Hogwarts Lion Girl

Chapter 84 Intruder

After returning from Hogsmeade, Harry did not look happy.

He walked into the castle with heavy steps, and his face, which should have been talking happily about Honeydukes candies, was now full of gloom.

Because he just learned that Black was actually his godfather, and he had been his father's best friend, but it was this man who betrayed his father and their friendship! He sold out his parents to Voldemort, causing them to die tragically and turning himself into an orphan. For so many years, he had been living under someone else's roof and suffered so much injustice in the Dursleys' house. It was all Sirius Black's fault!

Harry felt a tightness in his chest and his mind was in a mess.

He returned to the Gryffindor common room with a gloomy face. The Fat Lady was frightened by his sinister eyes and tremblingly said the password for tonight, "Chocolate Frog". Harry walked straight to the armchair in the corner and sat down, burying himself in the soft cushions.

……

Ron had become nervous these days, like a frightened bird. Wherever he went, he held tightly to the broken cage where Scabbers slept, fearing that if he wasn't careful, the fat mouse would become Crookshanks' meal.

"Ron, relax," Ginny couldn't help but persuade him, "Crookshanks is just a cat, and Hermione promised us that it won't hurt Scabbers."

"You don't understand, Ginny," Ron lowered his voice, his eyes rolling around, as if Crookshanks would jump out from a corner at any time, "the way that cat looks at Scabbers... is like looking at a piece of delicious cheese!"

"Ron, you have a very vivid imagination," Hermione rolled her eyes, "Crookshanks is just very curious about his surroundings. He's a very clever cat."

Ron obviously didn't believe Hermione's words. He hugged Scabbers' cage tighter and muttered, "Hermione, Scabbers is my family. He has been in our family for many years."

Ron's worries were not unfounded. At dinner, Crookshanks actually jumped onto the Gryffindor table and walked straight towards Ron and his mouse cage.

"Look!" Ron exclaimed, stood up suddenly, and accidentally knocked over the pumpkin juice in front of him, and the golden liquid spilled all over the table.

Crookshanks paused, staring at Ron with his amber eyes, the tip of his tail twitching slightly, as if assessing the prey in front of him.

"Crookshanks, stop being naughty!" Hermione quickly picked up Crookshanks and scolded him in a low voice. Then she smiled apologetically at Ron and said, "Sorry, Ron. I promise he won't do this again."

Ron's face was pale. He hurriedly wiped the pumpkin juice on the table, but his eyes never left Crookshanks.

Over the next few days, Ron became increasingly wary of Crookshanks. He even began to carry a book about cat habits with him, trying to find evidence that Crookshanks wanted to eat Scabbers.

Hermione felt very helpless about this, and she explained to Ron more than once that Crookshanks was just an ordinary cat and that it had no ill will towards Scabbers. But Ron was like a possessed person and didn't listen to her explanation at all.

That night, Ron had a terrible nightmare. He dreamed that Crookshanks turned into a huge monster, opened his bloody mouth and swallowed poor Scabbers in one gulp. Ron woke up from the dream and found himself sweating and his heartbeat was accelerating.

He hurriedly opened Banban's cage and found it empty.

"Scabbers!" Ron screamed in horror, his voice echoing in the Gryffindor boys' dormitory.

Harry opened his eyes blearily. "What's wrong, Ron?"

"Scabbers is gone!" Ron's voice trembled, "It must be Crookshanks, I knew it would be bad for Scabbers!"

Harry suddenly woke up, jumped out of bed, and searched for Scabbers with Ron in the dormitory. However, they searched every corner and found no trace of the fat rat.

Ron collapsed on the ground in despair, holding his head in his hands. "What should I do, Harry? Scabbers is gone. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have brought it to Hogwarts..."

Harry patted Ron's shoulder and said soothingly, "Don't worry, Ron, we will find Scabbers."

At this moment, there was a commotion coming from the direction of the common room downstairs, accompanied by several screams and the noise of tables and chairs colliding, breaking the tranquility of Gryffindor Tower at night.

Harry and Ron looked at each other, feeling even more uneasy, and hurried downstairs to find the Gryffindor common room in chaos.

"Oh my God, what's going on?" Ron exclaimed.

The door of the lounge was violently broken, with wood chips and broken glass scattered all over the floor. The fire in the fireplace was burning fiercely, reflecting several panicked faces.

"Did someone break in?" Harry asked, looking around.

"I don't know," Neville said stutteringly, his face pale. "I... I was doing my homework just now, and suddenly I heard a loud noise, and then I saw..."

"See what?" Ron demanded.

"A huge black dog," Neville's voice trembled, "it jumped in there and then rushed out the door again."

"Black dog?" Harry and Ron looked at each other.

"Are you sure what you saw was a dog, Neville?" Hermione walked forward and asked in a worried tone, "Could it be some other animal?"

Neville shook his head, his eyes determined, "I am sure, Hermione, it is a huge black dog, its eyes ..."

"What's wrong with its eyes?" Harry asked nervously.

"Its eyes are red," Neville said in a voice so low it was barely audible, "like... like burning flames."

Hermione gasped and subconsciously tightened her grip on Harry's arm.

"This is terrible," Lavender Brown cried, "Could it be the fugitive Black..."

Her words were like a stone thrown into a calm lake, stirring up a thousand waves. The Gryffindor students immediately became excited and talked a lot.

"Quiet!" Percy Weasley shouted, trying to maintain order, "Everyone calm down and don't scare yourself!"

However, his words had no effect. Fear spread among the crowd like a plague, and everyone was anxious and whispering.

"Don't worry," Harry patted Ron's shoulder and forced himself to remain calm, "Let's see if there are any clues first."

They began to carefully check the lounge, hoping to find some clues, but they found nothing except the broken doors and windows and the debris scattered on the ground.
