The Admiral of Hogwarts
#408 - Alchemy and Kreacher
"Alright." Just as everyone was discussing the runes, Hugo also put down his final stroke, and then he took a step back to examine what he had just drawn. "Now, this magic circle can be activated."
After hearing Hugo say this, the others followed his instructions and retreated to the doorway of the small guest room designated for Hugo, and then curiously looked into the room.
After confirming that everyone had retreated to a safe position, Hugo quickly came to the door and took out his wand, then drew his wand and chanted in the ancient Viking language: "In the name of Frigg, cleanse!"
As Hugo's voice fell, the runes on the walls and furniture were activated, scattering a silver light filled with tranquility and warmth.
Standing at the kitchen door, the others could see the light from these runes eventually merging into a silver vortex of light.
At the same time, they could feel a gust of wind forming out of nowhere in the room. At first, the wind was not strong, but its intensity gradually increased, causing the corners of their clothes to flutter.
Finally, when the light completely disappeared, a clean and tidy bedroom appeared before them. All the furniture and other items were spotless and immaculate, even the floor and ceiling looked as if they had been scrubbed several times.
On the floor by the head of the bed, there was a large pile of rubbish. Besides dust and some rotten and damaged items, there was also a large pile of Flobberworms and the corpse of an unusually large Bundimun.
Somewhat eerily, both the Flobberworm and Bundimun corpses looked noticeably shriveled, as if they were cockroaches that had been swept out from under the bed after being dead for a long time.
"Well done, this is absolutely fantastic!" Sirius excitedly patted Hugo on the shoulder and said. "If we had to clean it up ourselves, this room would definitely take hours to clean."
"It seems you were being modest just now. You're not just an alchemy apprentice, but an alchemist. You could even say a very excellent alchemist."
"As far as I know, a wizard who can skillfully master and freely apply various runes is at least at the level of an excellent alchemist. And if this wizard invents some new alchemical products, then they can be called an alchemy master."
Unlike the Weasley family, which had been declining for several generations, the Black family to which Sirius belonged had only suddenly declined in his generation, so even if he wasn't very familiar with alchemy, his eye for talent was still there.
"I just used some knowledge left by my predecessors, nothing as amazing as you say." Hugo shrugged and said, after all, he obtained the skills from Odin, so it was much easier than normally acquiring them.
"Besides, using alchemy to clean the house is indeed very fast, but the only drawback is that the cost is too high. Just cleaning such a small bedroom costs one Galleon and two Sickles, not even counting my labor costs."
"So I think unless it's a special situation like this, if I need to clean the room at normal times, I'd rather just use insecticide, a rag, and a feather duster to solve the problem."
"And this kind of magic also has limitations, for example, those things placed in containers that have been enchanted cannot be cleaned, like the display cabinet downstairs—"
"Enough, I'm willing to pay for it." After hearing Hugo say this, Sirius not only didn't back down, but directly took out a money bag and put it in Hugo's hand.
"I know your alchemist's rules, the cost and labor fee are 1:1. Here are 22 Galleons, clean a few rooms on this floor for us first."
"No problem." Hugo took the money bag and put it in his pocket, then nodded. "After all, I'll be living here for a while, so doing some work is necessary."
"The young master is a disgusting, ungrateful, low-down scoundrel, not fit to lick his mother's boots. Oh, my poor mistress, he even brought those pure-blood degenerates into the house. What is poor Kreacher to do??"
Just as Hugo put away the money bag and was about to go to the next room to start cleaning, a creaking sound came from the wooden boards, and then a short and hunched figure walked up from downstairs, muttering.
This house-elf was almost completely naked except for a dirty rag tied around his waist, like a loincloth used by men in tropical countries to cover their bodies.
He looked very old. His skin seemed to be several times more than his body actually needed. Although his head was bald like all house-elves, a large amount of white hair grew out of his two bat-like large ears.
His eyes were bloodshot, watery and gray, and his fleshy nose was very large, almost like a pig's nose. As he walked, he kept muttering in a croaking, hoarse, and low voice.
After going upstairs, he was obviously a little surprised by the appearance of a group of people here. He stopped muttering and made a very obvious but very suspiciously surprised look.
"Kreacher didn't see the young master just now." he said, turning to bow to the twins standing in the front. His face was still facing the carpet, and he said again in a voice that others could completely hear: "They are the old degenerate's disgusting little brats."
"Sorry?" George said, "I didn't hear the last sentence clearly."
"Kreacher didn't say anything," the elf bowed to George again, and then said in a voice that was very light but clear, "These are his twin brothers, a pair of weird little wildlings."
After speaking, the house-elf named Kreacher slightly raised his head, and then saw Hugo, Hermione, and Venetto walking out of the room.
"Three new people have come here." Kreacher glanced at Hugo and the others, then paused for a moment before lowering his head and continuing to mutter: "Scum, Mudbloods, thieves, this time there are actually three more non-humans."
"Oh, my poor mistress, if she knew underground, if she knew what kind of scum they brought into her home, what would she say to old Kreacher? Oh, it's so shameful, what is poor old Kreacher to do??"
"Shut up! Go back to your little den." Sirius ordered, unable to bear it any longer. Watching Kreacher mutter and walk towards the attic, Sirius looked annoyed. "He's completely mad, after listening to ten years of my mother's portrait's mad ramblings."
"Although he says he's cleaning every day, the room is getting darker and dirtier day by day. I only see him coming out and pretending to be cleaning, but in reality, he's hiding a lot of things."
"Silverware, medals, books, it feels like he's collecting all the things my parents used to use. Then he piles them up, and every time we try to clean it up, he tries to pick those things back up."
"Alright, enough." After complaining for a few sentences, Sirius sighed and then walked downstairs. "I was planning to hold a small welcome party for you and Harry, but now it needs a little time. Also, I hope you have a pleasant stay here."
