Chapter 46 Extra Story: Becoming Black
"Although I respect your decision, Sirius, if you want to live peacefully with me, I need to understand your reasons better."
Sirius looked up warily from the newspaper he was reading.Ginny raised an eyebrow at him, and he narrowed his eyes.
"You sound like Hermione," Sirius told her dryly, returning his attention to the newspaper and taking a bite of the bacon.
Ginny couldn't argue with him on that point. After their quarrel last night (and by quarrel she meant questions and answers), Ginny wrote Hermione a letter. That's exactly what Hermione told her to say.
Ginny twirled the wedding ring on her finger, a habit she had when she was nervous after Sirius put it on her finger. He looked nonchalant, as if he didn't care that she brought it up again.Although Sirius was eating bacon and reading the newspaper, Ginny knew that his mind was thinking of ways to avoid her.
"Sirius," she said again, "I just want to know the real reason."
"The real reason?" he asked, seemingly absent-mindedly. "Kim, I didn't even know you wanted kids. I didn't realize I had to think about having kids right now."
She straightened up from the counter and took the seat across from him.
"I'm not saying we have to have kids right now. But it's something I want to discuss ... it's about us, it's about our future, it's about the possibility of us branching out."
"The reason why I don't want children," Sirius said as he folded the newspaper, looking at her intently. "Because I don't think we need to live up to society's expectations of us. Or your family's expectations. Why do we have to have kids after we get married? Why can't we enjoy our time together, just the two of us? Why do I have to share you? "
Ginny snorted.
"Glib. But we didn't pander to anyone's expectations. You never pandered to anything."
"I'm Sirius Black after all," he cut her off.
He got up from his seat, kissed her forehead, and put the breakfast plate in the sink.
"We're not done yet!" Ginny yelled as Sirius walked out of the kitchen.
"I don't think we're done," she heard him reply coldly.
She got up and caught up with him.Sirius walked across the corridor, put the folded newspapers on a table, and went upstairs to the bedroom.Ginny sighed.
"Don't I have the right to know the truth?"
Sirius looked back at her as he walked towards the bedroom. He held out his arm to help her open the door and let her go in first.Their bedroom looked as though a bomb had gone off in it, with sheets and clothes all over the place. The life of the newlyweds. □□, sleeping, eating, being happy...unless Ginny decides to interrupt it all with thoughts about the future.
She sighed, and Sirius closed the bedroom door. She sat down on the big bed involuntarily, leaning against the headboard with ease.Sirius gave her a playful look, and she bit her lower lip.
"What if I don't tell you?" Sirius teased. "Will you leave me?"
Ginny rolled her eyes. They both knew Sirius didn't want kids and wouldn't end their relationship. After all this, they were able to fix the problem. But something had been bothering her since she'd asked him last night if he wanted kids. His answer was quick, thoughtless, and emotionless. The lack of affection was so unusual for Sirius, especially on such an important matter, that it aroused suspicion and curiosity in her.
As he looked out the window, Ginny began to look at him again. He frowned and his lips were pursed.
"What the hell is going on here, Sirius?" she exclaimed angrily.
His frown turned into a big smile as he looked at her, like he wasn't bothered at all.
"What are you talking about, baby?"
"I just want to know why you don't want kids—"
"You want to practice, huh? We'll talk about it later?" he said softly.
Sirius moved away from the window and lay on the bed with her, her tall body pressed against her, and she narrowed her eyes.He nuzzled her neck and she took a sharp breath.Of course he knew that was her sensitive spot.
But he won't divert her attention that easily.
"You'd be a good father," Ginny said, pushing him away. "Right? Don't you think you'd be a good father? You're good to all the kids, Sirius, and I know you can."
Sirius froze for a moment, his warm breath still lingering on her neck. Then he sat back, black hair covering his eyes.
"Sirius?"
"Damn it, Kim," he growled, getting out of bed. "I just don't want kids. I don't want them, it's not for me!"
Startled by his volume, Ginny got out of bed and came to him.
"Why? I just want to know the truth, you're lying to me, tell me the truth—"
"I want Black to be extinct! That's it! I don't want Black's blood running in any child's veins, I don't want any child to suffer this cruelty!" Sirius cried.
Although his voice was loud, he gently grabbed her shoulders.
"I'm the only one in my family who got better and I barely gave up. Don't you get it? The only reason I got better is because I did the exact opposite of what a member of the Black family should be doing. I'm lucky, I'm lucky. If I hadn't been sorted into Gryffindor...if I hadn't met James, Remus, Peter and you..."
He looked her in the eye and seemed terrified that he might never have met her or the predators, that he might go down his family's old path, as if it could still happen, and it broke her heart.Sirius shook his head and let her go.
"What if we had children and they turned out to be like my father? Or my mother? What if they went into Slytherin? I don't want children unless you can promise me that our children will be exactly like yours ...I don't want to watch my kid grow up and be afraid of what he will become. The Black family are all monsters," he said angrily. "I don't want to curse a kid to be Black all his life."
Sirius laughed harshly.
"How am I going to raise my kids? My dad never left me alone, it was just me and Regulus, my unfortunate mother and the house-elves! I don't even know what a father is supposed to do..."
Ginny sat dumbfounded on the bed.She knew something was wrong, she knew it, she pushed him, he told her now, but she had no answer. He turned to avoid her, scratching his hair with his hands, neither of them spoke.
"But... I'm a Black now, too," she said softly, remembering his words.
The wedding ring on her finger felt heavy.
"You're a Weasley," Sirius said hoarsely. "You became Black through marriage, not blood. Even then, I shouldn't have done this to you."
Before Ginny could react, she picked up a pillow and threw it at Sirius. The pillow hit the back of his head, and he snarled and turned around immediately. He bared his teeth and his eyes were bright.
"Why did you hit me?"
"Because you're stupid!" Ginny cried, standing up and beating his chest. "How dare you! How dare you say that, think that! How can you—"
She continued hitting him, but he quickly grabbed her hand.Ginny wanted to fight him, against him and his stupidity, but she let him pull her into her arms. How could he think like that? How could this be his reason?Doesn't he know how good he is?
She didn't seem to want to resist anymore, she leaned against his chest, closed her eyes, and let her breathing calm down.
"I love you, Sirius," she said, looking up into his eyes. "I love you because you're not your parents or your brother or anyone. Blake's last name isn't cursed. I've never been happier since my last name was Blake."
Ginny let go of his hand and cupped his face.
"I don't need to have kids."
"gold--"
"I would love to have a baby with you one day. But I don't have to. Any kid is lucky to have a father like you and grow up to be like you. You're loyal, brave, smart, and you love .Your love is unrestrained and deep, and I don't know how your children could be any different."
He looked at her face seriously, as if he thought she was lying. But Ginny knew, he could understand her, knew he could be sure she wasn't lying. They met each other when they were teenagers, experienced the war together, and narrowly escaped from the veil.Sirius knew herself better than Ginny. And she knew him better than anyone.
"OK?" she said softly.
Sirius nodded slowly. She pulled his face towards him and kissed him.
Sirius looked up warily from the newspaper he was reading.Ginny raised an eyebrow at him, and he narrowed his eyes.
