The Comprehensive Evolution of American Comics
#408 - Mutation
“She has been like this for days.”
Superman looked at Diana through the monitor with a worried expression. The latter was curled up on the largest bed in the RV, her face buried in her knees, making it impossible to see her expression.
“I can understand Diana's feelings. It must be terrible to fight with your own family.”
Superman felt lingering fear about this. He suffered a lot when he first met Zod because of their shared heritage. How much more would Diana suffer fighting her own blood relatives?
Batman remained silent with a cold face, offering no comment. His parents were his weakness. His nemesis, Scarecrow, often used fear gas to make him recall that unbearable alleyway. The Joker even frequently joked about his parents. Even though he would beat him every time he caught him, the Joker never changed.
Speaking of which, the Joker sent him an expired 'Parents Exchange Coupon' a few days ago. It seemed like it had been a while since he had last taught him a lesson; his skin was itching again.
“Don't worry about Diana,” Batman said, pulling himself out of his thoughts. “She will recover. She just needs a trigger. Instead of worrying about her, we should think about the Amazons controlled by Circe.”
“You're right,” Superman agreed. “We should liberate Themyscira. Then Diana will cheer up.”
“I'm afraid that won't work, Superman,” Yang Le shook his head. “Although Themyscira is small, it is actually a country. The Justice League shouldn't interfere in this kind of coup. Diana is a princess of Themyscira, so of course, she doesn't care, but if we interfere, the nature of the situation changes.”
“Yang Le is right,” Batman concurred. “The Justice League ultimately does not have law enforcement power. The reason we are accepted by the public is because we deal with super villains that ordinary people can't handle. What is happening on Themyscira is not within the scope of what superheroes can interfere with.”
“Foreign invasions, terrorist attacks, and monster crises are all things we can deal with, but Circe used an Amazonian with 'legitimate' rights to achieve her goals in a way that complies with Amazonian rules, so we can't intervene.”
“Then what should we do?” Superman completely abandoned his super brain and started using his external brain.
“Wait,” Batman blurted out after a brief moment of thought, causing Superman to stare blankly.
“What?”
“Wait,” Batman repeated. “I don't believe Circe will be satisfied with just Themyscira. Having the most powerful single-soldier race in the world, her intentions are almost obvious. Not to mention Yang Le mentioned that Wotan is also involved. Chaos is his favorite thing.”
“You mean war?” Superman immediately understood Batman's meaning. “But, if that's the case, shouldn't we do something in advance?”
“Batman is telling us to wait for a legitimate reason to intervene,” Yang Le said with a smile. “Although Circe has Themyscira, she doesn't like it there. We all know she hates everything on Themyscira, so rather than owning it, she would prefer that Themyscira be destroyed.”
Batman glanced at Yang Le before continuing, “That's right. If I'm not mistaken, Circe will soon declare war on some place for some reason. It could be against humans, or it could be against the Atlanteans. Of course, in my opinion, targeting humans is the best.”
“Because humans have nuclear weapons. If Themyscira starts to threaten human society, I don't think humans would hesitate to drop a few nukes on that island far away from human society. As for the coordinates of Themyscira, I think Circe would be happy to offer them.”
“At the same time, humans with this kind of power are also ignorant. They won't know what happened on Themyscira, and if we guess wrong, the humans who destroyed Themyscira will definitely be resented by the Olympian gods, and who knows what will happen then.”
Superman couldn't help but feel his scalp tingle. If it really was as Batman said, the world would be in chaos. After all, even he might not be able to win against those well-known Old Gods.
“As for Diana,” Batman looked at the monitor again, even he couldn't help but sigh at seeing his comrade so dejected.
“Let her listen to the news more. The world is very chaotic. Maybe she will hear something that will make her want to stand up and fight for this world again.”
Thus, Yang Le's exchange with the world's best duo ended. Yang Le's original intention was to see if these two could find a way to solve Diana's problem. He didn't expect to talk so much and go so far.
Yang Le took Batman's advice. After all, he was not only an expert in psychology but also worked with Diana for many years. His understanding of her was definitely better than his, who had only known her for a few days and otherwise only knew her from the comics.
As Batman said, after Yang Le turned on the TV in the RV and played the news, Diana's mood improved significantly. Yang Le could even see her listening intently.
The process was long, but it also gave Yang Le his own time. He could finally study the Ultimate Evolution Device that the other him had sent, as well as the Nth metal and the chains forged by Vulcan that he had picked up.
Yang Le enjoyed this immensely. With the wisdom of the Little Wonders, he was always able to discover different things. This brought him a great sense of accomplishment, prompting him to continue his research. Even after only a few days, he could start modifying these metals.
Just when Yang Le thought these days would last a long time, a piece of news changed the situation.
“Breaking news, breaking news,” a suited reporter suddenly appeared on the TV screen, even though the peanut butter commercial that had been playing was only halfway through.
“Just now we received news that an Amazonian from the mysterious Themyscira was discovered in a gene research institute.”
The latest novel is first published on 69shu.com!
Hearing news about the Amazons, Diana immediately perked up her ears. After hearing what had happened, she stared directly at the TV.
“It is with great sadness that this Amazonian was subjected to inhumane torture. By the time the Justice League rescued her, she was already on her last breath. She is currently being resuscitated…”
At this point, the TV played several photos. Most of the photos showed a blurred figure covered in mosaics, while the remaining small part showed the superheroes participating in the rescue, all of whom Diana recognized.
“What?” The reporter covered the earpiece on his left ear and listened for a while, then said with a solemn expression.
“Just now we received another new message. The leader of the Amazonian tribe contacted the President. She is extremely angry about the fate of her people. She threatened the President that we must hand over the murderer, or she will use force, even if it means war!”
Yesterday's update was the content of the Marvel Universe in the second volume. I didn't expect that updating in the old volume would not give a reminder. Since this is the case, let's finish writing DC first, and then go back to writing Marvel. When the time comes, a new volume will be opened for Marvel.
