[HP Doujin] take care of you
Chapter 2 Choice
"Remus." Even to her own ears, her voice was heartbroken.
Hearing her call him, Remus still didn't relax her wrist.
"They're dead, Ginny," he said aloud. "James, Lily, Sirius...they're all dead."
Ginny shook her head and looked away.
"You can't change either. Merlin, how I wish you could, but you can't. You need to realize that. Because your parents and brothers are coming soon. You can't be the same Crazy... because they can't just focus on you now."
His eyes were red, and Ginny noticed that he looked guilty despite his blunt words.
"That must be the most unselfish request I could ask of you," Remus said. "But I have to ask you to realize that none of your sweet dreams will come true now. They're all dead, and I need you to realize that."
Ginny felt like something was breaking in her heart.Remus let go of her wrist and climbed up from her.The two of them were lying on the ground of the school hospital, and Ginny stared at the ceiling, slowly gathering her thoughts. They are all dead. She had just thrown shards of glass at Remus - her best friend - because he wanted to help her.
Ginny exhaled, and turned to look at Remus. He looked at her intently, but didn't respond.
"Okay," she finally said. "you're right."
Because Lily and James are dead. It's time for her to realize this.
Ginny held a cup of hot tea, relieving her sore throat from shouting at Remus yesterday. Her dear friend Remus sat in a chair by the hospital bed, reviewing students' papers.Ginny took a sip of tea and asked, "What did you do after I left?"
Surprised, Remus raised his head slowly. It was the first reasonable question she had asked him since Ginny returned.
"What are you talking about?" he responded, putting the paper on his lap.
Ginny smiled wryly.
"I mean, what happened to you after I left? What happened to Lily and James? Sirius? I mean, I know what happened to them, but what happened? It didn't seem to matter at the time Things that seem to be important in hindsight...I want to hear about those things."
Hearing her explanation, Remus was even more surprised. He cleared his throat and moved in his seat.
"Okay." He paused, as if carefully considering what to say. "We're all sorry you're gone. No one expected you to go so fast, Sirius... It took him a long time to realize that you wouldn't be sending him letters or answering his letters. Everyone, even me, hopes to see you at the graduation ceremony, and you will eventually return to our side..." He was immersed in his thoughts, and his voice became lower and lower.
"But we graduated." Remus continued with a smile. "It was fantastic. James and Lily moved in together and got married in the autumn. Sirius, Peter and I rented an apartment in London so we could be close to Diagon Alley."
"How?" Ginny asked, and although she longed to hear Remus' story, she found her heart sinking.
"It was the best time of my life," Remus said. "Just like at Hogwarts, except that James didn't stay with us. But he and Lily came over as often as we expected. We continued to live like this for a year, and then we chose to separate. Voldemort It grew stronger and affected the entire wizarding world. I couldn't find a job, and although Sirius offered to lend me money, I found a cheaper place to live. Sirius moved closer to Lily and James. Peter said To live with my mother."
Remus cleared his throat, becoming more and more uncomfortable recounting these events.Ginny jumped at the chance to ask the question that had been on her mind for hours, and when Remus brought her sanity back, she wanted to ask.He had been with her for several days, leaving only briefly to see his students and his assigned readings.Other than that, he was at her bedside all the time.
"Have you ever met the right person?"
Remus laughed dryly and shook his head.
"No time to--"
"Where are you and Tonks?" Remus was dumbfounded. "You were dating Tonks when I left? I just remembered last night."
A flash of emotion flashed across his face, and he nodded.
"Yes, we are still together."
Ginny sat up on her knees, leaning closer to Remus.
"Then why have you been with me for so long? Where is Tonks?"
Remus looked away and took a deep breath. After he calmed down, he looked at Ginny tenderly.
"She understands how much you mean to me. I told her everything."
"Oh."
"However, there are some changes in our relationship." Remus said, looking into Ginny's eyes.
Hearing his nervous voice, she tilted her head. What might have happened between them?
"Ginny." He held out his hand to her, as if to help her get ready. "I proposed to her. Tonks said yes."
Ginny flinched, as if Remus had slapped her.She took a sharp breath and looked at him in horror. He is engaged? They are getting married?Remus rose worriedly, ready to hug her.
"No! Remus, are you engaged to Tonks?"
So selfish, Ginny realized, so selfish of me.Remus was here with her, how much time with Tonks had he missed? She had never thought about Remus's life outside of the school hospital.
"Yes." He withdrew his hand, looking sad. "It happened when you left."
She tried to get her breathing even, and she closed her eyes, feeling the tightness in her chest. She took a few deep breaths, and then exhaled slowly, so that the panic could slowly fade away.
"Remus, where is she?"
Hearing Remus sit back, Ginny opened her eyes.
"At Hogwarts," he said cautiously again. "Ginny, many members of the Order of the Phoenix are here now."
"I don't see anyone."
"You haven't recovered enough to see people," Remus reminded her. "But they are all here. This is the safe haven of the Order of the Phoenix. You must remember that we are preparing for the war against Voldemort."
Ginny shuddered and shook her head.
"I forgot."
"I know."
He is engaged.Ginny looked at her friend, her best friend, and she wondered what else was going on in Remus' life that he was afraid to tell her. There may be many things to tell her slowly, when he thinks she has recovered.
When the first rays of sunlight hit Ginny's bed in the morning, it was empty and already made up.A note was placed on the pillow, but there was no sign of the girl. The guardian of the school hospital, sleeping in her room, did not hear the soft footsteps of her only resident as she left the school hospital without permission.
