Necromancer: A New Era
Chapter 37: Encounter on the Run
Seven days had passed since the earth-shattering final battle. Tang Yue was now alone, heading to Kasa City to find Chakar.
All I could see was desolation. In the thick smoke, I could vaguely see the outline of a ruined village. I didn't need to go deep to know that this place was already deserted. Those villagers who didn't escape had probably already become food for the orcs.
Tang Yue settled down in a relatively intact house, sat cross-legged, and fell into deep meditation. Although his body had been strengthened, he was exhausted from the days of running around and fighting. Just now, he had attacked in anger and annihilated a team of arrogant orc warriors.
While meditating, he suddenly heard a commotion in the distance. Tang Yue opened his eyes and saw a group of human soldiers running towards him in panic, followed by a large group of vicious orc warriors. They were soon caught up by the orcs and surrounded.
The leading orc rode a demon wolf and walked out of the herd with a grim smile on his face, mocking: "Where do you want to escape to, you lowly human?"
The trapped human warriors knew that there was no hope of escape, so they stood in a circle with their backs to each other, holding their weapons tightly, ready to fight to the death. Among the crowd, a woman holding a staff was particularly eye-catching - she was Ariel, a fourth-level wizard.
Ariel secretly went to the frontline, hoping to do her part for her father. However, when she arrived at the battlefield, she saw that the human army had been defeated, the sword master fell, and the pope fled with serious injuries. In desperation, she could only abandon the frontline and flee towards Sissiri, hoping that her father would be safe. On the way, she met the family's knights, who covered her evacuation, but she was caught up by the orcs. After several battles, she fought and fled, and was finally caught up.
"Capture them, and we'll have a feast tonight." The orc warriors brandished their giant axes and roared as they charged at the human warriors. Ariel cast magic and tried her best to shoot and finish them off.
Seeing the orc captain's murderous eyes driving the giant wolf towards Ariel, she knew she was doomed and closed her eyes in despair.
At this moment, a sharp bone spear broke through the air and pierced through the leaping orc captain and the magic wolf, hanging high on the roof in the distance.
Ariel opened her eyes in astonishment, and saw a warrior in silver armor standing proudly in the distance. The familiar figure made her feel an inexplicable sense of intimacy.
With the death of the orc captain, the rest of the orc warriors went crazy and attacked more fiercely. In just a few breaths, several warriors were chopped to the ground. However, Ariel didn't have time to think about it and cast magic to try to stabilize the situation.
It turned out that Tang Yue heard the noise while meditating. He walked out of the house to check the situation and saw the besieged human warriors. So he gathered his magic power without hesitation and prepared to help. The deadly bone spear was his - he must not let these brave human warriors sacrifice in vain!
Seeing the casualties among the human warriors, he chanted a spell without hesitation, and a huge hexagram magic circle was constructed. A large group of skeleton warriors crawled out, waving various weapons, and rushed towards the orc warriors.
The situation on the battle was reversed in an instant, until the last fleeing orc warrior was hit by a fireball and turned into a ball of flames with a wail, the warriors breathed a sigh of relief and began to check on their teammates' injuries.
Tang Yue, who was extremely exhausted, could hardly hold on and gasped for breath while leaning against the wall.
In the dim twilight, Ariel dragged her weak steps and slowly walked towards the figure. Her lips moved slightly, as if a name was about to come out, but she didn't say it in the end.
"Thank you for your help!" she said softly, her tone full of gratitude.
That figure, Tang Yue, had actually already noticed Ariel's approach. However, the shadow of the imperial bounty order still loomed over his head, and he could not recognize her. He could only deliberately change his voice and respond calmly: "It's nothing. As human beings, we should help each other. You should take care of your teammates and escape from here as soon as possible. The orc army is pouring in."
Ariel heard his voice and realized that this was not the Ming Yin she knew, so she stopped asking questions. She knew very well that this was not the time to reminisce about the past, and escaping from danger was the most urgent task.
"Aren't you going to come with us?" she asked with concern. "It might be dangerous if you stay here alone."
"No need, you guys go quickly. I'll rest for a while and see if I can hold off the pursuers." As soon as he finished speaking, he disappeared into the shadows of the ruins.
Ariel stared at the figure that gradually disappeared into the ruins, recalling the familiar spells just now, and a strange feeling welled up in her heart. She sighed softly, turned around and followed the warriors to continue fleeing westward.
In the distant resting place, Tang Yue suddenly felt a familiar spiritual wave approaching him. He was slightly stunned. Who could it be? Was it his former undead companion Aaron, or the little lion?
However, the distance was too far, and he could not be sure. At this moment, he had no time to care about anything else, and could only recover his strength as soon as possible. So, he sat cross-legged and fell into deep meditation.
After an unknown amount of time, Tang Yue woke up from his recovery. He was barely halfway recovered, which was enough. No orc troops had come during this period, so he didn't dare to stay for long. It would be better to leave as soon as possible. In his mental perception, that familiar feeling was getting closer and closer.
"Leave as soon as possible!"
Tang Yue's figure disappeared into the night.
One day later, in a small valley, Ariel, the only three people left, hid in a cave. Since they separated from Tang Yue yesterday, they encountered a wave of orcs. Although there were few in number, they were all exhausted. Finally, they escaped with most of their teammates dead. After several people were shot, only three of them were left.
"Your Highness, I'm afraid we can't escape. The orcs are too skilled in tracking us. Besides, we all have wounds on our bodies. The smell of blood is like a light in the dark."
"Your Highness, you can only escape if we act as bait and leave you alone."
"No, don't talk nonsense, we must have a chance to escape back!"
Although Ariel knew that what they said was right, she didn't want anyone else to die for her even if she died.
After exchanging glances, the two warriors came to her side, and without waiting for her to react, they knocked her out with a knife. They left all the food, cleaned up the bloody smell, covered the entrance of the cave, and disappeared in the moonlight. They wanted to use themselves as bait to lure away the orc troops.
One day later, a group of orc knights roared excitedly and chased the two human warriors running in front of them. They were not in a hurry to kill them. They just kept hanging behind them like playing with their prey, forcing the two warriors to keep running away.
The orc warrior seemed to have had enough fun and threw a spear. In an instant, one of the warriors was shot through the abdomen and nailed to the ground.
Another warrior watched his teammate being killed, gave up running, turned around, drew his sword, looked at the orcs chasing him, and said with determination in his eyes: "This place is very far away from Your Highness. In this case, let's fight them and kill one of them to get back our money!"
He was so angry that he rushed towards the orc army. After he chopped down two orcs, he was lifted up by a spear and stabbed into a sieve in the air. It was a tragic scene that people couldn't bear to watch. However, such things happened all the time in the Northwest Province.
