#337 - What other countries' astronauts think

America, NASA Astronaut Training Center.

Usually, the trainee astronauts would have already started their training, and the veteran astronauts would be their instructors. However, today's situation is somewhat different. They are not in the training ground or classrooms, but gathered in a medical laboratory.

The young astronauts are lying on beds, experienced astronaut instructors are standing by, and more researchers in white coats are carefully monitoring various data. The computers displaying the data have various lines connected to helmets on the beds, and the helmets are worn by the young astronauts.

These helmets are none other than Navigator Technology's Mirage Helmets, and all are top-tier helmets with a 50% immersion level.

Having learned from the previous ticket-grabbing experience, America was better prepared this time and successfully secured more than a dozen top-tier Mirage Helmets.

Moreover, they didn't want to cause any more trouble. After trading for the orbital shuttle last time, their agents were almost compromised, and the little they got back was of no use whatsoever.

Fortunately, the helmets were more convenient and not as confidential as the orbital shuttle, so they were easily purchased.

Reverse engineering was definitely on the agenda, as America had started with reverse engineering in the past. But before that, after watching so many videos and consulting some users, they still needed to try it out themselves to see what it was really like.

After hearing that Navigator Aerospace was using Mirage Helmets for space tourists, and that they contained a complete astronaut training system, it became clear that Navigator's official astronauts must have been using them for a long time. Extending that further, it was possible that Tianxia's astronauts were also using them.

With that in mind, NASA couldn't afford to fall behind.

However, veteran astronauts and instructors are NASA's treasures. The middle-aged ones are not only experienced and ready to perform space missions at any time, but they also know many of NASA's secrets, so they couldn't be used for testing.

At least not by letting them enter Navigator's network and opening their brains to Navigator. They would only be used after a finished product was reverse-engineered.

So, the only option was newly recruited astronaut trainees who were also NASA astronauts and knew fewer secrets.

Since the beginning of commercial spaceflight, NASA knew that the number of astronauts would explode in the future. Traditional training methods were expensive and took too long, so they would definitely need to be updated.

However, NASA didn't have a good solution for what to replace them with, how to speed things up, or how to reduce investment.

They had made several attempts to integrate some advanced technologies into astronaut training programs, such as VR helmets and "holographic training," which sounded impressive but didn't produce good results.

Then, when Navigator's space tourism program was launched, the number of astronauts did indeed begin to soar.

Those "pseudo-astronauts" who were just going to space for tourism didn't count.

According to statistics, there were no fewer than fifty astronauts who could operate shuttles and conduct experiments on space stations!

Although Navigator claimed that those who trained and served on the space station were "trainee-level," some people at NASA thought that it was ridiculous to call them "trainee-level" after they had already been to space and the space station.

But in any case, it was a fact that Navigator suddenly had dozens of astronauts, and it was said that there were dozens of real "trainee-level astronauts" undergoing ground training.

Wow, how long had it been? Navigator already had hundreds of astronauts?

And they had them all at the same time, which was the most amazing thing.

NASA usually only recruited astronauts every few years, and only a few or a dozen at a time. America only had a few dozen active astronauts.

Now it seemed that the reason Navigator could maintain such a large astronaut team, besides the fact that its astronauts didn't do research and thus saved on training costs, was also closely related to the Mirage Helmets.

Through the video feed from the helmets, the astronaut instructors and scientists standing outside could clearly see what training the trainee astronauts were receiving. Seeing them really experience the feeling of weightlessness in the Mirage world, everyone's expressions were serious.

However, the meaning of their serious expressions varied depending on their roles.

In the Mirage, the expressions of the dozen or so trainee astronauts were much better than those outside. The most common expression on their faces was surprise.

As trainee astronauts who joined last year, they were considered active astronauts at NASA, but it wasn't their turn to go to space yet. They had to wait for a long time for training.

Their earliest chance to go to space would probably be next year, when the first batch of space station astronauts rotated out. Only three of them would have the chance to go to space and the space station.

As for the moon landing a few months later, it was even less likely to involve them. They could only watch.

Just like watching Navigator send batch after batch of space tourists into space.

It was ironic that as professional astronauts, and astronauts of the world's most powerful NASA, they had fewer opportunities to go to space than ordinary people.

Of course, they believed that at least before they joined NASA and became astronauts, NASA was still the most powerful on Earth.

Now, thinking that the equipment they were using was from Navigator, they felt a little sad.

They even had some other thoughts.

"Could it be that my joining lowered NASA's average score, making it less powerful?"

But they quickly dismissed the idea.

"No, no, no, I'm so excellent. I came to NASA after many rounds of selection, defeating countless opponents. I'm the ace of aces. How could NASA decline because of me? I can definitely lead NASA back to glory!"

With this mentality, they entered the Mirage space and found the "Astronaut Training Program" that had appeared many times before, and began to explore, test, and train seriously.

You have to admit, the Mirage space is amazing. Not only is the training process similar to their previous training, but the 50% realism is also impressive. If they don't consciously think it's fake and immerse themselves in the training, it's easy to confuse it with their formal training.

The only thing that's a bit out of place is the Chinese character labels inside, but that's okay. They've learned Chinese, which is a new subject added to their batch of astronauts.

In the past, astronauts were required to learn Russian, but now they have to learn not only Russian but also Chinese.

As for why, NASA didn't say, but they all knew.

But one thing is for sure, the Mirage world and the Mirage Helmet are amazing. After completing the basic training and giving a task report to the people watching the video outside, they boarded a spaceship to space.

The spaceship was an early Shenzhou-style spaceship. Navigator was originally authorized by the Tianxia Aerospace Administration. Now that the Tianxia Aerospace Administration has new manned spaceships and more advanced orbital shuttles, the old spaceships naturally don't need to be kept so secret, especially since this is a virtual environment.

Therefore, the function of being used as training equipment is highlighted.

When the spaceship flew into space, the trainee astronauts experienced the feeling of weightlessness and were pleasantly surprised.

They had experienced weightlessness before, but they used the parabolic flight method of an airplane, and they only experienced the food time for thirty seconds at a time, but because they had experience, they could tell whether it was real weightlessness.

The result was self-evident.

The simulated universe of the Mirage space won.

[Okay, the training is completely successful. You can take a break for now.]

Seeing the instructions from outside, their excited and tense nerves relaxed, and then they became excited again.

"Cough, they're letting us rest, so let's... go for a walk?"

"Ahem, a walk is good, but we can't relax. I suggest we go play... try the Mirage game 'Interstellar Era', after all, it has some connection with space."

"Yes, I've read some guides online, and players say that it can really show the space environment and completely simulate the life of humans in the interstellar era, especially the spaceship flight is very realistic."

Someone whispered: "Navigator is amazing..."