Ginny carried a broom across the corridors of Hogwarts, listening anxiously for the sounds of wandering students or ghosts.Or even worse, a professor or a member of the Order of the Phoenix. The last thing she needs is to be found on the run.
Today, Remus and Severus' envelope was finally about to be opened.Ginny had carefully prepared for her return, planning how much time she would give herself before going to the Department of Mysteries, but fate seemed to be playing tricks on her, and she screwed up a lot.She has been in a daze, wandering through time and space, trying to sort out her thoughts. She wasn't studying the Veil, she wasn't looking for Severus, she was arguing with Remus, plotting to go back in time.
If Remus hadn't woken her up two days ago, she might have missed her chance to save Sirius.Remus, he's engaged.
Ginny felt a little sick at the thought. It wasn't because Remus and Tonks were engaged, she was one of the few bright faces in the Order of the Phoenix. It was more about the fact that Remus was engaged to someone whom he loved so much that he was willing to bond with her, which bothered Ginny. She's been taking his time, his precious time, and he's had to leave Tonks to take care of her, and he doesn't hesitate.
When she wrote instructions to him in 1978, she didn't even consider whether Remus already had a lover.Ginny risked Remus' life by infiltrating the Department of Mysteries when she and Sirius returned. It never occurred to her that he would have a family, or that the Ministry of Magic would be so dangerous, risking her life to break in.
Suppressing her guilt, Ginny slipped out of Hogwarts. No alarm was raised; no one was alerted, and Ginny was surprised that someone had left the castle. But, she reminded herself, Hogwarts was safe at the moment. After she left the venue, it was another matter.
She didn't tell Remus she was leaving. If she did, he might tie her up with a rope and keep her in the school hospital.Ginny just hoped he would forget about the unopened letter she had given him, that he wouldn't be looking for it after she was gone. There was little hope, but she had to pray anyway.
Ginny covered her face with her hair and ran around the field. The gates of Hogwarts stood in front of her, she shivered, put her hands on the cold metal, and closed her eyes.
"Please let me pass," she murmured.
She got on her broom and flew up.The cold winter wind was blowing on her neck, face, legs and arms...all exposed parts.Ginny was so stupid. She only wore the yellow dress Marlene gave her, which was not enough to resist the winter cold. Ginny used a few spells to make the dress thicker and longer. However, it still doesn't give her all the protection she needs in February's climate.
Ginny took a deep breath and flew towards the door, the cold air burning her lungs. She didn't know if there were protective spells on the gate, preventing anyone from going in and out on their own.So Ginny hesitated for a moment as she flew towards the gate, and then she let out a cry of triumph—and she flew.
Her hair slapped her face, and she brushed the curls aside impatiently, squinting at the dim lights of Hogsmeade below.Hogsmeade wasn't very active, and she wondered if it was as protected as Hogwarts.Ginny suspected not.But she still needs to use the Floo system to get close to the Ministry of Magic. She can't fly there today.
She was in the shadow of two buildings in Hogsmeade, and it was too dark for her to see very well.Ginny staggered against a brick wall, her legs weaker than she'd expected.Ginny took a peek at Hogsmeade's main street, but found nothing.
What is she going to do now?Break into a building and use their Floo system? What if it doesn't work?Ginny really didn't plan her escape from Hogwarts. She just left so suddenly, now is the right time to leave. This is her only chance.
But now, standing in the dark and cold streets of Hogsmeade, she found that there was no way to get into the Ministry of Magic.Voldemort controlled the Ministry of Magic, how was she going to get in?Ginny shook her head, trying to calm her head. She will take it step by step.It must succeed, must succeed.Hiding in the shadows, Ginny walked up Main Street.
Immediately she saw someone standing in the middle of the street, staring at her in the moonlight.Ginny stopped, as if frozen in place, and the world suddenly went dark.
Ginny woke up sore, and found herself lying on the floor of an unfamiliar room. She bit her lip and sat up so as not to groan. She's aching all over and still hasn't recovered from time travel. She brushed the hair from her face and looked around the room.
The room was dark, but a fire was burning in the far fireplace.Bookshelves lined the walls, filled with dusty books that looked like they had never been touched.Ginny froze when she spotted someone sitting in a chair, her face hidden in shadow.Ginny immediately rummaged for her wand, but sure enough, she couldn't find it.
She was suffocated by the fear, and she couldn't speak at all.She looked at the man, guessing who he really was, and the man leaned forward suddenly. The firelight illuminated the wrinkles on his face and his large nose.Ginny's eyes widened.
"Severus?"
His face was expressionless, but he raised an eyebrow slightly, as if surprised that Ginny would call him that.Severus was older than Ginny remembered. He looked as though he had just returned from hell, but there was a grace about him that Ginny had never seen before.
It scares her.
"Look who wakes up at last," he said viciously. "Our Sleeping Beauty."
The hairs on Ginny's arms stood on end, and goosebumps covered her body. This wasn't the man she remembered at all: he wasn't the teenager he had been 19 years earlier. She tried to slow down her heavy breathing.
"Are you from Hogsmeade?" Ginny asked after a long silence, staring at him.
Ginny flinched as Severus stood up from her chair. The fireplace was the only source of light, and his skin was very pale, but he was dressed in black. He poured himself a glass of wine, took a sip, and nodded.
"How do you know I'm there?"
He turned to look at her with a look of disgust.
"Weasley," he said, and stopped. "Stiles."
She flinched. The way he said her name made her want to throw up.
Hearing her call him, Remus still didn't relax her wrist.
"They're dead, Ginny," he said aloud. "James, Lily, Sirius...they're all dead."
Ginny shook her head and looked away.
