The Admiral of Hogwarts
#477 - Surprise after the exam
Their last exam was History of Magic, which wasn't until the afternoon, as it was only a written test. So, Hugo slept in the next day, not getting up until after nine in the morning.
When he came downstairs, he found many students in the common room looking at their notes. Even though they couldn't memorize much at this point, an extra glance always brought a bit of peace of mind.
"Here, I brought you some food," Venetto said, sitting down next to Hugo and handing him two sandwiches wrapped in a handkerchief. "It's almost over, finally. These exams are driving me crazy."
"Don't worry, this is the last one," Hugo said, giving Venetto a big smile. Even for the ship girls, exams were exhausting.
At two o'clock in the afternoon, the fifth-year students walked into the Great Hall and sat down in front of their face-down exam papers. Every student in the hall felt calm at this moment.
Because after a long period of preparation and continuous exams, this ordeal was finally coming to an end. Once this exam was over, they could rest properly and relax for a while.
Professor Binns, the ghost, didn't show up to proctor the exam as usual. Everyone was exhausted and just wanted this long exam to end quickly.
"Turn over your papers," Professor Marchbanks said at the front of the hall, immediately turning over the large hourglass. "You may begin."
These exam questions weren't simple memorization. For example, the fourth question was: In your opinion, did the Wand Regulation contribute to or hinder better control of the goblin riots in the eighteenth century?
This was much more difficult than the fifth question (How was the International Statute of Secrecy violated in 1749, and what laws were subsequently proposed to prevent similar occurrences?). Because this was a free-form essay question, there was no ready-made answer.
These types of questions were graded based on points, and the examiners would score based on the completeness of the points answered. There were quite a few of these types of questions, each requiring a large amount of historical fact to support the arguments. Each question could be seen as a mini-essay.
After answering less than half, Hugo felt his head start to buzz, vaguely feeling a sense of irritability. Fortunately, with perseverance, he finally finished the entire paper.
After finishing the paper, he occasionally looked up at the hourglass at the front while checking his answers, and occasionally glanced at Harry sitting in front of him out of the corner of his eye.
If he remembered correctly, in the original plot, it was during this exam that Harry saw Voldemort capturing Sirius Black.
Now, Hugo's biggest concern was whether Harry would see anything again this time. Although, according to Harry's previous dreams, Voldemort was still following the historical inertia and preparing to plot for the prophecy orb in the Department of Mysteries.
But nothing happened. Hugo finished the last question about the expulsion of giants, and nothing happened until Professor Marchbanks told all the students to put down their pens and start collecting the papers.
Harry didn't receive the signal from Voldemort like in the original text, and naturally didn't fall to the ground screaming like in the original text.
What exactly is Voldemort planning? Hugo frowned as he walked out of the exam hall, seeming out of place with everyone else. He found himself as if in a fog, and this unknown made him feel extremely uneasy.
Everyone was happy on the night of the exam. Even with the help of some usually active classmates, the Ravenclaw fifth-year students held a small celebration in the common room.
Naturally, everyone was happy on this occasion, but everyone was a bit exhausted from the previous review. So, everyone dispersed to rest after not playing for too long.
However, after everyone went to rest, Hugo and Hermione put on their windbreakers and took their wands and left the room, because the exam committee members were at the school these days, so the prefects were also organized to carry out patrols.
The sixth and seventh-year prefects were responsible for patrolling in the previous few days, and now that the fifth-year exams were over, the fifth and sixth-year prefects would patrol, while the seventh-year prefects would return to prepare for the exams.
The seventh-year exams were scheduled after the fifth-year exams, so in a few days, it would be the turn of those seventh-year students to take the last exam in the school.
"I think this thing is purely formalism. No one can attack Hogwarts normally, and those who really come to attack can't be stopped by ordinary students, so this has no value except for reducing our rest time."
Hermione yawned and complained as she lit her wand and walked down the corridor. She felt that patrolling now was purely a waste of time.
"Who says it isn't?" Hugo shrugged, just as he noticed that at the side below their corridor, the front door of the castle opened, and light projected out along the stone steps, illuminating a small patch of grass below.
"It's almost 12 o'clock, why are people still leaving the castle?" Hermione also saw the light, and curiously looked down.
At this moment, five or six long shadows were walking across the grass illuminated by the light, then the door closed, and the grass fell into darkness again.
However, for the Granger siblings, who were no longer human, this darkness could not hinder their vision. With only the dim starlight of today, they could distinguish that the short, fat figure leading this group of people was Umbridge.
Obviously, something was bound to happen tonight. After all, it was unlikely that Umbridge would go out for a walk in the middle of the night, let alone take five people out for a walk.
A few minutes later, these people crossed the lawn in front of the castle gate, and then a burst of knocking passed through the empty space from a distance, and a deep bark of a large dog rang out.
Hagrid's hut lit up again at this time, and the people crossing the grass were silhouetted by the light. The door opened, and Hugo and Hermione clearly saw six distinct figures cross the threshold. The door closed again, followed by silence.
"Let's go down and take a look now," Hugo thought of Professor McGonagall, who was almost sent away by a wave of Stunners in the original text. Considering Professor McGonagall's age and the fact that she was on the night shift tonight, he felt that he really couldn't gamble on Professor McGonagall's luck.
As they went downstairs, a loud bang came from the grounds, and Hagrid's door suddenly opened from the small window on the side of the stairs.
A burly figure roared and waved his fists, surrounded by six people. Those people fired thin red beams of light in his direction together. From this, it could be seen that they seemed to want to stun him with Stunning Spells.
"This is damn—shit!" Hermione exclaimed softly after seeing this scene, and then ran quickly down the stairs. Seeing this, Hugo could only follow quickly.
Unexpectedly, when they arrived in the hall, they happened to see Professor McGonagall coming down from the other side of the stairs wearing a traveling cloak, and the two sides happened to meet at the grand staircase.
"Mr. Granger, Miss Granger, you've come at the right time. I just saw that something seemed to have happened at Hagrid's, so could you go with me to take a look?" Professor McGonagall said after seeing Hugo and his sister.
