Green Monster Epic

#19 - Distribute the spoils

"The living kobold prisoners are all yours, but the hobgoblins and goblins are not."

The battle ended completely as the sky darkened. The skirmish took up half a day for Allen and his group, but the losses weren't too significant. At this moment, Allen and Phil were facing a large pile of items scavenged from the kobold camp, along with thirty-odd captured people, discussing and starting to distribute them.

The goblin lineage has three major branches: goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears.

The way to distinguish them is simple: green-skinned dwarves less than three feet tall are goblins; green-skins between three and four and a half feet tall are hobgoblins; and green-skins of the same height as humans, exceeding five feet, with fine fluff on their bodies, are undoubtedly bugbears.

Although the branches are different, there is a reason why they can be classified into one lineage, and that is that these three types of branches can intermarry and reproduce offspring, and their offspring have no problem of reproductive isolation, and can still give birth to qualified offspring. This is the root of their origin.

After defeating the kobolds, Allen needed to consider a problem: how to increase his strength in order to firmly gain a foothold in Green Lake and occupy the relatively fertile territory of the kobolds.

Relying solely on the natural growth of their Greenwild Tribe would definitely not work, so the quickest way would be to absorb other members of the same race to increase their strength, which could minimize various hidden dangers. Goblins, as the lowest level intelligent creatures in the wilderness, have always had the harshest living environment, basically existing as vassals or slaves of other wilderness natives, and even being raised as meat pigs by kobolds and the like.

The reason for this is naturally that the relative strength of the goblin lineage is weak, making it extremely difficult for experts above the legendary level to appear, and their race has no gods born, which makes goblins the best bullying target for other intelligent creatures in a world where gods exist and develop believers.

But precisely because of this, if Allen wants to develop and strengthen the Greenwild Tribe, directly absorbing the goblins from the Bonefire Tribe as slaves and meat pigs is more reassuring than recruiting unruly kobolds. Goblins and hobgoblins, who share the same origin, are more likely to accept the rule of bugbears.

"That's natural."

Phil agreed immediately without any hesitation.

Besides the fact that bugbears still have some value as slaves, the other two branches of the goblin lineage are not worth capturing even for the most greedy slave owners. Phil, as a part-time slave owner, would naturally not do a losing business. And if the seven surviving kobold cubs could be transported back to the human world by Phil, then the cost of hiring the Eagle Mercenary Corps would be almost earned back. Having this windfall already made Phil very satisfied, not to mention that there was a large pile of various handicrafts, gold, and silver jewelry waiting for him and Allen to distribute. At this time, agreeing to the other party's small conditions also meant that he would have greater say in the subsequent distribution of wealth.

"However, when it comes to the distribution of these goods later, I think Chief Allen should also give us some compensation, right?"

"Don't worry, I'll keep it in mind."

Allen nodded.

The arrival of the night could not stop Phil and Allen's activities of dividing the spoils. Under the illumination of the oil lamp contributed by Phil, Allen, as the supervisor, watched Phil sort out the various items accumulated by the kobolds one by one. It took more than two Aesha hours to completely sort out this batch of wealth.

"This pile of gold coins comes from mixed sources, with coins from elves, dwarves, orcs, and even more than a dozen human countries. I have distinguished them according to the purity of the gold. Among them, a total of 173 have a gold content of more than 90%; the rest have a gold content between 80% and 90%, with a total of 65; in addition, I have also calculated the number of silver coins according to the silver content..."

"This pile is ordinary handicrafts. The exquisite craftsmanship of the elven system is more popular in human society, the majestic and magnificent production of the dwarven system, and the sufficient materials are loved by orcs, while human handicrafts tend to be ordinary. They still have a market in major kingdoms, but the price will not be too high..."

"And these blankets and fabrics are seriously damp and have begun to fade, basically without much value..."

Phil grasped the measure. Except for gold, silver, and precious metals that were difficult to fake, other handicrafts and direct sales became things of little value under his deliberate depreciation, just because he was sure that Allen knew nothing about it.

Allen seemed not to care about the spoils of war, but in fact, he hid in the darkness and used the goblins' dark vision to quietly observe the various expressions on Phil's face, trying to find out where the other party was wrong. Allen thought it was certain that the other party would play some tricks on the spoils of war. If it were him, he would definitely do the same. It's just that he still couldn't understand the value positioning of the human commercial system. Even if he knew that the other party had played tricks, he didn't really care. It's just that the wilderness people's habit of selfishness was deeply rooted in his bones, and Allen never wanted the other party to earn too much from him.

"You can decide how to price it. Anyway, these things will rot and mold if they are left here. It's better to give them to you to buy off other useful items."

Allen began to distribute these spoils of war with an attitude of not seeing and not worrying: "So, all these handicrafts, blankets, and the like will be given to you, as well as the animal skins collected by the kobolds. Our tribe also has inventory, so you can take these together."

"Oh, how can I be so embarrassed? After all, you also have a share. It's not good for us to take them all."

Phil pretended to be embarrassed, but in fact, he was overjoyed. Although the total value of these items has been somewhat damaged due to poor storage, if they are really transported out of the wilderness and sold to the civilized world, at least the value should not be lower than the currently seized gold, silver, and jewelry.

"Of course, I'm not giving it to you for free. We don't need these things, but I like these shiny things. I won't divide the remaining gold, silver, and jewelry for you. I'll take them all."

Afterwards, Allen's words suddenly stunned Phil. Seeing the flash of light in the other party's eyes, Phil always felt that the bugbear in front of him was not the real deal, but a skin worn by a little fox.

"This, this..."

Phil wanted to refute, but he couldn't say anything in the other party's territory. After all, although the other party had agreed to give him the right to distribute the spoils of war before, he didn't say the specific share. If you really want to calculate, what you have now allocated has exceeded your previous expectations. As a qualified businessman, Phil still knows the principle of knowing when to stop, especially when his opponent is a shrewd man-eating green skin.

"...Okay."

Phil didn't expect his opponent to be good at tricks and suffered a small loss by underestimating the other party. His whole heart was a little lost, and he weakly agreed to Allen's proposal.
