The most powerful wizard in the magic world
Chapter 87 The Shadow of the Mission
Gerlin was filled with mixed emotions—excitement and fear intertwined. The letter from Mankro College was still on the table, and his eyes wandered over the letter paper covered with ancient runes, and the shadow of the upcoming task gradually emerged in his mind.
"Gerlin, what are you doing here?" Alice pushed the door open quietly. Her voice was like the breeze at night, revealing a bit of concern.
"Alice." Gerlin raised his head and looked into her clear eyes, feeling a little warm. "I just received a message from the academy that I have to complete an important mission."
"What mission?" Alice's expression suddenly became serious, and the smile on her face disappeared. She walked to the table, leaned close to the letter, and her eyes were filled with anxiety.
"You want me to go to another world to find the 'Stone of Eternity'." Gerlin's voice sounded particularly low in this small room. "If I succeed, I can be promoted to a first-level wizard; if I fail..." He paused and pursed his lips. "I will die."
"It sounds dangerous." Alice frowned, her voice trembling slightly, "You know, that's a task that even many high-level wizards may not be able to complete!"
He always longed for power, the supreme power that would allow him to no longer fear anything and no longer live under the shadow of others. However, at this moment, he was only a second-level wizard, and the challenge before him was like a towering cliff, which made him look up and feel daunted.
"I know. But this is my chance," he said, his inner struggle finally turning into firm determination, "I have to go. What does your support mean to me, Alice?"
There was a gleam of stubbornness in Alice's eyes. "If you must go, I will go with you." Her tone was as firm as a stream in early spring, leaving no room for doubt.
"You will be in danger, Alice." Gerling said hurriedly, "The difficulty of this mission is beyond our current capabilities. I don't want you to be in danger."
"I'm not afraid." Alice clenched her fists, her eyes flashing. "No matter what, I won't let you face this unknown journey alone. We are partners, aren't we?"
Gerlin finally sighed, feeling grateful, but more than that, he felt a heavy sense of responsibility. He turned and walked towards a magic board on the wall, and what came into view were ancient patterns and glowing magic crystals.
"We need to be prepared." Gerlin grabbed a crystal and said seriously, "This mission is not just about retrieving the 'Eternal Stone'. We must be aware of how dangerous the alien world it is in is."
Alice came closer, gently stroking the crystals. "I've heard of this place. Once upon a time, a wizard lost his mind there, and could never return." She lowered her voice, as if to hide her inner fear.
"I'll be careful." Gerlin patted her shoulder, but his voice couldn't help but become lower. "If possible, I will find a shortcut and try to avoid direct confrontation with those dangerous creatures."
At this moment, there was a gust of wind outside the window, gently blowing the curtains, and Gerling's heart trembled. He turned around and walked to the window, looking out. The moonlight was like water, and it was peaceful. But this peace made his uneasiness even stronger.
"We'll set off early tomorrow morning." He finally decided, and made up his mind that since he had chosen this path, there was no turning back.
The morning sun shone through the curtains into the cabin. Alice was already waiting by the window, holding an exquisite staff in her hand, her face full of vitality. "Are you ready, Gerling?"
“I wonder what kind of adventures this journey will take us through,” Gelling responded, his eyes gleaming with anticipation and nervousness.
"No matter what, we will face it together!" Alice's voice was as firm as the first ray of sunshine in the morning, illuminating Gerlin's heart.
They set out on their journey, with Alice chanting the ancient spell in a low voice. Following her magic guidance, a ray of light rose from under their feet, guiding them to the secret passage of Mankro College. This secret passage led not only to an unknown adventure, but also to a test of their own strength.
Soon, they came to an open area, surrounded by clouds and mist, and could vaguely see several peaks rising into the clouds. Gerlin opened the magic scroll in his hand and checked the road to the other world. "We need to cross this mountain range to reach the portal."
"I feel an uneasy atmosphere over there." Alice frowned slightly. Although the morning light was bright, her vigilance did not diminish.
"Let's go, don't take it lightly." Gerlin warned, adjusted his robe, and walked slowly towards the mountains.
The sound of the mountain wind was like a whisper, and the grass and trees swayed gently in the breeze, as if telling countless unsolved secrets. The two walked while observing the surrounding environment, and the tension in their hearts increased day by day until they gradually reached the ridge.
Just as they were about to move forward, suddenly, a low roar came from a distance, and the roar shook the surroundings. Alice's face changed drastically, "What is that?"
Gerlin clenched the staff in his hand, "Not good! Quick, hide behind the nearby rocks!"
The two quickly found a hidden place, held their breath, and listened attentively. The sound was getting closer and closer, mixed with the sound of trees breaking, as if some huge creature was approaching them.
The lake was shimmering. Through the gaps in the leaves, Gerlin saw the sleek black creature. It was huge, like a monster with the characteristics of a dragon and a wolf, and it exuded a chilling pressure. Its huge claws left deep grooves on the ground, and it made a terrible sound when it stepped on the ground.
"This is... the dark beast." Gerlin's heart tightened. He had seen portraits of such creatures in the academy's library, but he didn't expect to actually encounter one in this mountain range.
"How can we escape it?" Alice asked in a low voice, with anxiety in her eyes.
"Keep calm. If we don't alarm it, we may be able to pass safely." Gerling's voice was low and firm, trying to reassure Alice. At the same time, he began to silently recite a defensive spell in his mind, preparing for the next action.
