[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind

Chapter 117 Holliday's Letter

A few days later, Eleanor heard a shocking news from Cloris.

Holliday's house is attacked by werewolves on the day of the full moon. Her husband fled alone, leaving her pregnant.Holliday was severely bitten and is still in a coma in St. Mungo's Hospital.

"Poor girl," sighed Cloures, "even if the wound is healed, she will be a werewolf in the future."

Eleanor reached out and touched her neck subconsciously—the place where the vampire bit her was almost healed. She could fully imagine what kind of fear and pain Holliday had suffered.

In the afternoon, a totally unexpected visitor visits Eleanor's house.

That visitor was Laura Smith—no, it should be called Laura Malfoy now.Her eyes were sunken and she looked haggard, as if she hadn't had a good night's sleep in a long time.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but I have a letter for you." Laura said hoarsely to Eleanor, and took out a white envelope, "—it's my sister's letter."

Eleanor looked at the letter Laura handed her in surprise, "Did Holliday write to me? Why?"

"To be honest, I don't know either." Laura sighed, stroking the rim of her teacup with her fingertips, "If I remember correctly, you and my sister shouldn't be very close. But this letter from her stated that In order to send it to you, and specially used a secrecy spell that no one but the recipient can open—that is one of her best spells."

Eleanor looked down at the envelope, on which her name was clearly written——Eleanor Alford, and it was also marked in small print that only she herself could open it.

Eleanor did not open the letter immediately, but asked, "How is Holliday?"

"It's not very good." Laura said wearily, "I have to go back to the hospital right away."

Eleanor hesitated for a moment, "Don't you want to know the contents of the letter?"

Laura shook her head and gave a forced smile, "Obviously, Holliday only wants you to read this letter alone. Don't worry, I'm used to her keeping secrets from me, so I don't care what she wrote. No concern - I just hope her body recovers soon."

After Laura left, Eleanor opened the letter.

The beginning of the letter reads:-

"Miss Alford:

I thought for a long time, and finally decided to write this letter to you.Pain and regret have haunted me since that incident passed.I still have nightmares to this day.I want this to stop, and the only way is to tell the secret. But I can't tell my loved ones, and I don't have any friends to talk to, so I finally decided to tell you everything.

You have a right to know that the person next to you is not who you think it is.If he really cares about you so much, then this is my small revenge on him..."

In subsequent letters, Holliday recounts what happened a few years ago—the truth about the death of her grandmother, Hepzibah Smith.

A few years ago, Hepzibah Smith was found dead in his bathtub.People say that she died suddenly because of taking too long in the bath.Hepziba was very old, and she had always had some heart problems, so no one suspected the cause of her death.

"She did not die suddenly of natural causes," Holliday wrote, her handwriting beginning to scramble with excitement, "—it was a murder. Grandmother had the habit of drinking milk in the bath, so he Poisoned her milk. That poison, I believe, should have made her death look indistinguishable from a heart attack.

I saw him poisoning, and he didn't know I was watching him through the door.I saw him dripping an oddly colored liquid into Hepbazz's milk. And I didn't stop him, although I had already vaguely guessed what he wanted to do at the time.In fact, I've been secretly wishing Hepzibah to die sooner rather than later. My parents would also often curse the old woman in private, because then my family could inherit her property.

I feel guilty for being selfish and cruel. But what happened next, I felt more fear of him. "

Eleanor frowned deeply, and subconsciously squeezed the letter paper tightly.

... Who is the "he" she refers to?

"In the process of doing everything, there was only an indifferent expression on his face, as if killing people was just a common practice for him. But when facing Hepziba's corpse, he was so calm, and even showed a smile.

'Don't make that frightened look, Holliday. She's dead, no one will bully you anymore, aren't you happy? 'I still clearly remember what he said, the voice was so cold that it almost made my blood freeze. What was even more frightening was that I nodded at him. Then, like a ghost, I hid everything I knew. "

"After the incident, my family got Hepzibah's inheritance as they wished. When we counted the inheritance, we found that Hufflepuff's gold cup was missing. I knew he must have taken it, because he has always been concerned about the gold cup. Intrigued. Could this be his reason for killing Hepzibah? This scares me again because of his cold blood.

Finally, at my begging, our family moved out of the UK.I thought that would be the end of it all.But when I saw him again, it became clear to me that that incident would haunt me forever like a nightmare.

