[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind
Chapter 103 The Broken Resurrection Stone
Travis was sitting on a chair with his head in his arms. There were more than a dozen books spread out on the table in front of him. There were also several crystal vials containing potions. One of the crystal vials was knocked down. A dark blue liquid was slowly flowing down the table legs.
He didn't seem to feel Tom's approach at all, and he didn't look up sharply until Tom stood beside him.
"Oh, Tom," he said hoarsely, forcing a smile on his face, "Come on, say hello to my wife, she's standing right behind you."
Tom didn't move, but said indifferently: "There's no one there."
"Yes, none of you can see her..." The smile on Travis' face disappeared, and he spread his palm to reveal the Resurrection Stone inside, "You're here to get this, aren't you?"
Tom held out his hand, but Travis immediately clenched his fist.
"No, it's not yet," he said, with a look of mad eagerness in his eyes. "It's almost, and I'm almost there. As long as I bring my wife back, I'll give it back to you .”
"That has nothing to do with me," said Tom coldly. "Now, give me the key to the cellar."
Travis ignored him, but opened a crystal bottle.
"Okay, I'll try this again, honey," he said, frowning at someone in the air, "...yes, I'll be careful."
He squeezed the ring, making a gesture to put it into the bottle containing the bright purple potion.
Tom cursed under his breath, then raised his wand and hit Travis on the wrist.Travis let go with a yelp. The bottle and the ring fell to the ground at the same time, and with the crisp cracking sound, purple smoke with a pungent smell rose from the ground in an instant.
Tom squinted his eyes, and while coughing, he quickly chanted a flying spell, and successfully summoned the resurrection stone.
"No—" Travis opened his eyes red from the smoke, "Give it back, Tom! Give it back to me—here comes the Resurrection Stone! Fly the ring!"
His Flying Charm had no effect, for Tom held the ring firmly in his hand.
"Quick imprisonment."
A magic rope bound Travis firmly.
"No, Tom..." he said tremblingly, "Not now, don't take away the resurrection stone...I'll make it soon...Look at the information on the table, I'm only a little bit close."
"What are you going to do?" said Tom, frowning slightly.
"Yes," Travis said eagerly, "like we discussed before, I can turn the resurrection stone into a container for the soul. Once I complete this step, I can let my wife use the resurrection stone Resurrected……"
"How are you going to call back a dead man's soul?" Tom asked blankly.
Travis's expression became gloomy, and he replied hoarsely: "Yes, this matter is really not easy. But I have studied a lot of materials these days, but no one in history has successfully summoned the soul back, No one... If the soul refuses to come back, the living cannot summon it back to the human world, and for some reason, they are usually unwilling to come back..."
"This means that you can't resurrect your wife at all. Everything you have done is in vain." Tom sneered and said, "Give me the key to the basement now."
"No, my wife is back, all she lacks is soul and body," Travis said eagerly. "She's standing there—exactly as she was when she was alive. That's not some goddamn apparition, If you could see her, Tom, you'd know—"
But he couldn't finish all the words, because a powerful whipping spell hit him on the cheek.
He let out a scream, and a bloodstain immediately appeared on his face.
"I just want to know where the key is. If you say another word of nonsense, I'll make you suffer even more," said Tom grimly, poking him in the neck with his wand.
"Do you know what you're doing, kid?" Travis stared at Tom in horror, and said hoarsely, "What you're doing will get you into Azkaban."
"You too, Mr. Travis." Tom sneered sarcastically. "And the keys?"
Travis was silent for a moment before whispering, "I won't give it to you."
Tom raised his wand, and Travis immediately shuddered.Tom looked at him contemptuously, but instead of using the Whiplash Charm, he exclaimed, "Here comes the key!"
"It's no use doing that," Travis said. "The keys have anti-return charms on them."
"Very well." Tom smiled indifferently, and said softly, "Don't worry, I won't do anything to you, Mr. Travis. But you seem to have forgotten Saoirse—that poor girl is Lying unconscious on the living room rug. If you choose to give me the key, I will keep her safe."
Travis stares at him momentarily blue-faced, as if debating how truthful his words are.
"Make up your mind," said Tom softly.
Finally, Travis finally whispered, "...the keys are in my coat pocket, the one on the right."
Tom leaned forward to take out the keys and looked down at Travis for a few seconds.
"Stop being stupid, kid," Travis pleaded. "You've got what you wanted. Let me go."
