Chapter 160 Handing Over the Crown
Come here.
This irresistible and irrefutable sentence kept jumping in Xia's mind. The crown continued to give her a burning sensation, which made Xia regain some consciousness. She sighed slightly and resignedly said the password that Professor Dumbledore had given her before. She hoped that the professor's preferences would not change, she secretly prayed in her heart.
The gargoyles jumped aside after hearing her command, and Xia took heavy steps up the stairs. If Professor Dumbledore wasn't in the office, she could... Xia had been avoiding the fact that she had to face from the beginning. She wasn't sure if Professor Dumbledore would have any suspicions. He might not ask any further questions, but Xia couldn't help but explain herself.
When she saw Professor Dumbledore showing a rare look of surprise behind his desk, Xia's last thought of escaping was killed. Xia walked into the office and stopped a few steps away from the door. Her left hand tightly grasped the crown, and her right hand touched her wand in her sleeve, which gave her some silent support.
"Oh, Miss Hopps, good morning." Dumbledore returned to his usual self. He looked at Xia with a smile: "Would you like some breakfast? I can ask the elves to bring an extra portion. Oh, my old bones can't stand running around in the castle."
"Uh, I guess that's not necessary, Professor." Xia's breathing was still a little unstable, and she answered while panting slightly.
Dumbledore did not force her. He nodded slightly and asked Xia to sit on the soft sofa in front of him. In front of the sofa was a small coffee table with a plate on it, which seemed to be what Professor Dumbledore intended as a dessert after dinner.
Xia sat on the sofa, lowering her head and tugging at the corner of her school robes nervously. Dumbledore waited patiently. After a while, Xia raised her head and whispered, "I found the founder's relic - the Ravenclaw crown."
Dumbledore's blue eyes looked at Xia carefully through the lenses, as if trying to discern something. He saw beads of sweat on the little witch's forehead and smiled, but his tone still couldn't hide his surprise: "It's a good discovery!"
He saw what the little witch was holding as soon as she entered the room. He vaguely recognized it as a crown from its appearance, but he did not expect it to be the founder's relic.
Dumbledore walked up to Xia and waited patiently for her next words. Then he heard the little witch's voice trembling with a slight cry, as if she had finally let out the bad emotions she had been holding back for a long time when she saw a familiar elder. "I don't think this is a normal crown." She held up the rusty crown and handed it to Dumbledore so that he could see it clearly. "I decided something was wrong when I took it. It kept burning my hands. It was very uncomfortable and hot. It felt very bad."
Xia thought uncertainly that using three "very" in a row should make Professor Dumbledore take it seriously or become suspicious, right?
"Can you let me see it, child?" Dumbledore did seem to have a special interest in the crown.
"Of course!" Xia almost jumped up. In her panic, she almost touched Professor Dumbledore's dessert, which was an extra sin.
After receiving the crown, Dumbledore observed it carefully. He also touched it, but he did not feel anything unusual as Xia said. Dumbledore put all his thoughts into his mind. He looked at his pocket watch, then looked at Xia who had been staring at the dessert since he handed over the crown. He said casually: "Oh, I think the elves are happy to let you taste their craftsmanship. Ah, I think I said this before. Forgive me for forgetting things sometimes when I am old."
Xia glanced at Professor Dumbledore calmly, but she didn't expect to meet his gaze, so she quickly shifted her gaze and then her eyes fell on the plate of freshly baked cookies that were still steaming and whose sweet aroma lingered in the air.
Xia swallowed her saliva carefully, but this action was completely seen by Dumbledore. He looked at his greedy junior as if he was his own, but his words were very different from his behavior: "Oh!" He exclaimed, "I think Miss Hopps is going to Potions class. It seems that I can only treat you to a taste next time."
Xia raised her head and slightly widened her eyes. She did not miss the cunning look behind Professor Dumbledore's lens. She was sure that this was his bad taste! Look at a little girl drooling over cookies but showing a disappointed expression after not being able to eat them!
Xia snorted twice, grabbed a cookie, took a bite, then met Dumbledore's eyes and said, "I'm sorry, Professor. I don't think you would mind a student who is hungry and about to be late."
Dumbledore laughed this time. He wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and said generously, "Of course not, but remember to save one for me. Poppy will definitely be happy to see me eat less sweets, provided that the little witch who eats for me does not have cavities."
Xia's face turned slightly red, but she was sure: "Oh! I don't have cavities! You should pay more attention to your dental health, professor."
"It is one of the few hobbies that old people enjoy," said Dumbledore.
Xia smiled. She glanced at her pocket watch and saw that the time was almost time for class. She screamed and said to Dumbledore, "Sorry, Professor, I think I have to leave." Her eyes inevitably fell on the crown in Dumbledore's hand. As she was about to leave, she was again unsure whether this was a good idea. What if the professor wanted to wear the crown to gain more wisdom? Although half of his current wisdom was more than enough to give her, Xia still couldn't help but worry.
She warned worriedly: "Professor, I think this must be an evil dark magic item. Maybe it is in the hands of Ms. Ravenclaw, but it has been so long. If it is infected with dark magic, you won't wear it, right?"
Dumbledore said with a smile that he no longer needed more wisdom, otherwise his brain would complain. Xia was skeptical, thinking that the crown was not as fatally tempting to Professor Dumbledore as the Resurrection Stone, so there should be no big problem.
She said again with concern: "I think you need to check with a few other professors, but they seem to have a lot of classes to teach, and they also have to deal with the trouble we caused. If it doesn't work, I'll do it. Can I come to the office after class? I'm really worried."
Dumbledore was amused by her words, but he agreed with Xia's suggestion, "That would be great."
In the end, Xia left the principal's office, looking back every few steps.
