The most powerful wizard in the magic world
Chapter 67 Career
Gerling stood aside, his face serious, his fingertips gently stroking the chip in his hand. Apart from the occasional sound of mechanical operation, there was almost no other sound in the room, and the atmosphere was so tense that it was almost suffocating.
"Rommath," Gerling said in a low and intimidating voice, "You know what, if you choose to cooperate, we can avoid some unnecessary trouble."
Romans raised his head slightly, his eyes flickering with disdain. "I'm just an ordinary technician, I don't have any special intelligence." He raised the corners of his mouth slightly, as if trying to hide his inner tension with this relaxed attitude.
“Ordinary technicians?” Garlin asked, his voice full of sarcasm. “The systems you develop are not ordinary, Romans. They are related to the lifeblood of the entire network security. We know your connection with those hackers.”
Romans' heart tightened and his brows knitted slightly. Although he tried to keep his mind calm, he knew that Gerling had already extracted some of his work data from the chip, and was obviously well prepared. So he decided to continue to conceal it, at least to prevent the other party from seeing through his true identity for the time being.
"I'm just responsible for technical maintenance," Romans said softly, his eyes wandering. "Those hacker matters have nothing to do with me." He deliberately looked out the window, as if looking for the exit where he was detained this time, but he only saw the gray sky and the occasional drone flying by.
Gerlin did not intend to let him go. He slowly walked in front of him, leaned down, and stared at his prey like a cheetah. "Do you think such a trick can be hidden from me? The chip in my hand can reveal everything, you know? We have intercepted many of your contacts with them. This information is enough to bring you to justice."
Romans' heartbeat quickened, and he began to feel a little uneasy. Although he did not intend to give out his accomplices, once the investigation was in-depth, his little secret would no longer be hidden. "I said, I don't have any necessary information," he said, his voice firmer, trying to strengthen his position.
At this time, Gerling stood up, turned around, and walked to a corner of the room. The chip in his hand was clenched tightly and flickered with a faint light. "You know you are playing a dangerous game, Romance. And the stakes in this game are not just your career."
"There's no point in threatening me," Romans tried to remain calm, but he was secretly thinking about how to escape this interrogation. "Anyone could be sacrificed here, not just me."
When Gerling heard this, he turned around and smiled, a smile that was creepy. "A smart person knows that threats are not made to pay a price, but to protect yourself. Once you embark on this path, the consequences will be unpredictable."
The air in the room seemed to freeze in an instant. Romans' voice trembled slightly as he said, "I am not afraid of any threats, Gerling. There are things in my heart that are more important than my personal safety."
"Oh?" Gerlin raised his eyebrows, obviously surprised by Romans' attitude. "It seems that you are still obsessed. But, I tell you, obsession is meaningless. The truth will expose you completely, and the final result will only be-"
“Stop talking.” Romance interrupted him, a surge of courage rising in his heart. “I would rather be imprisoned by you than betray my companions.”
"Companions?" Gellin sneered. "In this crazy world, what can so-called companions give you? Endless betrayal or inevitable encounters on the road?"
Romans was silent for a moment, and couldn't help asking, "Is there no real trust and cooperation in your eyes?"
Gerling smiled slightly, his eyes flashing with a sinister light. "Trust is a luxury. My partners are all chess players with their own chips. Anyone can turn against me in an instant, especially a technical officer like you." After saying that, he walked towards Romance again and whispered in his ear: "I have a way to make you find light in despair, but the price of this light is - you must tell me everything you know."
"I will not compromise," Romans said firmly, undaunted. "If you want the information you seek, then let me leave this place. Give me a safe exit."
"Safe exit?" Gerling raised his eyebrows, seeming to be interested in what Romance said. "What do you mean?"
"I can pass on more intelligence to you from the outside world, even secret inside information." Romans said calmly, trying to find a win-win solution that both parties could accept. He knew that once Gerling threw out the bait, he would have to be prepared for all the risks that would come with it.
"Interesting," Gellin paused and looked at Romans again, "but I can't guarantee that you will leave this room. Even this road has been blocked."
"If I can do that, who would be willing to let me go?" Romans looked straight into Gerling's eyes, secretly thinking about how to get rid of all this and continue to live the life he really wanted.
"Let me think about it," Gerling smiled coldly, seeming to be attracted by Romans's persistence. "But remember, you don't have much time."
A few minutes later, Gerling turned back and walked toward the door of the room. His meaning was obvious: he would give Romans some time to think, but this thinking was undoubtedly based on tremendous pressure and urgent choices.
After a moment of silence, Romans finally breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that the time for him to calm down and think was approaching. An important escape route flashed through his mind. Maybe this route was not perfect, but it was the only way to break free. He knew in his heart that any choice could change the trajectory of the future. Cooperation, compromise, change when things are difficult, change when things are difficult, and success will come.
"Gerlin," Rommath finally summoned up the courage to call him when he was about to choose his own fate. "No matter what, I will not give up. I will definitely find a way out for myself and my companions."
At this moment, his voice was as firm as a rock.
Gerling smiled softly, with a hint of admiration in his eyes. Perhaps he was surprised by Romans's resolute attitude. "I hope you can fulfill your promise when the time comes. This promise may affect our future together."
As these words echoed, Gerling grasped the door handle with his left hand and walked out of the room. The moment he closed the door, all that was left for Romans was the oppression and silence of the entire space.
