Mysteries: Arcana Wars

Chapter 41 Escape (Part )

David Aksas ran as fast as he could in the pouring rain.

He didn't know how long he had been running. His weak legs were like two bundles of straw soaked by the rain, which could break at any time. But he still squeezed out the last bit of spark and ran forward.

The sound of the alarm was looming behind David, haunting him. The sound of footsteps and gunshots surrounded his ears, making the raindrops on his face seem so sharp.

Damn it, Leonard Mitchell! For the sake of our friendship, why can't you just give us a way out?

...Yes, that's right! It was that reporter. She must have told Sivella about me!

If that red-haired reporter hadn't been nosy, how could Mitchell, that mad dog, have caught up with us so quickly? !

The enemy is numerous and we are few, and David is sliding towards exhaustion.

But David absolutely could not stop running because his wife Olga Aksas in his arms was sliding towards death.

Olga collapsed in David's strong arms, like a rag doll shaking in the rain. Her body was covered with red scars, some of which had cracked, but under the festering skin was not yellow-white flesh, but a strange red color, emitting a little red glow.

This strange red glow has covered more than half of Olga's skin and is still expanding. The woman herself has long been unconscious due to the erosion of these strange sores.

"...David...diary..."

"Forget about your diary, Olga! Hang in there, just a little longer!"

But the terrible thing was that Olga was melting. The merciless rain was like a knife or an arrow, scraping Olga's fragile skin, wrapping the epidermal tissue that had eroded into pus all the way down. The wound that was emitting a red glow was also leaking a sticky liquid that was also emitting a red glow, flowing down with the rain.

David had known Olga since she was very young. He was familiar with the red spots on Olga's body, which were complications of Olga's congenital immunodeficiency disease. However, David had never expected that Olga's condition would suddenly deteriorate rapidly within a month. The red spots festered at a speed visible to the naked eye, becoming strange sores that shone with a bright red glow. Olga's vitality also disappeared from her body along with the strange thick water flowing out.

"Believe me, believe me! I can definitely save you! I have done so much for you, this time I..."

Snapped!

David's legs went weak and he fell forward fiercely into the flooded street. He threw Olga far away and she fell heavily to the ground, splashing a large pool of disgusting red liquid on the asphalt road, adding a strange red glow to the black road surface.

Above our heads, bright headlights illuminate an exquisite billboard. A well-dressed doctor holds an expensive instrument and smiles lovingly at a couple walking down the street.

"Backlund Peaceful Starlight Hospital provides you with the world's most advanced medical technology and health care services from the Ishdar Group."

David struggled to pick up his wife and continued his escape. The tall building with bright lights was his salvation, the Quiet Starlight Hospital.

...I have collected one million pounds! I have money! If I can send Olga there, she will be saved!

"David Axus! Stop!"

...Leonard is catching up!

David gritted his teeth, pulled his wife out of the water, and continued on his way.

The tracking skills he had developed as a police officer had now become his greatest asset in evading capture.

Thanks to the anti-reconnaissance ability he had developed through his daily diligence, the sound of gunfire and sirens faded away from him, but David's ears were still very noisy, with the sound of thunder, rain, traffic, and high and low voices whispering in his ears.

"...you want to escape...you want to get more money..."

"…With money, you can have everything you want…"

"...they chase you, they trample on you, they won't let you go because you took their money..."

"...You can't save your Olga because you have no money..."

“…money…money…”

“Ahhhhh!! Stop saying that!!”

David banged his head against a street lamp pole, and again, and again, until his bloody forehead pressed against the pole and he slowly slid down, leaving a trail of blood on the metal pole, and finally he collapsed to the ground with two people.

"I have money now, I will save Olga, I have money now, I can save Olga..."

Amidst his intermittent soliloquy, David's heaving chest finally calmed down.

A miracle will happen to Olga and me, and the goddess of night will bless us.

David's sanity slowly returned amid the pain brought by the metal and heavy rain. He stood up, changed the position of Olga and carried her on his back, and took off his coat to secure Olga.

"Goddess, please bless me and Olga..."

After dotting four stars on his chest, David picked up a small piece of broken tile from the curb and smashed the street camera with it.

"Fuck you!"

To the followers of the God of Steam and Machinery, cameras and surveillance cameras are the eyes of God watching the world equally. But David believes in the Goddess of Night, and to him, these are just things that get in the way.

Following a few explosions, David saw a quaint light box on the spire of a church not far away.

The frontier Quiet Starlight Hospital is far away, but the old Earth Church Hospital is close.

David hid in the bus stop, catching his breath, staring at the red cross light for a long time, and wiped the water off his face vigorously.

The screen on the platform was playing advertisements for modern cutting-edge medical services. As long as you have money, they will help you overcome any disease and even come to your home by helicopter.

Precision instruments, bright operating tables, powerful drugs...

This is the miracle of humanity itself.

Like most people in Backlund, David placed all his hopes on the ever-advancing medical technology amidst the overwhelming advertisements and astonishing achievements. For those old hospitals with church backgrounds, thousands of years of survival experience have become a sign of ignorance and backwardness.

But now David, on the run, is unsure whether he can really reach the hospital that performs human miracles in this rainstorm.

Close pursuit, overdrawn physical strength, exhausted spirit...

"Honey...it hurts..."

And Olga's groaning in pain.

David took a deep breath and rushed into the storm towards the Earth Church Hospital.

Although he doubted whether this old building had enough cutting-edge technology, Olga needed emergency treatment now, even if it could be delayed for a while.

Wait until the storm is over and Olga wakes up before transferring her to another hospital for treatment.

The chaotic whispers in my ears became louder and louder, and the lights of the hospital became clearer and clearer in the rain.

"Someone come! Help!"
