[HP Doujin] take care of you
Chapter 49 Extra Story: October 10
The white marble feels cold to the touch, which is no surprise since it's freezing cold outside. But Sirius didn't care much, he squatted there, tracing the name on the tombstone with his fingertips. Those letters were very familiar, the downward J, and his heart throbbed when he wrote the a, then the m, e, and s.If he had been free then, if Azkaban hadn't taken so many years of his life, if Peter hadn't been so smart, Sirius would have had "Brother" engraved on the marble.James may be an only son, but he has brothers and loves his brothers very much.
He looked at Lily's name and could vividly remember her sitting across the table at Potter's, laughing at him.He could see James leaning against the sink, tossing one of Harry's toys back and forth, while the baby was giggling in his father's arms.It was all so real, as if it happened yesterday, and Sirius sometimes believed that when he turned around, he would see James and Lily standing behind him.
A sigh escaped his chapped lips as he stroked the last letter, his fingers firmly pressed against the tombstone. They were still very real to him, and he couldn't believe they had really left.
"I was surprised to see you in that sweater," said a voice behind him.
Sirius turned around in embarrassment, with a look of joy in his moist eyes.He didn't have to wipe his tears. Not while here.
"Don't you like it?" Sirius asked Remus.
Remus continued to smirk, but Sirius could barely tell because his face was mostly hidden by a brown woolen scarf.Sirius looked down at his sweater.Dazzling orange, Sirius squinted at it as usual.Even after washing for a year, it has not faded. He had a feeling, however, that Molly Weasley had done it on purpose. The sweater symbolized many things, the main one being that the Weasleys had fully accepted his new marriage to Ginny. The big black S showed that he was now a real Weasley.
It was a feat he wasn't sure he could pull off.
So he likes to wear this sweater at home.Ginny said it made her pay more attention to him, even though it was a very bright color. She had also given him full permission to wear it in public, and she had always been sure that he had no choice but to remain faithful to her—after all, no woman would approach him in that hideous color. This became a running joke between Sirius and his wife.
But Remus was right, and on the morning of October 10, Sirius was surprised to find that he didn't want to take off the sweater. It was comfy, and the thought of taking it off at home to visit his brother, his sister, his best friend in cold weather seemed so wrong. While Sirius was still wearing the sweater, Ginny didn't question it.She just held his hand and they went to the cemetery together.
It has become a tradition for Remus, Sirius, Harry and Ginny to gather in Godric's Hollow every year on Hallow's Eve.No one else joined and everyone knew they didn't want to be disturbed. Those four lost more than anyone else when James and Lily died.Harry lost his parents, Sirius, Remus and Ginny lost their families. They lost a life they can only have now in a dream. They lost their hopes, dreams and love.
Sirius tried hard to maintain a smile on his face, stood up, walked over to Remus, and stood shoulder to shoulder with him. They stared sadly at the tombstone, and there was a moment of silence.
"I think James will laugh at you when he sees you wearing that sweater."
Sirius looked at Remus, smiled and shook his head.
"Well, I think so too."
"It's also a bit old."
To prove his point, Remus reached over and pulled a hole in the sweater.Sirius laughed.
"But not as old as Ginny's."
His wife's astonishing collection of Weasley sweaters filled a box in the attic. Her mom made a new sweater for her only daughter every year, always a soft red sweater with a pink G in the middle.Sirius knew that Ginny liked these sweaters, but she would rather wear an old Hogwarts sweater. They were falling apart, but Ginny wouldn't take them off.Sirius began to understand why.
Ginny seemed to know he was thinking of her, and glanced at them both. There was a smile on her lips, the smile she always wore every time she saw him.He likes to think it's his smile.
Sirius looked at his wife, his lover. His eyes were on her face, on her curly hair that fell to her shoulders, on her little hand stroking Harry's.Harry stood beside Ginny, looking down into her ear.She was listening, but Sirius knew that her bright eyes were still on him.
He looked at the tombstone again. They were all silent, standing together with their peers. When they came to the cemetery, Ginny liked to tell Harry her memories of his parents, and Harry liked to listen.Remus and Sirius liked to listen too, but from a distance.
Sirius squeezed Remus' shoulder. He didn't let go of Remus' shoulders until Harry and Ginny were beside them.Harry's face was still stained with tears, his eyes were red, and Ginny was squatting by the tombstone, looking not much better. She breathed hard and stroked the names of her friends just like Sirius had just done.Harry wiped his face carelessly and took a shaky breath.
"Do you think they'd be proud of us?" Harry asked softly.
Hearing his words, Ginny turned around and looked at the three, who were all waiting for someone to answer.
"Yes." Sirius finally said softly. "We're still a family after all that we've been through and I think they'll be happy."
Remus nodded in agreement, and Harry took a deep breath. When Sirius put his arms around his godson's shoulders, Ginny smiled familiarly again, and she thought everything was fine.
