. Sadly for them, their glow could never match the radiance of the jewels. Still, the scene was the most beautiful she had ever seen.
"you are here."
Li Xueyue knew that he would never let her go. She knew he would find her. He always did.
Yu Zhen didn’t speak. He sat down next to her. He said nothing. Although his erratic heart was trembling and the words stopped on the tip of his tongue, he didn’t make any sound.
He watched her reach out a hand. She wanted to touch the firefly, but her hand touched him instead.
Yu Zhen’s eyes softened a little. How could he not? He was still angry with her. She had escaped in the dead of night. It was dangerous.
If it weren't for the fallen trinket, he wouldn't have been able to find her. But he did. That simple fact was the only reason his anger was slowly fading.
That, and the fact that he had overheard her confession. She loved him. Li Xueyue loved him. This sentence repeated itself over and over in his mind.
He would never forget that voice. The words came out of her mouth without hesitation. She really loved him.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Li Xueyue said softly, referring to the fireflies that flitted across her fingertips but never stayed long enough.
Li Xueyue wanted to capture their light in her palm, but she knew it was impossible.
Li Xueyue wanted to put the fireflies in a bottle and keep them by her side forever, but that would mean imprisoning their beauty. She didn't want that.
“I should do the same to you,” Yu Zhen whispered as she held a lone firefly between her fingers. It glowed brighter than the others.
"But you won't."
Yu Zhen gave a slow and tired smile.
He reached out a hand and touched her cheek. It was cold to the touch. He took off his robe and laid it over her chest like a blanket.
"But I won't," he confirmed.
They said nothing more after that. They continued to stay on the grass, watching hundreds of fireflies flying. The breeze was gentle and cold. However, none of them complained.
A silence fell over them.
Li Xueyue and Yu Zhen continued to watch the fireflies. Even when the moon rose higher, revealing gray spots, they still sat. They reached a consensus without verbal communication.
