Master Craftsman of the Pokemon World
#11 - Resurrection grass and rolling beans
After finishing the cleanup of the workshop, Komorebi set off with Doublade for the distant village.
When they arrived at the village, the villagers were working in the fields.
A river flowed from the ancient mountains, passing through the village, and streams formed by melting snow also flowed nearby, joining the river that sprung from the foot of the mountains.
The climate of the Shin'ou Ruins was somewhat cold, and only in summer was it time for planting. In the world of Pokémon, crops grew very quickly, and in fertile soil, they would be harvested in basically less than a month, which defied common sense.
However, Berries grew even faster; in game time, they would basically bear fruit after 48 hours.
Komorebi saw that many Diglett had appeared in the fields.
Diglett, the Mole Pokémon.
Its appearance was that of an oval-shaped brown head with a red nose, its body hidden in the earth. The ground it dug would bulge, the soil would be properly turned, and its droppings would fertilize the soil, making it most suitable for cultivation.
They made strange sounds as they tilled the fields, causing the ground to quickly rise into layers of mounds, and the villagers followed them to sow seeds.
Komorebi quickly found the apothecary, and the medicine field was cultivated by an old, bald man named Kuru, a classic apothecary figure.
After Komorebi arrived, the old apothecary squinted and carefully examined Komorebi for a while.
"I never thought anyone would come to live here. I heard that someone had moved into that abandoned workshop. So it's you."
"I didn't see you when you came to the village to say hello last time. I heard you came from Shin'ou. Are you here to investigate the ruins?"
"That sword..." The old man saw Doublade, and Doublade greeted him with its ribbon:
"Yo!"
"That's a Pokémon I've never seen before. How wonderful! It looks like a weapon with a life of its own." The old man was quite interested in Doublade and observed it carefully for a long time until Komorebi explained his purpose. Then the old man retracted his gaze and revealed a gentle smile:
"Hoo hoo hoo, so you want to purchase medicinal herb seeds and vegetable seeds? No problem, come and take a look."
"Also, although it's a bit too far from here, if you want to buy some strange goods, go to the distant Shin'ou Ruins."
"In the small house near the shrine, there is a yellow-haired, blue-jacketed traveling merchant who always carries a large backpack. He seems quite young and has been staying there since last year. He seems to be acting as a guide to the ruins for the old man in the mountains, or perhaps he is an explorer."
A traveling merchant? A wild material merchant!
Komorebi was a little happy. After all, it was very rare to see a merchant selling goods in this remote mountain area. The appearance of a material merchant in the wild meant that the other party must have excellent rare materials in hand.
After receiving useful information from the old apothecary, Komorebi quickly became familiar with the old man.
The Shin'ou region was inhabited not only by the descendants of the Shin'ou people but also by the descendants of the ancient Jouto people. This was an unsolved mystery in past historical legends. Why did the Shin'ou people go south across the sea, and why did the Jouto people go north into the deep mountains? Even the old man couldn't say, after all, the legends had been fragmented for too long.
The old man wrapped up various medicinal herbs and their seeds for Komorebi. Some were commonly seen medicines, and some were herbs that Komorebi had never seen before.
"This is Heal Grass. Although it looks like a leek, it works very well for preparing medicines. It used to be an herb brought from the Shin'ou region. Perhaps the environment of Shin'ou is very similar to here, so it grows everywhere here very quickly."
"This is Energy Bloom, also known as Morning Dew Bud. It is an indispensable medicinal material for making traditional Chinese medicine."
"This is Bug-Repelling Grass. It's actually just a kind of wild grass with medicinal effects. It tastes very bitter and is a raw material for traditional Chinese medicine. After drying it, grind it into powder and take it with water."
"And this..." The old apothecary opened a medicine drawer and took out a bright green, curled herb.
"This is Revival Herb. Although it is very bitter and spicy, it is very powerful as a medicine. Even if the injury is near death, taking it will quickly restore vitality. If you cultivate it in the ground, its roots will grow very large. This is the Vitality Root."
"Revival Herb is a very useful medicinal material. Make good use of it."
Komorebi looked at these herbs. In addition to those herbs he had seen in the game, there were some that had not appeared in the game, similar to normal medicinal materials from the original world. Their effects, in addition to the common recovery of life, also included calming the nerves, clearing heat and detoxifying, and nourishing and strengthening the body.
Old Apothecary: "Medicines are indispensable. These herbs grow very quickly. After planting, water them well, and they will germinate and gradually grow within a few days, and there will be a harvest within a month."
Listening to this, Komorebi could only once again sigh in his heart at how unscientific the plant growth in the Pokémon world was, but the benefits of this growth rate were also obvious.
"I saw some Diglett in the village. Are they the villagers' Pokémon?"
"No," Old Kuru shook his head. "The Diglett and us are just in a symbiotic relationship. They help us cultivate the land, and we plant the crops they like to eat for them and distribute these crops to them as a reward."