Oh, Tom Riddle, he looks so charming, but who knew he was actually a brutal murderer? "

Eleanor took half a step back, her legs softened and she fell to the sofa.

"It's impossible," said a voice in her mind indistinctly, but another, clearer voice said, "Is it really impossible?"

She had known Tom to be cold and unsympathetic. Moreover, she once suspected that Tom murdered the Riddles. When she knew that someone else had murdered the Riddles, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

That is to say, she also once regarded Tom as a brutal murderer.

But where exactly was her shock now coming from? She found herself subconsciously refusing to believe everything the letter said.

If it was a long time ago, she would have believed what the letter said without any doubt.

But now she was unwilling to believe any of the words written on it.

"That's because you're in love with him. You don't want to believe that you're about to marry a murderer," said the clear voice.

"No, I don't believe it...he won't do that." Eleanor whispered, covering her forehead. He had no reason to kill Hepzibah, did he?Just for a gold cup - that would be ridiculous.

Eleanor curled up on the sofa, silent for a long time before moving slightly. She folded the letter and put it back in the envelope, with a decision already made in her mind.

The next evening, Tom did not come back before dinner as agreed.

Eleanor couldn't sleep, so she had to sit in the drawing room and read a detective novel, but couldn't read a word of it.In the end she had to give up the book and start knitting a woolen hat.

In the middle of the night, Tom finally came back.

"Tom!" Eleanor immediately stood up from the sofa, and then she realized that something was wrong with Tom.

He leaned on the wall and staggered into the living room. His face was paler than usual, and his brows were knit together.

Eleanor hurried over to support him, and suddenly smelled a faint smell of rust coming from him.

"What happened?" she asked, frowning, before noticing that the front of his shirt was soaked in blood. "Oh, my God, so much blood—are you hurt?"

"I'm fine." He frowned and said hoarsely, "That's not my blood."

Then he pushed Eleanor away, stumbled to the sofa and sat down.He let out a long breath, and then began to unbutton his jacket.

Eleanor went over to help him take off his blood-stained shirt, then found a clean room and handed it to him.

"What happened? You don't look okay at all." Eleanor asked.

But Tom didn't answer her.

He closed his eyes tightly, his face was as pale as paper, and cold sweat kept oozing from his forehead.

Eleanor wiped the sweat from his forehead and said worriedly: "You need to go to the hospital."

"No." He half-opened his eyes, looked at the ceiling with a blurred gaze, and said hoarsely, "I'm not hurt, just a little tired. Let me sleep." After he finished speaking, he closed it again. Eye.

Eleanor sighed, trying to get up and find him a blanket.

"... stay here, Eleanor," murmured Tom dreamily.Eleanor had to sit down again.

Soon, his breathing became steady, and he seemed to be really asleep.

The next morning, Eleanor opened her eyes suddenly and found that she had fallen asleep on the sofa.

She subconsciously looked around, but Tom had already left. The remaining warmth on the sofa has completely disappeared, which shows that he has been gone for a long time.

She went around the house and finally confirmed that Tom had indeed left.

Just then, the owl delivering the Daily Prophet appeared on the windowsill.Only then did Eleanor remember that she had subscribed to this month's newspaper.

A striking piece of news in the newspaper caught her attention.

Last night, a senior official of the Ministry of Magic was attacked by werewolves in his apartment and died of serious injuries. This is the second werewolf attack this month. And this official once proposed and finally passed a bill a few months ago, which greatly reduced the already scarce employment opportunities for werewolves.

Strangely, after the attack, hundreds of Muggles witnessed a large green skull appear in the sky.The next morning, the sign mysteriously disappeared, and no one was able to take a picture of the skeleton in time.

Eleanor couldn't help thinking of the bloodstains on Tom's body last night.Tom said the blood wasn't his, but he wasn't actually hurt.

So whose blood is that?

Eleanor stared at the news, and a very uncomfortable thought came to her mind.

—Tom may well have had something to do with it.

Perhaps he was the one behind these attacks, said a voice.Perhaps, he found out that Holliday wanted to tell the secret, so he killed him to silence it.

"No!" Eleanor threw the newspaper aside violently, then curled up on the sofa in distress.

She had to trust him, she told herself.

Does she really want to doubt a man who is about to marry her?

A few minutes later, Eleanor suddenly stood up from the sofa.

—to Hogwarts.

That was the only thought left in her mind.

She just wanted to see him now, that's all.She didn't want to care about other things for the time being.
