Necromancer: A New Era

Chapter 39 Mysterious Relics

Tang Yue walked alone in the devastated ruins of war, with scorched earth under his feet and the smell of gunpowder all around him. His eyes swept across the devastated battlefield, and an indescribable grief surged in his heart.

The once prosperous city has now become a ruin, with collapsed buildings and broken streets. On the bloodstained ground, there are no corpses, only some gnawed remains, which makes Tang Yue feel horrified. He knows that those corpses have been eaten by the beastmen. This cruel reality makes him hate the beastmen even more.

Tang Yue took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. He continued to walk forward. The ruins under his feet made a creaking sound, as if telling the cruelty of the war. He saw some broken weapons and armor, which were relics left by the once brave warriors. They sacrificed their lives to defend their homeland, but ended up like this.

Tang Yue's heart was filled with anger and helplessness. He vowed to avenge the dead and drive the beastmen out of this land. He clenched his fists, and a dark light circulated around him, reflecting his emotions. He continued to move forward in the ruins. He remembered that when he passed by, the city was full of vitality and people came and went. Now there are only scars left.

It has been a month, and he has lost count of how many times he has passed through such a scene. Tang Yue sighed slightly and continued on his way. The spiritual mark rushing towards him was getting closer and closer.

Suddenly, Tang Yue heard a faint cry for help. He stopped and listened carefully to the source of the sound. With his keen hearing, he determined that the sound came from a corner in the ruins. Tang Yue walked carefully to that corner and found an injured old man. The old man was seriously injured and dying. Tang Yue quickly cast flesh and blood magic and tried his best to save the old man's life.

The old man slowly opened his eyes and looked at Tang Yue, with gratitude in his eyes. "Young man...thank you for saving me..." the old man said weakly.

Through the conversation with the old man, Tang Yue learned some important information. It turned out that this beastman army was not just simply invading the city, they seemed to have a greater purpose behind it. The old man told Tang Yue that there was a mysterious relic hidden deep in the mountains near the city, which was said to contain endless treasures and powerful power. Perhaps the beastman wanted to find this relic and discover the secrets inside.

Tang Yue decided to go to the ruins to find out the purpose of the beastmen and the secrets within. He said goodbye to the old man and headed towards the ruins.

Tang Yue only had the approximate direction given by the old man. Fortunately, the beastman army did not erase any traces of their passing, so he followed them all the way to where the beastman camped.

At a glance, there were large areas of orc tents, teams of patrolling soldiers coming and going, and bonfires in the distance, with groups of orc warriors gathered together as if they were having a carnival.

Tang Yue observed carefully. The ruins were not far away and these orcs seemed to be waiting for something.

"Are you waiting for someone? It looks like you can't get in. You're trying to find a way."

When Tang Yue thought of this, he quietly disappeared into the dark jungle, waiting for the night to come, and then sneaked over to see the situation under the cover of darkness.

The night enveloped the hills, and the forest was immersed in silence. The moonlight was like water, sprinkling on the leaves, emitting dots of silver light, as if covering the forest with a layer of gauze. The breeze blew, and the leaves rustled softly.

Tang Yue took advantage of the night to arrive at the ruins. It was a huge mountain that seemed to have been split in half, several hundred meters high. It was inlaid with an ancient stone door covered with moss. There was a faint light flowing on the surface, and there seemed to be a barrier. Various strange runes were carved on the door, and there were some totem-like paintings in the middle.

The orcs did not set up defenses nearby, presumably because all threats had been eliminated.

Tang Yue looked at the huge stone door, reached out to touch it, and found nothing after searching carefully for a long time. So he did not waste any more time and quietly moved towards the main tent to gather some information.

Inside the orc tent, Kaufis sat on the couch with his eyes closed, listening to what the two humans who were kneeling below were saying. The two orc warriors put their weapons on their necks viciously and threatened them from time to time. The two humans, who were like mages or scholars, looked very weak, and told the story with tears and snot, begging for mercy from time to time.

Tang Yue came to one side and looked inside through a gap in the shadow.

"Sir, this is all we know. We have told you everything. No one can break the seal. It's not that we don't help."

The fox priest Kaufis opened his eyes, walked up to a man, whispered something in his ear, frightened him so much that he trembled, and then used his fingertips as a knife to pierce the man's temple. Before he could even scream, he dropped his head and died.

