Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 299 Sweet Dreams
They fell into a long silence. Occasionally it was interrupted by the chirping of a bird or the fluttering of a butterfly's wings. The air was filled with the sweet scent of flowers. The sun was high in the sky. It was a pity that they had nothing to do in the shade of the palace except riding horses or something.
"You may not have a family now." Li Xueyue said slowly. "But you can start your own one."
"What on earth are you—"
“Minghua still loves you.” Li Xueyue’s face was expressionless. She cursed her heart for actually sympathizing with him. But he had lost everything in his life. There was nothing wrong in throwing a bone to that man.
"She doesn't—"
"She does."
Wen Jinkai's head slammed into her, and he ignored the possibility of a sprained neck. "Don't try to lie to me, I know her heart will never beat for me again."
"I thought so too. If I were her, I would have left two and a half years ago. I would not have stayed in the palace and endured the psychological torture of the queen." Li Xueyue said bluntly.
She sighed and leaned back against the bench. "But she obviously didn't do that. She still loves you, even now. You hurt her, but she's willing to forgive you if you apologize as hard as you can."
Wen Jinkai wasn’t sure if Li Xueyue had instilled false hope in him. He was willing to try. Not for him, but for Li Minghua. He had given her nothing but empty promises, and now, he was willing to give her everything.
"Let's go." Li Xueyue said.
"What?" Wen Jinkai asked in astonishment.
“What are you waiting for?” Li Xueyue gritted her teeth. “Find her. Chase her. Make sure you don’t lose her this time.”
Wen Jinkai didn't need to be told twice. "Thank you."
After saying that, he left.
"You're so polite." Li Chenyang said as soon as he walked into Xueyue's waiting room.
When he lived in Li's house, Li Chenyang could walk into her bedroom without any difficulty, but now, there were too many surveillance eyes. For the sake of reputation, regardless of their status as siblings, Chenyang would only enter her living room.
"You thought I could finally control myself after all the hardships I've been through." Li Xueyue muttered. "But no, I just need to sympathize with the enemy."
"This is called the adult, the youngest." Li Chenyang explained. He leaned back in his chair, crossed his legs and leisurely drank a sip of tea. He was really exhausted after a day in the palace.
Li Chenyang has always known that the crown prince has a heavy responsibility, but he does not think that the crown prince needs to learn how to govern a country. He rubbed his forehead and sighed heavily.
"Tired?" Li Xueyue asked. She was worried about his current state. When he was just a simple minister, his work was already overloaded. And now, he seemed to be shouldering more responsibilities.
"I'm fine," Li Chenyang lied. Despite this, he still slumped in his chair, forgetting all the rules of etiquette.
Li Chenyang didn't want the topic to stay on his health. He didn't want to be entangled by her. "I don't think the remaining princes will try to usurp the throne."
The corners of Li Xueyue’s lips drooped and she frowned. This was not a topic she wanted to talk about. She would rather not know anything.
"The Fourth Prince has not yet woken up from his coma, and the doctor said he suffered multiple blows to the head... I wouldn't be surprised if he had amnesia when he woke up."
Li Xueyue had no time to ask, but how did the Fourth Prince get out alive? Weren't all the qualified heirs to the throne slaughtered until the next heir was the Li family? She knew that the Second Prince had a safe passage, but what about the neglected Fourth Prince? And what about his mother, Concubine Gu Feiying?
Li Chenyang saw the confusion on her face. "You may not know that the Fourth Prince has always practiced swordsmanship. He is an excellent warrior and he will not defeat the enemy without fighting."
Li Chenyang shook his head. He hadn't expected that this bastard would be so strong. "He knocked down twenty of our men before he finally failed. To be honest," he said while drinking tea, "I hope he never wakes up."
Li Xueyue did not respond. She silently picked up a piece of cake and took a bite.
The food was delicious, but she had no appetite.
She pulled down her sleeves, hoping to hide her slender wrists: she had lost so much weight that her bracelets sometimes slipped off her body.
"Of course, there's nothing to worry about." Li Chenyang said.
He turned to face her and smiled at the crumbs that had fallen on her legs. He wiped them off her and then wiped her face with his handkerchief, just as a mother would wipe a child.
"Take small bites and don't eat such crispy things. Come, try the chestnut bun." Li Chenyang said as he picked up the delicious food on the plate.
Li Xueyue picked up a piece of cake and frowned.
"No, you need to eat more—" He paused as she handed it to him. He took the pastry. She took the plate. He blinked in surprise, then let out a warm laugh.
"You're a pig indeed," he quipped, biting into a small snack. She glared at him and then took a bite-sized piece of cake from her plate.
"Will you miss me in Hanjian?" Li Chenyang suddenly asked out of pure curiosity.
Li Xueyue sneered. "No, I won't."
"You kid——"
“Someone once told me that stupid questions get stupid answers.”
Li Chenyang didn’t know who said that to her. He put down his bent fingers. It seemed unnecessary to flick her…but he curled his fingers so that she wouldn’t need to scold.
"Of course I will miss you," Li Xueyue said. "I will miss all of you, mom, dad, Wenmin, and even those servants who never talk to me."
Li Chenyang ignored the fact that she didn't mention Minghua. "Will you promise to write to me?"
"I don't make promises anymore," Li Xueyue mused. "But yes, I swear I will write to you. Even if I have to use my blood as ink."
Li Chenyang rolled his eyes at her dramatic words. "As if Yu Zhen would not give you parchment and ink."
Li Xueyue chuckled. "You never know. Maybe I'll get to Hanjian and Yu Zhen will get tired of me. Then I'll be abandoned and he'll host a younger, prettier me."
Li Chenyang frowned. "Xueyue, if he really did this, I hope you will inform us immediately. Don't keep it all in your heart, don't be like Minghua."
Li Xueyue knew it was her foolish fear, but she couldn't control it.
Yu Zhen is the crown prince of Han Jian. His achievements as a commander must have won him many suitors. His new position will attract even more women. Just to get his attention is tantamount to a bloody battle.
"Brother Chen, don't worry." Li Xueyue said. "If Yu Zhen really bullies me, you will be the first to know."
"This is also the last time you tell me." Li Chenyang muttered in a low voice.
"Hmm? Brother Chen, did you say anything?" Li Xueyue asked doubtfully. She thought she heard something... Was it her imagination?
Li Chenyang's lips curled up into a big smile. He reached out and patted her cheek gently. "Yueyue, this is nothing to worry about."
"Oh my god, that horrible nickname no longer exists."
"Hmph, you just don't know how to appreciate creativity." Li Chenyang said.
"What's there to appreciate anyway..." Li Xueyue muttered with a smile on her face.
Li Chenyang held his era playfully. "What is that, Yueyue? Do you want a flick on the forehead?"
“I said it’s a great nickname!” Li Xueyue exclaimed. “The best of the best!”
Li Chenyang laughed out loud at her blatant diss. He rubbed his nose and smiled. "I know, right? Your brother is very talented in art, isn't he?"
For his self-esteem, she swallowed it back and nodded. "Of course!"
"You should say yes." Li Chenyang said. "Not sure'-"
"It's getting late," Li Xueyue pointed out. "Children shouldn't stay up late."
Li Chenyang narrowed his eyes. "Then who do you say is the child?"
Li Xueyue pointed at herself. "Myself and me!"
Li Chenyang chuckled. He estimated that she would not be flicked on the forehead today... He stretched out his hand, patted her cheek for the last time, and then smiled.
"You're so smart," Li Chenyang retorted. He stood up and held out his hand to her. She took it without hesitation.
"Yueyue, have a good rest at night."
"Good dreams, Brother Chen."
