Chapter 103 Protecting Fantastic Beasts
"How was your prophecy class?" Walking into the History of Magic classroom, Pansy greeted Jacqueline, and Jacquelin walked over to sit beside her.
"Compared to my arithmetic and divination, it is much more boring, but it is slightly better than Muggle research." Jacquelin said and glanced at Malfoy, "But if it is Malfoy, he will be very happy, because the professor just predicted Harry is unknown."
Her words made Pansy laugh out loud, and then a gust of cold wind passed by them. It was their ghost professor who walked in, and the people in the class immediately shut their mouths.
After class, Pansy and Jacquelin immediately walked to the dining room. They had a section on protecting magical animals in the afternoon. That was Hagrid's class, who knew what he'd come up with?
"I heard you were the only Slytherin in Divination class?" Malfoy sat beside them, with two of his minions next to him. "As a Slytherin, would you go to a prophecy class?"
"The only time," Jacquelin held the knife up in front of her eyes, "I admit you were right." She sighed, "That was all guesswork."
"Then you are really responsible for yourself." Malfoy snorted, "Protecting Fantastic Beasts, have you taken this class too?"
"That's a compulsory course in the elective course," Pansy said.
"Lesson later," Malfoy lowered his voice, "None of you are allowed to interrupt my good business!"
"As long as you don't cost us the House Cup," Jacqueline said.
Malfoy sneered, and walked out with his two followers.
"Hagrid's first class, I'm afraid it will be a good show." Pansy said with a giggle. "To be honest, I'm beginning to like that giant a little bit, but it's a pity that it's really..." Pan Xi shook his head, "He's so irresponsible."
"He's actually quite responsible." Jacqueline put down the knife and fork in his hand, and walked out with Pansy, towards Hagrid's cabin. "He's just like Gryffindors, he has no brains."
They walked down the ramp to Hagrid's hut, where they saw the Gryffindors.Only then did they know that they were going to take this class with the Gryffindors.
"It's a real treat this time," Jacquilin whispered, and Pansy walked over to the Slytherin side.
Hagrid was waiting for his students by the cottage door.In his moleskin overcoat, with the teeth of the hounds at his feet, he seemed eager to go. "Come on, hurry up!" he called, as the students approached. "I have something good to treat you today! We will have a wonderful lesson soon! Are you all here? Okay, come with me!"
For a harrowing moment, Jacquiline thought Hagrid was going to lead them into the woods. But Jacqueline quickly rejected his idea. It was a forbidden forest, and students were not allowed to enter. However, Hagrid only led along the edge of the woods, and after five minutes they were outside a paddock. There is nothing there.
"Come up to this fence, everybody!" he cried. "That's right, stand where you can see. Now, the first thing you will do is open your books."
"How?" said Draco Malfoy in his cold, drawn-out tone.
"Huh?" said Hagrid.
"How do we open books?" Malfoy repeated. He took out his <Book of Monsters of Monsters>, which he had tied up with a string.Others brought out their books, too; some, like Harry, bound theirs; others kept the book in a strong bag or in a large clip.
"No, won't anyone be able to open the book?" said Hagrid, looking downcast.
"Touch them." Jacquilin took out the book from her schoolbag, and slowly opened it under everyone's surprised eyes. "What page are you turning to?" she asked.
"Yes, yes," said Hagrid, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "Look..." He took Hermione's book and tore off the tape that bound it.The book wanted to bite, but Hagrid's forefinger slid up and down the spine, and the book shuddered, then opened, and lay peacefully in his hand.
"Oh, how stupid we are!" Malfoy sneered. "We should be reading these books! How could we not have thought of that! Miss Graham, you are really..."
"That's what my mother did," Jacqueline interrupted Malfoy before he could finish.Malfoy just shut his mouth.
"I, I think these books are ridiculous," said Hagrid hesitantly to Hermione.
"Oh, how ridiculous!" said Malfoy, "so clever it makes us want to tear the books out of our hands!"
"Shut up, Malfoy," Harry said quietly.Hagrid looked downcast, and Harry wished Hagrid a successful first lesson.