"I will," said Tom dryly, "when I'm sure she's all right."
Hearing this sentence, the blood on Travis' face disappeared instantly.
Tom opened the door, and a musty smell made him hold his nose.
"Eleanor?" he called, and lit his wand.
But no one responded to him.
After a few seconds, he finally saw the figure sitting in a corner curled up in a ball.
He walked over quickly and knelt down to observe her situation.
With the light of his wand, he was surprised to find that her body was showing a gray color, like a state between entity and ghost.
He reached out to pat her shoulder, but felt a cold touch coming from his palm.Strange ripples appeared where he touched, like a stone thrown into calm water, swinging in circles.
Tom felt again the same intense uneasiness he had seen Eleanor lying unconscious on the ground.
"Eleanor, wake up." He whispered.
Eleanor finally moved a little, then slowly raised her head.
She blinked in confusion—her green eyes had turned dark gray.
"Tom?" she said hoarsely, "what are you doing here?"
Tom took the resurrection stone ring out of his pocket and said impatiently, "I'll talk about that later. Hold out your hand and take this."
"You got the ring back." Eleanor showed a hint of surprise on her face, and then reached out and grabbed the ring.
Tom stared at her and saw that the gray was slowly fading from her.He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Wait here," he said, and stood up to leave.
"Tom." Eleanor suddenly whispered his name from behind.
Tom frowned and turned around, "What?"
"There's a crack here," Eleanor said softly. "On the Resurrection Stone, there's a crack. Do you see it?"
Just as she finished speaking, there was a slight cracking sound.
"Oh, no," she exclaimed in a low voice. "Tom, that rock is cracking. Do you see that? It's about to crumble."
Tom knelt down and took back the resurrection stone from Eleanor.
The black stone was already covered with cracks like spider webs, and it looked like it was about to shatter.
He murmured, "That's impossible."
Eleanor gave a soft "ah" and stared down at her body. She is rapidly turning gray.
"No, Eleanor... take this," Tom murmured, trying to slip the ring back into her hand.
But his hand went straight through Eleanor's body.
Eleanor looked up at Tom, her face showed horror and trepidation, "I think I've..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a crisp cracking sound came clearly.
The resurrection stone shattered completely, and a few shiny fragments fell to the dusty ground.
"No, no," said Tom tremblingly, staring at the ring in disbelief.
Eleanor looked at Tom silently. This was the first time she had seen him show real fear, or despair.
She suddenly felt very calm, even calmer than when she was a ghost.
"Tom." She whispered his name in a soft voice that surprised even herself.
"I'll fix it," said Tom hoarsely. "Bring it back!"
As expected, his spell had no effect at all.
"Tom, Tom." Eleanor continued to call his name, preventing him from continuing to restore the Resurrection Stone in vain. "Look up, Tom, don't bother with that damn stone."
Tom finally looked up at her.
"Kiss me, Tom," said Eleanor softly.
"You're crazy," said Tom, frowning.
"I'm not crazy," said Eleanor quietly, her hands completely pearly white and her hair starting to lighten.
Tom's dark eyes stared at her silently, his lips quivered a little, but he said nothing.
Eleanor sighed. She closed her eyes and quietly felt the changes in her body. She could no longer smell the musty smell in the air, nor feel the movement of the air.She began to feel that her whole body became light and ethereal, as if she would leave the ground and fly into the air at any moment.
After a few seconds, she felt soft lips on her own.
She breathed greedily, Tom's breath drifting into her nostrils. And this was the last she could smell.
Then, the touch of the lips gradually disappeared.
Finally, she felt her whole body float up.
All her clothes fell through her body and fell to the ground, she is jjj like a newborn baby now.
Eleanor opened her eyes and saw that those dark eyes were turning reddish.
"No," murmured Tom, "no, no..." He kept repeating the word, as if that would stop what was happening.
Eleanor looked down at her hands, which were slowly changing from pearly white to fully transparent.
"Stay, Eleanor." Tom moved his lips, his voice was weak, "...don't leave me."
Eleanor raised her head with a smile on her face.
"I'm sorry, Tom..." she said softly, "but don't worry, everything will be fine...and remember, I've always been..."
But she couldn't finish her sentence.
A few seconds later, her body gradually dissipated into the air like gray smoke
He didn't seem to feel Tom's approach at all, and he didn't look up sharply until Tom stood beside him.
