Harry Potter: Glory Bows to Me
Chapter 18 The Unexpected Butterfly Effect
Passing through a corridor with a high arch, Professor McGonagall led the group of first-year students into a small empty room.
"The opening banquet is about to begin. Before you go to the restaurant to take your seats, you must determine which house you will enter. The sorting ceremony is an extremely important ceremony, and I hope you will take it seriously. No matter which house you are sorted into, I hope you can love your own house, because each house has produced extremely outstanding wizards. While studying at Hogwarts, your performance may cause your house to gain or lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the highest score will receive the house cup."
Professor McGonagall briefly introduced the rules of the house to them.
"The Sorting Ceremony will begin in a few minutes. I hope you will take care of your appearance while you wait."
When Professor McGonagall said this, her eyes lingered on several students whose clothes were a little messy for a moment, and then she hurried away.
Amanta quickly lowered her head to examine the laces of her cloak, and straightened her clothes, making sure to smooth out any corners of her clothes that had been messed up along the way.
"what!!!"
Suddenly, there were several screams from the crowd.
Amanta looked up and saw several milky white, translucent figures jumping out from the wall - the ghosts of Hogwarts. They were talking to each other and floating straight over their heads.
A ghost wearing an intricately stacked ruff collar spotted them.
"Hey, freshman!"
A ghost smiled and spun around among them, causing gasps from the crowd.
"I hope you can go to Hufflepuff! I am a Hufflepuff."
Another ghost dressed as a monk said.
Before the freshmen recovered from their shock, Professor McGonagall came back. She opened the door, looked at the crowd and said, "Line up and follow me."
Harry squeezed into the line first, Amanta quickly stood behind him, and Draco lined up behind Amanta.
They walked out, passed through a hall, and entered an extremely luxurious and spacious dining room.
There were four long tables in the restaurant, and many people were already sitting on both sides of the tables - students from other grades of Hogwarts, who cast all kinds of curious and scrutinizing glances at the crowd.
Several people apparently noticed Harry and pointed at him in front of Amanta and whispered.
Amanta guessed that it was because Harry's sweat had wet his bangs, exposing the scar on his forehead.
Amanta heard a few words floating by as she passed by the long table.
"Look at that boy, he looks like he has a lightning-shaped scar on his head."
"I saw it. Let me calculate how old Harry Potter is...hiss - it can't be really him?"
There was a long table on the platform in front of the four dining tables, where other Hogwarts teachers were already sitting.
Amanta followed the team inside and lined up in front of the teacher's seat.
She subconsciously looked up. The vaulted dome of the restaurant was not an ordinary roof, but a starry sky like the sky outside they had just seen. Thousands of candles were floating under the sky, making the entire restaurant brightly lit.
Professor McGonagall placed a four-legged stool in front of the first-year students, and then placed an extremely worn and patched pointed wizard hat on it.
This is the famous Sorting Hat.
The noisy conversations in the restaurant gradually died down, replaced by silence, with everyone's eyes fixed on them.
The wide brim of the Sorting Hat suddenly split open a crack, like a big mouth. Then, it opened its big mouth and began to sing an ancient but beautiful ballad.
- Maybe you think I'm not pretty.
- But you must not judge people by appearance.
- If you can find a hat prettier than mine - I'd eat myself!
-……
The Sorting Hat's song was interesting and melodious, attracting the attention of the whole audience. Perhaps only Amanta was secretly glancing at the teachers' seats out of the corner of her eye, counting the professors and guessing their identities.
She spotted Professor Quirrell, his head still wrapped in the same purple scarf that Amanta had seen him in at the Leaky Cauldron.
As for the professor next to him, who was wearing a black robe and had a gloomy face, Amanta guessed that he was Professor Snape, because he had a huge hooked nose and a head of greasy black shoulder-length curly hair.
-……
-Because I am a magic hat with thoughts!
After the Sorting Hat finished singing, everyone applauded enthusiastically. A pair of twins stood up at the Gryffindor table, waving and whistling at the first-year students.
Amanta withdrew her gaze and looked at the Sorting Hat, which was bowing to the four tables one by one.
Professor McGonagall came forward holding a roll of parchment.
"Whoever I call now will put on the Sorting Hat and sit on the stool."
Professor McGonagall looked at the list and read aloud:
"Hannah Abbott!"
A little girl with golden pigtails staggered out, sat on a stool and put on the Sorting Hat, but the Sorting Hat was too big and covered her face.
After a while——
"Hufflepuff!"
shouted the Sorting Hat.
There was a cheer from the Hufflepuff table, and several students clapped their hands loudly. The ghost dressed like a monk who had just passed by them smiled at Hannah, took off his hat and saluted.
"Terry Butt!"
"Ravenclaw!"
"Lavender Brown!"
"Gryffindor!"
……
Names of first-year students were called one after another and they stepped out of the line. They put on the Sorting Hats helplessly and ran to the long tables of the colleges they were assigned to. The students at each table clapped and cheered their arrival.
"Hermione Granger!"
Amanta heard Professor McGonagall's call, she looked at Hermione who was running over and hurriedly putting the hat on her head, and silently said in her heart without any emotion: "Gryffindor".
After a moment, the Sorting Hat shouted:
"Ravenclaw!"
???
Did she hear it correctly? !
Amanta could hardly suppress the expression on her face. She looked over Harry's shoulder in surprise and saw Hermione had already jumped towards the Ravenclaw table, leaving only the back of a woman with chestnut brown curly hair.
Why Ravenclaw?
She recalled what she had said to Hermione a while ago on the train, when they had discussed which houses they wanted to go to:
"I think we should follow our inner choices instead of listening to outside comments."
…It seems that her arrival has triggered a series of plot changes.
Once the dominoes fall, it will be an endless chain reaction.
How much commotion can a tiny butterfly cause when it flaps its wings?