"That's right," said Hagrid, who seemed to be losing his mind and couldn't find the words. "Well, then you all have books. Oh, and now all you need are magical creatures. Yes. I'll go find They, wait." He left the students and walked into the woods. After a while it was out of sight.
"God, this place is going to die," Malfoy exclaimed. "This stupid teaching, if I tell my dad he won't be so angry."
"Shut up, Malfoy," Harry said again.
"Be careful, Potter, there's a dementor behind you."
"Ooooh!" screamed Lavender Brown, pointing across the paddock.
A dozen of the strangest creatures Harry had ever seen in his life walked quickly towards them. They have the body, hind legs, and tail of a horse, but their front legs, wings, and head appear to be that of an eagle, with sharp steel-colored beaks and large bright orange eyes. The claws on their front legs are half a foot long and look deadly.Around each beast's neck was a thickly feathered collar, to which was fastened a long chain, and the ends of these chains were held in one large hand by Hagrid, who trotted after the animals to paddock.
"Go over there!" he yelled, shaking the chain, and yelled at these guys to come over to the fence where the class stood.Everyone backed away a little as Hagrid approached and chained the guys to the fence.
"The Hippogriff!" Hagrid roared happily.Waving a hand at them, "They're pretty, aren't they"
Jacqueline wished he could raise his hands and feet in agreement, there were twelve of them! There was even one in the forest in front of her house, though the other was killed when she was four for reasons she didn't want to recall.Seeing this half-horse, half-bird is a shock at first glance, but once the shock wears off, you'll appreciate its shiny coat, which transitions smoothly from feathers to fur, and comes in a variety of colors: dark gray, Bronze, pinkish sand (red and white), shiny maroon, and finally jet black.
"Well," said Hagrid, rubbing his hands together and smiling slightly at the class, "if you want to get closer . . . "
No one seems to want to do this. "Well, the first thing you have to know about hippogriffs is that they're proud," said Hagrid, "and it's easy to offend them. Never offend a hippogriff, because It's probably the last thing you want to do."
Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle weren't listening, they were whispering. "You always wait for the hippogriff to make the move first," Hagrid went on. "It's polite, see? You walk up to it, you bow, and you wait. If it bows back to you, You can touch it. If it doesn't bow, get away from it, because those claws are going to hurt."
"Okay, who will come first?" In response, most of the students backed away. The monsters were shaking their heads angrily and spreading their mighty wings; they didn't seem happy to be restrained like this.
Jacqueline wanted to step forward, but two hands grabbed her arms, one left and one right, dragging her back a step. The book in her hand almost fell to the ground because she couldn't hold it steadily.Jacqueline knew that Pansy was on his right, but left? She turned to see Hermione bit her lip.
"Is there no one?" Hagrid asked, asking.
"I'll do it," said Harry.
Someone behind him took a deep breath, and both Lavender and Parvati whispered, "Oh no, Harry, think about your tea!"
Harry ignored them.He climbed over the fence of the paddock.
"They're actually pretty gentle," Jacqueline said softly, a little embarrassed.Hermione turned her head in confusion, and Jacquilin didn't continue to speak, but just shifted her gaze down, leading Hermione to look at Jacquelin's grabbed arm with her eyes.
Hermione quickly withdrew her hand as if on fire, hugging her chest in embarrassment.
And then Hagrid undid one of the chains, dragging Buckbeak away from his companion and slipping off his leather collar. All the students across the paddock seemed to be holding their breath.Malfoy's eyes narrowed maliciously. "Relax, okay, Harry," said Hagrid quietly, "you and it have to look at each other, and try not to blink if you blink too much. The monster doesn't trust you.."
Harry's eyes were about to water, but he didn't close them.Buckbeak had turned his large, pointed head and was looking at Harry with one furious orange eye. "That's right," said Hagrid, "that's right, Harry, now, bow..." Harry was very reluctant to show Buckbeak the back of his neck, but he obediently did.He bowed slightly, then straightened up to look.
The monster still looked at him hostilely. It doesn't move.
"Ah," said Hagrid, sounding worried. "Okay, back off, now. Back off, Harry, relax."