The human next to him shuddered with fear, and streams of yellow liquid overflowed from his feet. Kaufis put the flower he brought out with his fingers to the tip of his nose and sniffed it, then put it into his mouth and closed his eyes as if tasting it. An orc walked out carrying the corpse.

After a long moment, Kofis looked at the human. As if sensing Kofis' gaze, he knelt down and cried out, "My Lord, everything I say is true. This relic is a temple of a tribe that was wiped out more than a thousand years ago. The gate has been studied for hundreds of years but still cannot be opened. The remaining ancient books do not record how to open it."

Kofis narrowed his eyes and said, "My patience is very limited. Your companions didn't seize the opportunity, and now you don't have much chance left!"

"Sir, spare me! I really said everything."

"Then what is this?"

After that, Kofis took out a diary and said, "Do you think I don't understand your human writing?"

When the anthropologist saw the diary, his pupils shrank instantly, as if all the life was drained out of him. His face turned ashen and he stopped talking.

Kofis watched and waved his hand, and the orc warriors dragged him away. During the process, the anthropologist did not say a word, as if he was already dead.

Kaufis was really distressed now, but also a little happy. Judging from the performance of that human just now, at least this book he found was an important clue to opening the ruins.

The trouble is that his claim of understanding human language is a lie, he can only speak it but he doesn't know it.

In the silent night, Tang Yue stood quietly outside the tent, his eyes penetrating the canvas, silently watching everything that happened in the tent. His deep eyes flashed with a determined light, and he secretly said in his heart: "That book is very important, I must find a way to get it!"

Kofis's voice echoed in the night. He summoned the burly orc warriors and ordered them to capture a few literate humans at the front line. Then, he sat cross-legged and fell into meditation.

Tang Yue looked around and saw that everything was quiet, so he approached the priest quietly under the cover of shadows. A glimmer of light flashed in his hand, and a dagger appeared in his hand. He held it with his backhand, and reached out to the priest's mouth with his left hand, and quickly attacked with his right hand, stabbing the priest's heart.

However, at this critical moment, Kofis suddenly woke up from his meditation. But Tang Yue's action was too fast, and Kofis lost his life before he could scream, only making a weak whimper.

Tang Yue used necromancy to revive the dead priest and used flesh and blood magic to restore his appearance. He ordered the resurrected priest to continue sitting cross-legged in meditation, as if nothing had happened.

After finishing all this, Tang Yue picked up the important book and walked into the shadow of the corner to start studying. The book recorded a mysterious race - the Soul Clan, their temple, beliefs, and the secrets of genocide.

The Soul Clan believed in the God of Death, but they had not received a response from the God of Death for ten thousand years, so they gradually declined. They were exterminated a thousand years ago, and all traces of their existence have been erased, except for this priest temple, which humans have never been able to open. Although humans have studied it for hundreds of years, they have not found much information. They only know that when the soul power touches the gate, the magic circle will have a weak reaction.

Tang Yue took a deep breath and closed the diary. He murmured, "Soul power? Maybe I can give it a try."

He walked towards the gate of the ruins and summoned several skeleton warriors to guard the surroundings. When he mobilized his soul power to touch the stone gate, he suddenly felt as if he was sucked into a mysterious space.

There, he saw a group of vague humanoid creatures worshipping around a huge statue. The statue emitted a black light that merged into the bodies of these creatures. When the offering was absorbed by the statue, the scene flashed by.

Tang Yue returned to reality and found that the stone door was not opened. He recalled the scene just now. There was a black light lingering when the group of people were worshiping. He guessed that this might be related to the power they used. Could believing in the god of death be related to the dark element?

Thinking of this, Tang Yue's eyes lit up. He summoned the gifted magic book and mobilized the pure dark power to float towards the gate. As soon as he touched the gate, the stone gate that had been silent for a thousand years began to move. A dark hole with a faint glow slowly grew larger, and the dark aura around it spread. It did not stop changing until the hole formed a door shape. But after a while, it began to slowly shrink again.

Tang Yue studied it for a while, and seeing that the stone door began to shrink, he no longer hesitated, stepped into it, and disappeared into the darkness.