Diglett would gnaw on the roots of crops, trees, or some vegetables. To prevent this, farmers would plant crops or trees that Diglett liked to eat in exchange for them helping to cultivate the land. Many Diglett farms in many places did this.
Komorebi nodded, thinking to himself.
Although Diglett could fertilize the land through cultivation, what was interesting was that Diglett itself could not learn the move Dig. It had to evolve into Dugtrio to learn it. However, that was just gameplay.
Generally speaking, the move Dig could be regarded as turning ordinary cultivation into a change-type skill. After all, this move was actually implemented in the sixth generation.
Ordinary cultivation only required a Ground-type Pokémon. Turning over the hard soil was the best thing for Ground-type Pokémon to do. Even traditionally, using Tauros to plow wasn't impossible.
This matter was also recorded in the Jubilife Village farm in the Hisui era.
After all, there were too few masters of the move Dig, but there were plenty of Ground-type Pokémon, even Groudon could do it.
"Thank you for the herbs. I will plant them well."
Thoughts gradually began to surge in Komorebi's mind. Those pieces of information appeared again. This time, they were a bit more concentrated, but the focus was still on rare materials.
[Rare Medicinal Material: Revival Herb.]
[Description: A very bitter herb. It can restore all HP to one Pokémon that is on the verge of fainting.]
[Acquisition Craft Quantity: 1]
[The latest novel is first published on 6_9_shu_ba_._com!]
[Unique Traditional Chinese Medicine Production Craft (C): The recovery effect of the traditional Chinese medicine you produce will be doubled, but it will become slightly more bitter. However, if it is given to a Pokémon that likes bitter tastes, it will not only not reduce its intimacy but will instead increase its intimacy.]
[Through craftsmanship, you can obtain potion-type items "Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Good Traditional Chinese Medicine."]
"Here are some seeds of crops. I'll share some with you too." The old apothecary took out some more seeds.
With the help of Diglett, the apothecary not only grew herbs but also grew normal crops.
"Traveling outside, you definitely can't eat fresh vegetables, right? Don't worry about the time. The soil here is very fertile. Now that summer is coming, vegetables and crops will germinate and grow quickly after sowing. There are quite a few wastelands near the abandoned workshop, right? You can make use of them."
The old apothecary said, "And you should know that medicine and food have the same origin. Common vegetables can sometimes have medicinal effects. Some vegetables are food when you are hungry and medicine when you are sick."
"I can also lend you the Diglett, but you have to wait a few days. Come and find me after the cultivation here is over. During this time, you can clean up the wasteland near the workshop first."
"Can I borrow the Diglett?" Komorebi was a little surprised, after all, Old Kuru had just said that those Diglett were not the village's Pokémon.
"Yes, as long as you feed those kids what they like to eat, some vegetables and tree roots."
Old Kuru smiled and stroked his beard: "Diglett are very easy to talk to. Although they will steal vegetables at first, as long as you give them the food they like, they will actively help with cultivation."
"I will prepare those foods. It won't take much effort. If those kids go over, they can help you reclaim those wastelands in one day. I'm just afraid you won't clean up fast enough."
"If you feel a little embarrassed, then next time when you are looking for materials in the wild, if you find any rare medicinal materials, just bring some to me."
"By the way, if you find a 'Sitrus Berry,' please be sure to bring it to me. This berry grows in the forest, and the growth cycle is very long. It is an excellent berry for making medicines, but there are very few ripe fruits on a tree. Pokémon also like them very much, and they will be picked off immediately when they are ripe, so they are not commonly seen."
Komorebi only felt that this was great and thanked him repeatedly. After all, with the help of Diglett, the soil would become more fertile, and the herbs would grow faster and better. Most importantly, it would save a lot of effort and time.
And this time, he bought all the herbs and vegetables at once.
Cauliflower, turnip, garlic, mung beans, wheat, white radish, cucumber, leek.
His vegetable stock was not much, and it was not realistic to forage in the wild every day. Although there were many berries in the forest, it would not be good if he encountered wild Pokémon with bad tempers and competed with him for them.
After receiving those few packs of seeds, thoughts surged again, gathering into information:
[Uncommon Crop Seed: Rolling Bean.]
[Description: Solid and plump large beans. It is a favorite food of Bird Pokémon and Fish Pokémon and can attract them to gather at the place where it is thrown.]
[Acquire Relevant Knowledge: 1.]
[Planter: Good at planting various herbs and crops, shortening their growth cycle and making them grow more vigorously, which can allow Grass-type Pokémon to grow faster.]
Oh, Rolling Bean from the Hisui era? Does this kind of bean still exist now?
A piece of knowledge, a craft. This trip to the village was really worth it.
"By the way, I also want to buy some scraps of cloth in the village..."