But just then, to Harry's great surprise, the monster suddenly bent its scaly front knees and sank in an obvious bow.
"Well done, Harry!" said Hagrid ecstatically. "Yes, you can touch him now! Pat its beak, clap!"
Harry felt that if he didn't shoot, a better gift would be lost.He walked slowly towards the monster, and reaching out to it, patted its beak several times. The monster closed its eyes lazily, as if it liked it very much.
The whole class applauded, except for Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle, who looked disappointed.
"Well, Harry," said Hagrid, "I think he might like to let you ride him."
This was beyond Harry's wishes. He was used to riding a broomstick, but he wasn't sure if riding a monster was the same as riding a broomstick.
"You climb up from here, just behind the wing joints," said Hagrid, "be careful not to pull off its feathers, it doesn't like it when you do it.."
Harry put one foot on Buckbeak's wing and climbed onto his back.Buckbeak stood up.
Harry didn't know where to grab hold; everything in front of him was covered in feathers.
"Go on!" cried Hagrid, patting the monster on the rear.
Without warning, twelve-foot wings spread out on either side of Harry; Harry caught the monster's neck in time as it flew upward. It was nothing like riding a broom, and Harry knew which one he would prefer; the monster's wings fluttered around him, bumping against his legs so uncomfortably that he felt as if he was about to fall off. It came down; the glossy feathers slid under his fingers, and he didn't dare to grab it very firmly; the monster's hips rose and fell with the wings, and Harry felt himself bumping back and forth, not as comfortable as the smooth feeling of the Nimbus 2000.
Buckbeak carried him around the paddock and back to the ground; this was what Harry had been dreading; the smooth neck dropped, and Harry leaned back, feeling that he was going to get out of it. It slid off its beak; then the monster's uneven legs hit the ground, and Harry felt a hard thud and managed to hold on to it without falling. And let yourself straighten up again.
"Well done, Harry!" cried Hagrid, to cheers from everyone except Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. "Okay, who wants to try"
Encouraged by Harry, the whole class cautiously entered the paddock.Hagrid unchained them one by one, and soon there were nervous bows all over the paddock.Several times Neville fled back from his monster, which didn't seem to want to bend its knees.
A maroon monster was signed in front of Jacqueline and Hermione. Jacqueline bowed slightly to it, and the monster quickly returned the gift. Jacqueline smiled and walked forward to stroke the beak of the monster. The monster screamed contentedly. , and rubbed his face against Jacqueline's hand from time to time. But whenever Hermione wanted to take a step forward, the monster always raised its head in dissatisfaction, causing her to back away in fright.
"You can't be afraid of it." Jacquelin stood next to the monster and smiled. "It can feel your fear. You have to be friendly."
"It's just an animal," said Hermione displeased.
"It's a life." Jacquelin closed his eyes and buried his head in the monster's feathers, "It can tell the difference."
Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle take Buckbeak. It bowed to Malfoy, who was patting its beak in disgust.
"It's easy," Malfoy drawled, loud enough for Harry to hear, "if Potter could do it, I know it must be pretty easy, and I bet you're not in danger at all. Are you ’ he said to the monster, ‘you are not dangerous, you big ugly beast.’
A wave of steel-gray claws.Malfoy let out a shriek, and Hagrid tried to slip Buckbeak back into his collar, which was still struggling to pounce on Malfoy; Malfoy curled up in a ball on the grass. There were blood spots on the robe.
"I'm dying!" Malfoy yelled, and everyone panicked. "I'm dying, look! It's killing me!"
"You're not going to die!" said Hagrid, looking extremely pale. "Who will help me, he must be carried away from here."
Hermione ran to open the door, and Hagrid lifted Malfoy easily. As they walked, Harry saw a long, deep gash in Malfoy's arm; blood was streaming onto the grass, and Hagrid led him up the slope.Run to the castle.Jacqueline looked at Buckbeak with some reluctance, and shook his head regretfully.
"Compared to my arithmetic and divination, it is much more boring, but it is slightly better than Muggle research." Jacquelin said and glanced at Malfoy, "But if it is Malfoy, he will be very happy, because the professor just predicted Harry is unknown."
