Chapter 27 Invitation
"What's going on, Jacqueline." When Hermione finally found Jacqueline by the lake, she was sitting with her legs curled up by the lake.A huge clam lay in the shallows, opening and closing, with a pearl about to form inside. Her fingers brushed across the shells of the clams unconsciously, staring blankly at the surface of the lake.
"Go away," Jacqueline yelled, "leave me alone."
"Please, Jacqueline," Hermione said softly.
"Go away." Jacqueline was still pouting, "Go and stay with your 'savior'."
"Jacqueline," Hermione said, walking to Jacqueline's side and sitting down, "we're friends, aren't we?"
"I'm not your friend," Jacqueline muttered, turning around, "I'm just a student from the nasty Slytherin house that only produces bad guys!"
"Harry didn't mean it, Jacqueline." Hermione paused. "It's just, Slytherin... But, you're not like them, Jacqueline. You're not a real Slytherin."
And this seemed to irritate Jacqueline even more, because she stood up suddenly, folded her chest and said loudly: "I'm a real Slytherin! Hermione Granger! I'm a Slytherin, and my mother is a Slytherin!" Slytherin, my grandfather was a Slytherin. Merlin, all the Grahams are from Slytherin!"
"Jacqueline." Hermione stood up awkwardly, "I, I didn't mean that."
"No matter what you want to express." Jacqueline turned around, "Leave me alone, I just want to be quiet."
"You just lost your temper, Jacqueline. You pointed your wand at Harry, and you pushed Professor McGonagall away."
"Is there any wizarding law or Muggle law that says I can't be angry."
"I was just worried about you, Jacqueline." Hermione sighed, "If you don't want to talk about it..."
"He was wrong." Jacqueline said softly.
"Who's wrong?" Hermione asked.
"Harry." Jacqueline paused, "No, as long as you are a Slytherin, you will be safe. Nor, as long as you are a Slytherin, you must be a Death Eater."
"Death Eaters?" Hermione asked back.
"Followers of You-Know-Who, who call themselves Death Eaters."
"Sorry," Hermione apologized softly, "I didn't know."
"Because, you are the same as Harry," Jacqueline smiled, "you all come from Muggle families. So, unlike us, you grew up listening to stories of mysterious people. Or maybe, it's just me. "
"Jacqueline..." Hermione stepped forward to comfort her, but Jacqueline turned back to look at the lake in front of her.
"I'm afraid of You-Know-Who, I'm afraid of him, I'm afraid of him from the bottom of my heart. Because, he killed 37 people from Graham's family, and many people in the village, just when I was baptized."
"Jacqueline, me, me and Harry, we really..." Hermione suddenly felt very sorry.
"One of the three unforgivable curses, the Imperius Curse. He used the Imperius Curse on my father, and he made my father kill all my relatives, including my brother who was only three years old. I survived and returned There is no scar, and I didn't become a 'savior', not because of anything else, but because the mysterious man didn't bother to do it himself. Every year, my mother and I would go to worship them, and my grandpa would tell what happened at the beginning, over and over again, Over and over. So, Hermione," Jacqueline turned, her face wet, "I'm afraid of him, Hermione, you can laugh at my cowardice. I'm not as brave as you Gryffindors. Even Hearing his name, I..." Jacqueline closed her eyes, heaved a sigh of relief, and opened her eyes, "But I will defeat him, and one day, I will be stronger than him, he, will never again Scares me."
"Jacqueline," Hermione stepped forward to hug the trembling Jacqueline, "Harry and I, and even others, have never experienced what you said. And, Jacqueline, believe me, You are by no means a coward."
"Thank you for your comfort, Hermione." Jacqueline struggled to get out of Hermione's arms.
"I'm not trying to comfort you." Hermione said firmly, "Jacqueline, are you coming tonight? Maybe not face-to-face with the mysterious man, but..."
"Thank you for the invitation," Jacqueline pulled out a smile, "but, no. Besides, the person you are going to face may not be the person you think."
"What do you mean? Jacqueline," Hermione asked. "You still don't believe it was Snape? Harry told us that he once threatened Professor Quirrell."
"I trust my analysis, Hermione. And, if my analysis is not wrong, you will be facing Professor Quirrell."
"Then come with us," Hermione said firmly, "at midnight tonight, at Lu Wei's place on the third floor on the fourth floor."
"Who is Lu Wei?" Jacqueline asked. "And, as I said, I'm not going. I don't want to spend the whole summer in Mom's lab."
"It's the corridor on the fourth floor where the principal doesn't allow us to go. And," Hermione smiled confidently, "you will come."
Before Jacqueline could object, Hermione had sprinted away.
"I've been able to see my tragic vacation," Jacqueline said to herself.
"Go away," Jacqueline yelled, "leave me alone."
"Please, Jacqueline," Hermione said softly.
"Go away." Jacqueline was still pouting, "Go and stay with your 'savior'."
